(Hope you see this post after so long!)
I'm looking for OH Burgoons around the 1830s-1840s. Trying to track my great-great-great grandmother Marguerite (Margaret) Burgoon b 1810 in Cambria Co PA, daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann Burgoon. Marguerite is supposed to have married a Patrick Buckley in 1833 still in PA. They moved to OH soon after, as a daughter Mary was born in 1837 in OH. It looks like Patrick Buckley must have died after that, as by 1844, still in OH, Marguerite has a son William by a Patrick O'Neil. She has a daughter Ellen O'Neil in 1846 while still in OH, then the family moved to Vigo Co IN, where daughter Ann O'Neil was born in 1849 -- and it looks like Patrick O'Neil must have died about the same time.
The 1850 IN census has Marguerite "O'Neil" living on her own with her 4 kids -- Mary Buckley, William, Ellen and Ann O'Neil -- plus two older Buckley Children, John b 1830 in PA and Mary Buckley b. 1832 PA, who may have been either her first husband's kids by an earlier marriage, or that husband's younger siblings.
What took them to Ohio? Are there other Burgoons moving to OH at that time? Any in IN? Both Marguerite's husbands were said to have been Irish immigrants -- so I've wondered what prompted them to move so far from PA, and Marguerite's kin at least, into unknown country -- unless there were Burgoons already out there.
