Notes

Date of birth, and date and place of death reported in brother Cornelius Burgess’s biography in “Memorial Record of the County of Cuyahoga and City of Cleveland, Ohio” (Chicago: The Lewis Publishing Company, 1894), pp. 425-426.

Birth: 1 Dec 1827, according to brother Cornelius’s bio; 1 Dec 1828, according to the Ebenezer Burgess genealogy. A cemetery record’s date of death and age of death yield 1 Dec 1828. The 1850 and 1880 censuses also indicate that the year of birth, if born in December, is 1828. Note: The last 3 of the 11 children from Nicholas’s first marriage were Mitchell O., (b. 1835), Sarah (b. 1842), and Susan (b. 1843). Given the order of names and ages, line 28 may represent Sarah. Ruth M. (Travis) Hall (widow) and Nathaniel Stark were married in March 1849. (Nathan Stark and family in Charles Rathbone Stark (The Aaron Stark family: seven generations of the descendents of Aaron Stark of Graton, Connecticut (Boston: Wright and Potter, 1927), p. 75.) Ann probably was Ruth’s child from her first marriage; enumerated in 1860 as Ann Hall.
