John Burley emigration to Ohio

I've been trying to nail down which John moved from PA to OH in 1815. After analyzing the data I have and all the census records I've come to an impasse.

In 1800 census John Burley III in Bucks County is listed with;
Males;
1 < 10 years old
1 10-15 years old
1 45+
Females;
1 <10
4 10-15
1 45 +
This matches perfectly with the ages of John III’s children at that time.

However, at this time there is also a John Burley in Greene County with;
Males;
1 <10
1 16-25
1 26-44
Females;
3 <10
1 10-15
1 16-25
1 26-44

Clearly two different families. The Greene County John and wife are younger, being less than 45.

In 1810 they are both gone from those counties. There is a John Byrley listed in Warwick Township, Bucks County, PA in 1810. That is right next to Newtown. The ages of the children on this sheet match the ages of the 1800 children +10 years, so he could be my John III with the name misspelled. There is J Burley in Tyrone, Huntington County, PA with children of ages that could be the Greene County family but there is no way to know for sure.

1830 census of Harrison.
Males;    John
<5
To 10
To 15     1
To 20
To 30     1
To 40
To 50
To 60
To 70     1

Females;    John
<5
To 10
To 15
To 20
To 30        1
To 40
To 50
To 60
To 70        1

So in 1830 husband and wife are both in their sixties. The Bucks County Burley’s were both over 45 in 1800. That would put them over 75 in 1830. The Greene County Burley’s were under 45 (both 32 according to current thinking), so being in their sixties 30 years later is probable.

The evidence for Bucks County;
John III married Johanna Larzelere in Bucks County according to LDS IGI.
Their son John IV was born in Bucks County. (However LDS also has John Burley born 30 Sep 1799 in Greene County parents John and Hannah.)

The evidence for Greene County:
Larzalere was born in Greene County according to the book "History of Perry County".
The ages of John and wife are in line.

If the LDS info is correct the only thing linking John of OH to John of Bucks County is the marriage record. This comes from the Larzalere family. If true it should be in the church records for Newtown Presbyterian which is the source for a lot of info on the Burleys. I'm going to try and check that. Perhaps the marriage in Bucks listed on LDS is wrong (it only states the wife as "Lazlier").

I'd appreciate any input especially from the Larzalere family.

Hi,
I am researching the Edge's of Brentford. I know a woman name Georgina Lilian Edge married an Albert Edward Burley in Mar 1906 in the Brentford district of Middlesex. Her father was William Edge and his was George Burley. George Burley was a Watch maker and Albert Edward was a carpenter. I think they may have had at least two children.
1. Albert George Burley born Kensington (Dec 1906)
2. Lilian Dorothy Burley born Kensington (Jun 1908)

Do these names ring any bells to anybody?

James

Mary Burley who m. Samuel Adams, Ipswich MA

Hi All,

Hoping for some guidance here.

Mary Burley m. Samuel Adams aft 28 Sep 1706 (intention date) at Ipswich MA. Their first child was born 27 Jul 1708.

Conant genealogy gives this Mary as the daughter of Andrew Burley and Mary Conant, but with the birthdate listed for the child Martha given in the Ipswich VR - 28 apr 1696, which would make Mary only 10 years old when married and 12 at birth of first child - not reasonable. (Conant also gives the intention date of Mary and Samuel as 28 Sep 1716, which is obviously wrong given the date of their first child which is found in the Ipswich VRs).

I cannot find any other Mary Burly/Burley/Birdly/Birdley in the VRs for Ipswich although I do find most of the other kids listed for Andrew and Mary.

Does anybody have more information about this person or her ancestors?

Thanks for any help...

Lelani

I've just uploaded all the photos from an old album of my grandfather's. He was an Atkins, tho there are no Atkins photos. The people shown are from his maternal grandmother's side and include the names of Fulton, Burley, Booth and Barrowcliff. The Booth-Burley family immigrated from Yorkshire, England, to Cincinnati, then on to Zion, IL. Many of the pictures are unidentified, but if you can see anyone you can put a name to, please let me know at laurieshouse@googlemail.com.

The photos are at picasaweb.google.com/laurieshouse

Also have possible immigration info of his mother Anna Winkleman. It appears that Jospeh was named after Anna's uncle Jospeh Winkleman. Appreciate all and any info that one would like to share. Thanks, Dave [:O>

Burley in Ontario

I am related to George Burley who arrived in Canada on 13th May 1875 along with his wife, Mehala, and children Lydia (b1863), Mary (b1865), William (b1868), Richard (b1870), George (b1872) and Charles (b1874). They appear in the 1881 census at South Waterloo, Ontario.

I am looking for any information anyone may have about descendants of the above. I have a complete family tree for George, his 6 siblings and their antecedants back to 1756 which I am happy to share with anyone who is interested. The family came from Lingfield, Surrey, England and moved to Godstone, Surrey in about 1845, where all of George and Mehala's children were born.

Samuel Burley Family

I am searching for information on Samuel Burley born around 1782 and Elizabeth Hayden Burley born around 1787 from Fayette County, Penn. They were married about 1810 in Fayette County, Penn and had 8 or 9 children. They moved to Monroe County Ohio after 1824 and lived near Malaga and Woodsfield. There Children were Jacob married Margaret McCain, Simon married Hannah Sidney John, Stephen married Margaret Furgeson, Nancy married Ezra Smith, Sallie married Josias Barnes, Mary married Armstrong john, Rachel married Isaac Osborn, and Hannah married Demas Slusker. I would like to get in contact with relatives or anyone who would know where Samuel and Elizabeth Burley are buried and anyone who is a descendant of any of the peole listed above. Samuel and Elizabeth are listed in the Monroe County Ohio census for 1860 but I cannot find them after that. The Jacob Burley family moved on to Iowa in the early 1850's and that is my line. I would like to know more about the borhters and sisters of this family.

