Ralph Thompson, b. 1773

Looking for information on a Ralph Thompson b. 1773 d. 1865- lived in Monmouth, Wall, NJ..wife name is Ann (our family thinks possibly her maiden name was Sleight and that she was born in Staten Island, NY in 1778)

We can trace the Thompsons out to this ancestor but we lose the thread at that point. My Aunt thinks that perhaps Ralph came to America in 1804, and that he was a "cartman". One other possibility is that he was from Scotland, born June 16, 1754.

I think my grandfather was born in the late 1800's.

I am now at a brick wall for my grandmother's side: Thompson. Seems there are no records whatsoever for her!
Thanx for the info. on Thomas!! Would you happen to know what his middle name was? Or what approximate year he died? I understand about having falling outs, seems that is why I am having trouble finding relatives. I guess Thomas wasn't the nicest of people and a lot of the family had falling outs with him as well. I know that Leroy also had a lot of falling outs, so some of the family members didn't even speak of each other, now most of them have passed leaving my father and I with a lot of questions about our family history!! Feel free to e-mail me at ginib587@gmail.com. I am also on facebook along with many other Burdge family that are also trying to figure out our family history!! I would love to chat with you sometime eithe via facebook or e-mail! ~Virginia Burdge

Thomas is buried here in Daytona Beach FL. I never got to meet him, he passed before I was born and my father had a falling out with him for many years. I believe they did get together in the early 1950's as I have pictures of my parents and sister visiting Daytona in the 50's.

Hi! I was so thrilled to hear from you!! I know my great grand father had 2 sisters named Flo and Nel and 1 brother named George, My grandfather's name was Leroy "Roy". I think we very well could be related!!! I know also that Leroy had 3 wives at least and 10 children between them!! Alice washis first wife, Francis Campbell was his 2nd, and then Nelly Huffman. Their children were William, David, Thomas, Dale, Alice, Francis, Beverly, Ruby, Marlene, and my grandfather Robert E. Lee Burdge (like the famous general!) I think that Leroy's father's name was Thomas, and he probably would be buried in FL. I have no idea of his wife's name. I have found a Thomas L. Burdge in a census report from 187o, he also had 9 children with a son named Thomas L. also. I'm not sure if this is the same Thomas that is my great-great grandfather or not, I'm still trying to figure that out!! I would love to hear any info that you may have!!! ~Thank you so very much for responding back! Virginia Burdge

Hi Virginia is it? You don't know how strange that is to get this....My mother's name was Virginia. My father was Richard Burdge, and he was the youngest in the family...George was the oldest..I believe they were about 20 years apart in age. I did have an Aunt Flo and Aunt Nellie so I believe we are related. I did not know any of my other uncles, only Uncle George, whose family lived in Covington KY for years! Please e-mail me if you need more info that I may be able to help with. Have a great day. Kim Cheezum (nee Burdge)

Hi! I just read your posted message on ancestry.com, I am currently researching my family also!! My grandfather was Robert E. Lee Burdge, son of Leroy Burdge. I know that Leroy had 2 sisters named Flo. and Nel and a brother named George. Leroy had at least 3 wifes, I think that their names were Alice, Francis campbell, and Nelly Huffman. Leroy apparently had 9 children between these 3 wives: William, David, Thomas, Dale, Alice, Francis, Beverly, Ruby, & Marlene. I'm not sure if this could be the same Nel. and Flo that you are speaking about, but hopefully we could help each other with this research!! I also know that all of these people were in covington KY, and Lancaster Ohio!!I look forward to hearing from you really soon!!
~Virginia Burdge

Re: Charles James Burdge

Hello Cousin,

I too am a descendent of Starrett Harvey & Sarah Catherine Burdge, but through Frank's brother George Urbin Harvey (1890--1947). There is a ton of information on Ancestry about the Harvey's and the Burdge's that has been gathered and shared over the years by various family members. I am afraid that the Burdge family can only be traced back 2 additional generations prior to Sarah Catherine before vanishing in Sommersetshire, England, however the Harvey's (origionally Harvie) can be traced back to about 1700 in Ayrshire, Scotland. Just type in Starrett Harvey or Sarah Catherine Burdge, and click on the "family trees" hints. This will provide you with several trees containing our family members, and you can go back and forth through the generations to see where we all came from, and where we have gone. My tree is "Harvey/Harvie/Burdge", and I will be glad to help you in any way I can. So will the other family members, they are all good people. By the way, a quick question that I have to ask as no one has been able to answer it yet, so I will ask the new guy. Do you know what Starrett's middle initial E. stands for? Someone has to know. Are you the guy?

