Karen one other thing I remembered that you might run down if you haven't already done so is there was a Coach Paul Burnum who either played for, coached with, or both for Coach "Bear" Bryant in Alabama during his tenure as a coach for Alabama. Generally you can google or bing for this information. The interesting thing about him for me was that my dad's name was also Paul Burnum and they were about the same age and living only a couple of hundred miles from one another but as far as I know, my dad never knew about him. Paula Burnum is my maiden name.

I use to communicate with a Mr. Burnum in Alabama but he died several years ago. He did have a son that was interested in genealogy but I can't remember who he is. I will look around and see what I can find. If I can find the old letters the older gentleman wrote me I will make you copies. He had a connection with Joel Burnum and we suspected we had a connection through Joel and Wiley but were never able to make the connection. I will review the letters and see if it is worth making copies and sending to you but it may take me a while to get around to it.

I believe you are right about your Burnam being connected closer to the 2004 posting than my Burnam. I have the birth of my Jim Burnam born in abt 1866. His children were Mamie, Lora, Henry, John,(twins) and Ella. I have no other direction on any of the children except someone went to Alabama. My mother is the last of the Burnam family that I can find. If you know any information in this area please pass it on to me.

My Burnums are more directly connected with the other posting that was posted so long ago, however, I suspect there is a connection with most if not all of the Georgia/Ala/SC/NC Burnum families and to three Burnham men who came over in the 1600's that a Mr. Hank Burnham has researched. My earliest known and proven ancestor was Wiley T. Burnum/Burnham from the old Edgefield District SC (b. late 1700's in NC)and I believe his mother may have been a woman named Syntha, Synotha on 1810 census but I can't get that one straight or find a father....probably deceased at that time. Wiley was married to Elenor Hill (father Aaron Hill) Edgefield District on 1840 and 1850 census and also I think he was listed as a young male under this Synotha woman on the 1810 Edgefield census. He moved in 1856 to Baker County Georgia along with most of his adult children. Among them was my James Marion Burnum and his sister who married Hall family. Elenor died sometime in the 1850's and he remarried June or Jane and had one more daughter named Susan who married a Bullard in Baker County. I believe there was a Joel Burnum in connection with Wiley also who went over to Alabama. They consistently began spelling the name as BURNUM here in Georgia but most SC records have it spelled as Burnham. My James M Burnum lived first in Mitchell County and then Decatur County on the land where I now live. He is buried a qtr. mile from my house in the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetary beside his wife Sara Unity Swearengain =.

I would love to share information. My Burnam family is Jim (James)from Houston County. The heart of Georgia. I believe a brother Sandy and a Sister ( I can't think of the name as I type)were also from this area. I believe Rena (Bena) is Jim's mother.
If any of this hits it on the head with your information I would love to know more.

Karen, I saw your post to the other Burnam/Burnum in May 2010. I am of the Burnum family in Georgia and my great grandfather was James Marion Burnum and referred to by most documentation as simply J.M. Burnum which is also on his headstone. I don't know if this would be the same or not. I believe the other lady's ancestor who married a Hall was James' sister and some of the family came to Georgia around 1856 to Baker and Mitchell Counties. Did she get back with you because I have some history on the Hall family if I can find it. Let me know if you would like to compare information.

William is pictured in the yearbook of the 422nd Technical School Squadron at Amarillo Army Air Field in Amarillo, Texas. The 422nd produced mechanics and technicians to maintain the Flying Fortresses. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching family.

Liz, I don't know if you will get this six years later, but my mother is a (maiden) Burnam. There are many Burnam or Burnham's in the 1800's that were here in Georgia. There may still be one or two groups around. I hope you get this and find out more about your family and maybe you will also help me. I too am related to Jesse Burnham (Burnam) from KY who married Temperance Baker or Nall or Knall. Have you a connection to her? I know she was an orphan and married Jesse about the same year his mother died. But have never found anything to substantiate it other than his history one of his daughters wrote.

My gr-gr-gr grandfather was Jesse Burnam(Burnham). His daughter, Nancy, married Goerge Tandy Holman of Virginia. He died in 1865, she died in 1848. I have 2 different bios and one of Holman that mentions Jesse.

My ggg-grandfather is G.W. Burnham born in Tennessee. He has brothers Joshua Burnham born 1840 in TN and James H. Burnham born in 1848 (as well as other siblings). Check out Dyer county census and marriage records between 1840-1880 if you think this might be the family you are looking for or respond to this message and I can get you the info I have. It might be.My mother dad name was Thomas Jefferson Burnam her mother name was Julia(Ayler) Burnam.Dont know how her granfather was.She was born in Tx in 1922 her name was Ann W.W.(Burnam)Roper.My dad was her second marriage.She was raied i believe in Tucmcari New Mex.She had a great aunt by the of Rose that had family in Tucmcari.This is all i know for sure.She had 2-brother&3 sister that i know of 1was name Jewell that live in T.N.M 1 live in Clovis N.M and 1in Idaho.1 brother that i knew used to live in K.C.Mo but i dont know where he at now.But any help you can give me would be nice

My great-grandmother's name, I believe, was Georgia Burnaman (hang on - there's a Burnam connection), who married a George Hall.

I believe (but haven't yet proved) this is the same George & Georgia Hall in the GA census in 1870 and 1880 in Dooly and Baker Co.,respectively. I think George was b. c. 1843 in GA or SC and Georgia b. c. 1850 in GA or SC. There are no Burnamans to be found in GA, but there is a Burnum/Burnam family (Wiley) nearby, and I'm wondering if they could be related.

Does anyone have Burnum/Burnams in GA?

Alfred C Burnam married to Flossie Thomas

Looking for information on Alfred C Burnam married to Flossie Thomas they lived in Wayne County Detroit MI at least in 1914. They had a son Jessie Willard Burnam that died as a child and was buried in MI. I have pictures of Alfred and Jessie- Jessie is in his casket. Flossie owned a restraurant with her sister Pearl there. She went on to marry two more times.
Any info would be appreciated.

I'm looking for information on an Isaac Burnam (or Burnham). He was born in Camden Co.?? NC, I believe in 1799. He shows up in the census records for Trigg Co. Kentucky in the 1800's and lists NC as birth state.

Any help anyone could give me finding out about his family would be greatly appreciated!!

I checked my family records and can't find that name. One site that might help you out is http://www.kyseeker.com/ I have found a lot of Burnams in Trigg County and all through Western Kentucky.

Phyllis Jean Burnam, age 66, a resident of Albuquerque for three years passed away on Friday, February 27, 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Flossie Burnam. She is survived by one brother, Jack L Burnam of Roseville, CA; one sister, Shirley Dean Ray and her husband, Tom of Edgewood, NM; nephew, Bill F. Mary Culbert was born Nov 27, 1878 in Marshall County, Alabama. She was the daughter of James Culbert and Sara Jane Patterson Culbert. She died in July of 1961.

Mary Culbert and Frank Burnam was married Dec 22, 1899 in Marshall County, Alabama. They had at least 3 children:

William Thomas Burnam who married Sarah Thomason
Bessie M. Burnam who married Byrd E. Roberts.

I think this family are descendents of Joel Burnum (1783, NC-after 1860, AL). Joel Burnum migrated from NC to Edgefield County,SC. He was married to Sarah House. Sincerely, Hank Burnham
