Elizabethtown — Mr. Stephen G. "Joe" Burdo, 53, of Water Street in Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born on July 27, 1948, the son of Lindsley L. and Shirley (Nelson) Burdo - Carter.
Stephen was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He loved his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Papa."
He is survived by his wife, the former Sally Valentine, of Elizabethtown; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Arin Burdo of Elizabethtown; three daughters, April Burdo of Elizabethtown, Korin Burdo of Elizabethtown and Heather Burdo of Elizabethtown; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Jim Heidl of Sandusky, Ohio, Cynthia Burdo of Plattsburgh and Venus and Gary Wood of Saranac; his mother of Saranac; five grandchildren, Katelyn, Paul, Abigail, Keturah and Gavin; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving visitors at the W.M. Marvin and Son Funeral Home in Elizabethtown on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. from St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are with the Brown Funeral Home Inc. in Plattsburgh.