Ed

It would appear that the site you referenced, has combined data for 2 individuals. Deborah DICKINSON, born January 13, 1781 in CT and died January 17, 1855 in Wayne,Steuben, NY. She was the daughter of Nathaniel Dickinson and Leah ?.
She married Jonathan Burdge July 17, 1796. He died February 13, 1855 in Wayne, Steuben, NY. The are both buried in Wells, Cemetery, Steuben County, NY.
Hope this clarified things.
Lou

Lou, Just came across on Rootsweb WCP- An Extended Family -(Jonathan Burdge) Submitter George Larson. He says Jonathan is s/o John and Ann (Smith) Burdge. I am having a problem with Deborah Dickerson. She seems to have had 2 husbands.
A. Deborah Dickerson, b 1785, md Jonathan Burdge, b 1772
Children: (1) Deborah, b 1804, md Elihu Smith Welles.
B. Deborah Dickerson, d/o Benjamin and Esther (Ogden) Dickerson, b 1785 d 1851, md Robert I Crawford (1806), b 1783 d 1860, s/o John and Sarah (Barkley) Crawford.
Children: (11) REF; Descendants of Philemon Dickerson by
Wesley Baker, 1978, 1979, 1983. Chapter 71. Mr. Baker does not show a previous marriage for Deborah.
When did Jonathan and Deborah marry? When did Jonathan die? Any information will be appreciated.

Hello ... I am new to this site and not experienced with message boards. I am very interested in where I can get hold of Irene Burdge's "Burdge Family History," as I am a descendant of John Francis Burdge. I have no information other than his name and his spouse's name (Mary Cleary). There is another Burdge family with names similar to mine, but the dates are all wrong. However, they are from the same place (PEI, Canada) and same era.

There are several historic references to Merrick Jr. acting
as guardian to orphaned children. He was a constable and also
rumored as a member of the underground railroad, sheltering
runaway slaves.(Ref.The Slipper Point Mystery- perhaps mythical)

I can prove his father Merrick Sr parents as Richard and
Zilpha. Who Zilpha and his supposed brother Hugh's parents
were is the puzzle.

Thank you for your interest.

My records show Reverend Michael's parents were Richard and
Hannah Huff. By Richard's first wife he had a son Richard
Wall Burdge who married Zilpha Pierce in 1797. She allegedly
had two sons with him-Merrick(1799/1822) and Hugh(1802-1873).

I can not find any proof of this nor who Zilpha"s parents
were. I do have Merrick's death certificate showing her as
his mother. But for Hugh I can not find anything. Can you help?
My mothers name is Ruth Lea with the last names if Lino, Parsons,Reinhart and Burdge (Maiden)DOB 12/9/1949 in Contra Costa California, possibly in Richmond or Alameda. Her mothers name was June Estella with the last names of Permenter, Burdge, and Goudette (maiden) Born in 6/11/1927 in Chinook, Montana. Also I have information that she may have had the last name Heller at one point also. June's mother name Ruth J with the last names of Charard (maiden),Goudette, and Forrester Born 2/11/1904 in Rollins, Wyoming.

As you can so I have absolutely no information on my mother's father.

The women in my family have all been married several times and the children don't seem to have relationships with their fathers. So, I have hardly any information. I do have a possible name of Joseph possibly with a middle initial of W as my mother's father.

I don't know though. Anything you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I am also looking for Burdge's in America. I think, if I can find them, I will eventually find an English connection. I really don't know ANYTHING about anyone outside of my mother's generation. My mother's father's name could have possibly been Joseph Burdge. Her mother's maiden name was June Estella Goudette.

My family has been in California since sometime between the 1930 Census when my grandmother was in Idaho and 1949 when my mother was born in California.

I am specifically looking for California connections to the Burdge name.

Family tradition states that Edith and Jeff were childhood sweethearts, but something happened and they went their way and married someone else. After both spouses died, they got together and married. Edith had said that they were distance cousins. I have not found the connection. Although I am not relate to him, I would like to know their common ancestor.

A couple of people replying here have been doing genealogy for a long time.

If someone would be so kind to give as many details as they can of the marriage bond (surety) I would love it. Or send us to web spot that tells more about this. My details are scanty.

I know my own ancestor from Monmouth cty. appears often in a list giving money for these bonds. I am guessing he put up the money for someone else, like we do a jail bond today. But the sum was huge for that time - $500 I think I remember.
I have many Benjamins in my database. Let me know the date of birth, spouse(s), children, etc. so I can see what I have for your line.

My line of Burdge's did live a while in Monmouth county, So they would be in that book.

The book can be found in a few locations. The Cincinnati library has a copy and the Mormons have put it on tape.

I have printed off a lot of it but am not sure right now what I did with it.
