I've been looking at Burleson in relation to my Cox family.1880 census for Morgan County,Al list Jas C,24 as head of household with Elizabeth L,49 as stepmother,L Douglas,19 brother,Syl C,23,Brother ( not son). Arnold Cox 80,stepfather. Arnold was Elizabeth's father;therefore, making him step-grandfather.Usually,people are listed in descending age.But Syl is older than Douglas and should be before him. However,1870 census list head of household as John Burleson,45,Elizabeth,39 Malinda,19,Eloisa,18,James C,15,Leroy D,9,Sarah 18,Silvania,13. Why are these people in this order? The only thing I can think of is John Burleson had a brother named James and he must have died and left Syl to live with John? and perhaps Sarah was also the sister to Syl?
