Karl (Charles) Burkhard b. 1876 Germany, d. 1918 New York City (don't know how he died so young)

Karl arr. NYC 1892 possibly with brother Jacob, on 'Westernland'

Phillippina arr. 1880 but I cannot find passenger list with her name, nor census before her marriage

Karl m. Philippina Amrell abt. 1900 in NYC,
children Anna, Charles, Jacob James, and John

Philippina remarried, Conrad Lamm, but I know of no more children.

My grandfather was John Jacob Burkhard who was born in Switzerland in 1855. He arrived in the US 1n 1884, settled in Green County Wisconsin and married Marie Bruni.

I cuurently have no information on where he was from in Switzerland, his parents or sibling names.

Do any of you with Burkhard surnames in your trees have a link to him that might get me started? Thanks

I am not sure there is a connection, but my mother's grandfather was from Merenschwand, Switzerland. His name was Sebastian Burkhard wife Anna, born 1838. His father was Joseph Burkhard wife Elizabeth, born 1813, their two children were Joseph and Sebastian (my great grandfather)

Just found that I'm descended of Maria Burkhard that married Urs Ritter in Kappel 1737. She was from Harkingen. The parish record were in Egerkingen. Don't know her parents names yet.

married in Manhattan, New York on 7-30-1899 to Otto von Munchhausen(b. abt 1867)

daughter Minnie/Mary Jennie Munchhausen born 1901 Manhattan
married on 6-6-1920 in Manhattan to Walter Meschke born 3-3-1896

daughter Pearl Meschke married my uncle John Poellot in 1947

In tracing my family tree, I came across, in the 1900 census, my GG-Grandmother living in Boston, with her son by a previous marriage (different from the marriage that produced my G-Grandfather Adolph GUTBERLET)

The 1900-1930 Boston Censuses combined give:

Mary F b. ca 1869/70 in Massachusetts (wife)
Sophia GUTBERLET b ca 1835 in Germany (mother)
William A b. ca 1889 MA

Lillian M b. ca 1903 MA
Carl E b. ca 1908 MA

By 1930 William (age 41) has started his own family, also in Boston:
Wife - Mary (age 37)
son - Lawrence (age 15)

the surname is spelled BURKHARD, BURKARD and BURKHARDT in the various records.

Anyone here related to these folks?
Anyone know Sophie GUTBERLET/BURKHARDT's maiden name, and town of origin in Germany?

Mrs. Dorothy R. Burkhard, 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at her home on March 29, 2003. Mrs. Burkhard is survived by six sons, Michael Burkhard and wife, Louise, Robert Burkhard and wife, Linda, Steven Burkhard, Louis Burkhard and wife, Becky, Daniel Burkhard and wife, Shelley, and Timothy Burkhard; two daughters, Susan Whalen and husband, Paul, and Theresa Montoya and husband, Christopher; one sister, Margaret Lowrey and husband, Robert; 20 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burkhard was preceded in death by her loving husband Philip Burkhard (1991) and her son, William Burkhard (1983). Mrs. Burkhard was a member of the Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. Visitation for Mrs. Burkhard will be Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at San Clemente Catholic Church, 244 Luna Ave., Los Lunas, New Mexico, with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. by Father Rick Zerwas. I am searching for information on my ggrandfather, Mathias and his brother, George Burkhard. I have quite a bit on Mathias but not on George. They came to the US in 1869 along with their sisters, Victoria and Caroline and all of their spouses. They were all born in Baden-Baden, Germany and their parents were Anthony & Barbara Hellinger BURKHARD.They all lived in Easton, PA for a few years. Mathias and his family moved to Croghan, NY. Victoria and Caroline and their families stayed in Easton, PA. George and his family moved west but we don't know where or when. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had thought that my Gr andfather, CHARLES J BURKHARD was from Colorado, but have found out that he was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1873 or 1874.

Don't know anything about his parents, if any family stayed in Nebraska etc.

My Grandfather went to the Yukon at the end of the Klondike Gold Rush, raised a family in Dawson City, Yukon, and died there in 1945.

I would appreciate any leads or info on his family in Nebraska

i am not sure where this reply goes but we might be of some help. my great great grandparents johannes and katherina windolph were Joseph (oscar) windolphs parents. We have his name down as Oscar (joseph) but he married Agnes burkhard so must be the same.

Johannes and Katherina Windolphs log cabin house is at Stuhr museum in grand island nebraska where i am located along with many relatives. They just moved the house to a different location at the museum and last summer several of us went to watch them move it and had the opportunity to see the underside of it and all of the original logs of the house. we had a great time thinking about our ancestors and what they went thru building the house and raising 9 children in such a tiny space and johannes died when the youngest was still very small which would have been joseph oscar and she raised the children by herself..

Thanks so much for your reply! Indeed Oscar WINDOLPH was married to my Grandfathers youngest sister, Agnes Catherine BURKHARD.

I have been able to gather a lot of information on the Windolph branch of the family, and a fair bit on the Burkhards.

