Hello Peter,
my husband family comes from Bitetto, Bari. His name is Domenico he has a siste called Isabella. They immigrate to Canada in the 60. Their father Giuseppe Burdi lived in Bitetto and he has another brother in a Town close to Bitetto called Sanicandro. Giuseppe Burdi's Uncle immigrate to America after the war, but after his and hers wife dead, we did not kept in touch any more. But who knows maybe you belong to the same family. Anyway was nice to talk to you. I am not from Bitetto, I am from Tuscany, mind you I have been in Bitetto, Bari, it is a nice little town with a Church dedicated to Beato Giacomo, which they are very proud. the best to you. So as you can see you have maybe some relatives even in Toronto, Canada

My great grandmother was Graziella Burdi who lived in Bitetto, Bari , Italy. She married Gregorio Schiralli and their daughter, my grandmother Caterina, came to New York with her uncle Guiseppi Burdi and his wife Nicolette in 1913. I don't have any details about the family in Italy ,but I know Caterina had a brother and a sister who stayed in Bitetto. Is there any connection to your Burdi relatives?

I was just searching this site. My great grandfather's name was Peter Burdi. He would have been from the Bari area most likely. I try to trace several lines of my family periodically.

Well, the Austrian connection would sure explain alot. Mom always said that Grandpa looked German! lol, Platinum blnde with bright blue eyes! Im interested in all these Burdi's that are apparently Arabic! Looked on the net and surprised the heck out of myself! Our grandfather however was from Bari. He had at least one sister who lived in South America somewhere and one brother who was a boxer.

My great grandfathter, Vito Burdi, also immigrated to NY in the 1920's from a small town in Bari, Italy called Grummo Apula. Two of my great uncles lived and raised their families in Long Island NY and the Michigan area.

Though our families do not have any possible immediate relations, there is another family with the last name Burdi in areas of Bari, Italy and parts of that family are now living in Toronto, ON.

A family crest also exists for this family name, which apparently originated over 5 generations ago in or around Austria and was previously spelt "Burdy".

Thanks, I had since learned that he was from Bari. My MIl is coming down today, i'll see if she has any more info. Where in the US did your grandfather grow up/live? We're going to Italy early next year and I had hoped to have gathered more info by then but the rest of "life" got in the way of doing any more research!

thanks again.
Cathie

My grandfather's name was Peter Burdi and was born in Bari, Italy. It is not the same Peter Burdi, but I know he had a cousin that lived in Los Angeles. They contacted my sister who lives there many years ago. I'm sure they were from the same town. E-mail me if you have any further questions.

Rosemarie
