I am trying to determine if my Ggrandmother Emma Gardiner was a Burlison,a Gardiner, Gardner or a Price.
This is a long and complicated story so please be patient.
She was born ca 1869 Yancey, Mitchell NC.
1870 census Mitchell Co. NC
Burlison, Olliver 25 m w cabinet master birthplace Yancy Co. NC
Phebe C. 23 f w keeping house
Eirza 6 f w
W@Burny 4 m w
Emma 9/12 f w (Could be my Emma?)
1910 census Emma Gardiner had living with her a woman name Viney Gardner age 79 br. ca 1831 listed as her mother.
I believe Olliver Burlison is son of Aron Burlison wife Vianna.
But that would make Vianna Emma's gmother not mother. This Vianna was br. ca. 1823.
At the same time, I find a George W. Gardner b. ca 1822 and wife LaVina
(Hughs) br. ca 1831 in Yancy and Mitchell Co NC.
They have listed a daughter
Mira Emma age 1- 1860 census
Mary age 11- 1870 census
Martha E. age 19 - 1880 census.
My Gmother Carrie Gardiner brn Feb. 27, 1888 Mitchell Co NC is daughter
of Emma.
I found 1900 census NC Union Co. Goose Creek
Price, Calvin C. and listed as granddaughter was Gardner, Carrie w f br. Aug 1889 age 11
On 1880, 1900 and 1910 census Ggmother Emma listed as a single person.
Her last name was spelled GARDINER, the George W. GARDNER and wife LaVina lived next door to her but spelled name without i.
Family wouldn't talk about her because rumor said she never married although she had 5 children, a boy named Allen died at birth or as a toddler.
She has Carrie, son Newland and daughters Lovey and Tuskey.
My mother said she lived with a Burchfield or Birchfield and the 2 youngest
girls were fathered by him but they are listed on census as Gardiners.
What do you think? Is she a Burlison, Gardiner, Gardner or Price?
Take your time. This has been a puzzle for me for a long, long time.
If you have any clues please e-mail me.