I have very recently made contact with some Windolph/Burkhard relatives in Ill. and WI.They were able to provide me with some more info and stories about the family, including the fact of the cabin at the Stuhr museum. Stories and anecdotes are very important to me. We need names and dates to research, but, I really want to learn as much as I can about families lives.

They had a little more info on the Burkhard side.One of my main goals when starting my research was to find living relatives, so, was thrilled to find them, as I am to hear from you!

I feel as though I know Grand Island , even though I've never been to NE(yet!) My Ggparents Frank and Genevieve Burkhard spent their last years there, and I have found many Windolphs there on various census.

I will email you, wanted to post here first, as, this is what the message boards are all about.

Is any other information available about Johannes and Katherine's birthplace, dates, parents or other Windolph siblings?

I am searching for Edmond (IEdmund) Windolph who had relatives in Nebraska and in Gratiot, Wisconsin as late as 1930s. And information about my great grandmother (and her family) Margaret Elizabeth Windolph (born 25 March 1834 in Thalwenden near Uder) Eichsfeld, Thuringia. She married Balthazar Pudenz (spelled Budenz in US); they and their children emigrated to Gratiot,Wisconsin in the late 1860s.

Johannes Windolph was born in Uder, Germany circa 1838. Katherine Kellner was born in Uder, Germany December 1842.

I'm sorry to say I don't know Johannes' or Katherines' parents and/or siblings names.

I know there was another Windolph family in Grand Island, but I havn't been able to establish a connection to "my' Windolph family....yet :-)

I will do a little digging with the info you've provided here and see if I can come up with anything.

Wild, I saw a few Henry Burkhards one day while looking through Ancestry.com. There were only two in my family and neither of them married Josephine.

I am doing my family tree for Burkhard. I have some information but I lose the Burkhard line in Germany. Michael Burkhard came from Surbourg area and was born in Bobenthal Germany. From there I don't know where the name came from.

Does anyone else have Burkhards that came over in 1870 to New York City? I am wondering if there were any other sibilings of this family. The parents were Michael Burkhard and Maria Anna Schneck that came over in 1870.

I was wrong in my previous reply to you! My Gfather was in Fact Charles Frank, not Charles J, AND, your George Albert was his younger brother!!!!

Charles was actually born in Nebraska, had Colorado in my mind somehow...since that was where George eventually lived, wouldnt be surprised if my Grandfather was there at some point too.George Albert was born in Iowa, Shenandoah, I think.

I have found all of Charles and Georges siblings, there were 6 kids in the family.Also know their parents names, and, am hot on the trail of my gg gfather (your ggg gfather).

I found George with his wife and kids because I remembered your post, and, checked out Lazear Colorado in 1920.

I tried emailing you, but it bounced. I sure hope you still check this forum!

Will be very happy to share all info I have on our family.

Wow, that's really interesting. I do know that our Burkhard was spelled a couple of different ways plus there were some that married cousins which wasn't so unusual since the towns were small. They said that the church allowed second cousins to marry so to confuse things even more a couple of Burkhards married but they were spelled different. Boy has this been fun to follow!

I'll have to check into my tree again to see if this Anna Maria was in it. I know I had some Anna Maria's but don't know if we had one by this last name.

I came across these two names as the godfather and godmother of Philipiis Jacobus Raupp, born 11/16/1731 in Germany. His parents were Anna Barbara Eichelberger (b, 9/30/1726) and ? Raub, son of Jacob Raupp, b. 1726. It appeared to be names similar to what you were researching. These names come from a site I found for Sandwier, Baden Germany. http://home.t-online.dehome/KB.Kastner/sandw.htm
I was researching the Raupp/Raub/Robb line.

I have just started doing research on my fathers side of the family. I am from the Yukon Territory, Canada. My Father knew very little about his father.

My Grandfather CHARLES J BURKHARD, came to the Yukon at the end of the Gold Rush. His birthday was MAY 6, 1874.

Now the part where you may be able to help me- My Grandfather is believed to have come from Colorado, and, since it's a fairrly unusual name.....

Searching for any information about my cousin, Robert C. Burkhard. He was born in NY in July, 1946 and his last known place of residence was in the Cape Coral, Ft. Myers area of Florida in roughly 1990 (+/- a year or so.) He became estranged from the family after his son died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. We don't know if he's deliberately gone missing or if, through the years, something has happened to him. His father and his aunt, my mother, have passed away since he's been missing. His mother is 87 years old and her health is failing. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am researching my family name and can't seem to get past my great-granparents. My -great-grandfather is George Albert Burkhard. His spouse was Mary Elizabeth Smith. They where married on January 18, 1911 in Lazear, Delta, Colorodo. My granparents Where Phillip Smith Burkhard (born August 29, 1916) he was married to Dorothy R. Pfarr. My Grandfather (Phillip Smith Burkhard) died December 31, 1992 at 10:00am. The cause of death was Cerebrovascular accident. My Grandmother (Dorothy R. Pfarr) is still living. One of the sources sited by Mrs. Ranke in