Children of John & Elizabeth "Roller" Burley

As far as I know, this John Burley (1796-1870) and Elizabeth "Roller" Burley had 7 children: Caleb Roller; Eleanor; George; William, Manuel, Alexander, Levi. This family lived in Blair Co. Pennsylvania, I believe.

I am trying to determine if Alexander Burley (b. 1837) is my ancestor. Does anyone know anything about him? Does anyone know if his line has been claimed by someone else?
We believe this is a picture of Alexander:
http://www.geocities.com/scales_family/burleyburtis/burtis.J...

I'd like to hear from any of the descendants of Alexander's siblings and get more information about this family. Thanks.
John Burley - Bucks Cty PA - 1730s

I've been reviewing the info some people have on ancestry about John Burley, settler, Upper Makefield Bucks Cty PA around 1733. There is, and has been for years, a difference of opinion on his origin. One is that he was from Sussex England, the other that he was from N. Ireland born 1710. As far as I have found over the years there is absolutely no evidence that he is the John Burley of Sussex, or that his birth year is 1710. The only real evidence I've located is that he is mentioned in two books, both of which call him an Ulster Scot.

I would love to hear from anyone who has evidence of any kind that he was from England. I believe that myth stems from a person who claimed to be a genealogist and that John was in her family line, and posted that line here. When i contacted her she claimed to have found the evidence at the Latter Day Saints in Utah. She lived in Salt Lake City so she may have been a member. In any event, she never responded to my letters requesting her evidence, and I believe people have take her claim as fact. I prefer to believe the documentation that John was an Ulster Scot; two sources!

Anyone interested or with info on John please contact me. I've been trying for years to find more evidence on his origin.
I want to thank the person that put the info regarding the Burley family on the OneWorldTree. I have been looking for this information for years. I am the g. g. g. grandaughter of David and Maria Burley. My g. grandmother was Sophie (also known as Dora) Burley (b. June 1841 Ameliasburg, Prince Edward, Ontario, Canada) who married Robert Hannah. I see Sophie had a brother William Spenser b. August 1, 1840. Does anyone have any more information about possible other siblings. I wonder of Maria (David's wife) maiden name was Spenser? Verna

Margaret McCAIN BURLEY

I am seeking the parents of my Margaret McCAIN b. 9 July 1813 in PA-d.4 Feb 1877 Clarinda, Page Co., Iowa. Margaret married Jacob Richard BURLEY b. 2 Nov 1811 in Fayette Co., Pennsylvania-d.24 Feb 1877 Clarinda, Page Co., Iowa. I believe my Jacob BURLEY'S parents Samuel BURLEY and Elizabeth HAYDEN (dau. of Rev. War soldier John HAYDEN and Charity GARD) came from Huntingdon Co., PA; therefore, there was a Wiliam McKAIN who had 5 females in the 1790 Huntingdon Co., PA Census along with a John McCAIN who was single in 1790. A John BURLEY and a Joshua BURLEY were also in the 1790 Huntingdon Co., PA Census both had 2 sons between the age of 0-16 years of age. Could these individuals be the fathers of my Margaret McCAIN and Samuel BURLEY?

Any help would be appreciated.

Burley, Robson

My paternal great gandmother was Elizabeth Burley Robson (m. Edward Robson). I believe her parents to have been William and Honour Burley (at least, all are buried in the same grave, along with others of my ancestors.)

Elizabeth died 4/25/1914 at age 82; I calculate that she was therefore born about 1832. William died in November, 1861 at age 70; I figure he was born in 1791. Honour died 5/14/1871 at age 72, placing her birthdate in 1799.

According to a biographical sketch on Edward Robson, Elizabeth's husband, all were from England (no more specific geographical location given; if anyone has more specific information re where most Burleys have originated, I'd be interested).

Please e-mail me at katlvr9999@aol.com
BURLEYs: Elizabeth, John & Edward (parents: Honour & William)

This family appears in the 1851 census of Petertavy Tavistock, Devonshire, England.

William was then 52, and Honour was 48. Elizabeth was 19, John 14 and Edward 12.

(A John BURLEY (then 54) and family, possibly related, were on the land next door. John's wife was Mary, age 46; their daughter Grace, unmarried, was 24.)

By 1854 the first BURLEY family, with the possible exception of John, were in Kenosha, WI.

James ROBSON, his wife, Alice, and son, Edward, had arrived in the US in 1840 and settled in Kenosha.

Edward ROBSON married Elizabeth BURLEY in Kenosha 19 November 1854. Their eldest daughter, Minnie Louise, was born in WI circa 1857.

James, Edward, Elizabeth (nee BURLEY), and Minnie Louise ROBSON, and William, Honour, and, apparently, Edward BURLEY traveled to CA via the isthmus, arriving in San Francisco in July 1858. The family was among the earliest settlers of San Mateo County and appear in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses.

Edward and Elizabeth ROBSON had 2 other children: Josephine and Allen Mercer.

Would love to hear from anyone who recognizes this family, in particular John and/or Edward BURLEY.

Emma V Burley, west virginia

I was in Brownstown IN the other day, and at a place called the B and R swap shop they have a civil war Diary of a Emma V Dunn, also the name Emma V Burley was listed in the front cover. it is dated Dec 28, 864. He said he might sell it for the right price. She lived in Moundsville, WV. I dont know which name was her maiden name. She had a list in the back of items she bought, and I noticed she would say where she went visiting. I dont think the owner was thrilled I wrote some of the info down, he stood there, like he wanted it right back. He said he bought the diary and a picture of her from a store that was in Mitchell, IN and they were moving or going out of business. He said he paid a good bit for it. He also had some minie balls, and some guns.
