Hi Cody,

My Burnett ancestors came from Carroll County VA and prior to that Bedford County VA. We can see a migration from Essex County westward towards Roanoke and then south into Carroll Co.

I would be very interested in talking/emailing with your brother-in-law about his research. We are trying to make that link from relatives in Bedford Co VA around 1750 back to Jonathan Burnett who came from Aberdeen Scotland in 1635.
Eileen Bailey has done quite a bit of research on the Burnett family in Scotland. Her books can be ordered here: http://www.burnett.uk.com/ June Baldwin Bork also has extensive research available in printed form at this address: http://www.junebaldwinbork.com/burnett/burnett.htm

Also would like to know if anyone has located the actual area where Jonathan Burnett had his 150 acre tobacco plantation in what is now Essex Co VA (sometimes referred to as Piscatation Creek but not visible on Google Maps). I know others are looking for this area too. I live just north of that area in Manassas VA and hope to visit the area soon.

Cody, I will send you a personal message with my contact info if your brother-in-law would be willing to share his findings. Perhaps I could be of some help to him as well.

Thanks,

Ron Burnette
Manassas, VA

Mr. O’Hair,

My brother-in-law has done a fantastic job of tracing the Burnett Family Tree for my sister and I. It dates back to my seventh Great Grandfather. He came from Essex, Virginia. I hope we can eventually trace it back to the other side of the “Pond.”

Thanks,

Cody Burnett
Hi Stephen,

Sorry for the late reply here, but my email address changed since the last post I made...and I got married.

We are definitely cousins! Clarence Albert Burnette Sr. was my great-grandad also; his son Clarence Jr. was my grandfather and Richard Lee B. was my dad. Our great-grandmother, Nell May Stephens (Granny Burnette) was very close to my father as she practically raised him, and she lived to be 90 years old, died when I was 12. She was a wonderful character! :)

Yes, our g-grandad was living with the Sterchi family, as both of his parents passed away when he was a child. According to Aunt Betty, who was my grandad's sister, supposedly Clarence Sr.'s dad was a Frenchman with the surname Jointier or Jointuse. There is no truth to this story according to the research I have done. Clarence Sr was born after our great-grandmother married our Burnett great-grandfather. In addition, Granny B never said anything about this Frenchman, and I really do believe that she would have told us; she was always very intent that we know our family history. Aunt Betty told me the story after my grandfather died, and I really have no clue how she got this idea into her head, God rest her soul. I don't have the information at my fingertips right now, but if you want to e-mail me, I can get that to you.

So glad to hear from a cousin!

Julia B.

Hi Shelby, when I mentioned the name Melbourne...I was talking about my father's name...not a place. Do you have reason to believe that you have connections to the Burnett family name? Do the names Melbourne..Shirley..Timothy...
Burnett have anything to do with you? This searching business is tough work eh? You didn't give me any vital bits of info....so I don't know how I can help you. Did you apply for your "Non Identifying Information" from your birth file?? This told me my mother's first name, the first names of all siblings, and a few other seemingly unimportant info. It helped to fill in some blank spots in my life...I then went to the library of the town I was born in and checked for birth announcements..found my brother's and mine's announcement...so that confirmed my last name and gave me my brother's birthday.
Well I don't know what else I can tell you from the little info you gave me. Good luck and if you have any other info you care to share..drop me a line.
Marlaine (aka Kathy Burnett)

Trying to learn what happened to Nellie Moore Green Burnett/Burnette after the death of her husband LeRoy D. Burnett/Burnette. I would also like to learn where they were married.

Nellie, the daughter of Charles and Ellen Green, was born Nov 1881 in Virginia. She was living with her family in Texas in 1900. About the year 1907 she married LeRoy D. Burnett/Burnette. They lived in Boston and then Cambridge, Massachusetts. He died on May 18, 1923.

Also interested in learning more about LeRoy. He was apparently the son of Charles and Susan Burnett. He was born about the year 1878 in New York. He was living in Boston with his mother in 1904. He appears to have written a book in 1912 Detailing of Structural Steel for Office Buildings

Hi, I am asking for your help. I have been led to believe that John Alexander Burnette married a Ruth Calidonia Parsons. Now in your message I read that her name was Lawless. It is the Parsons line that I have been researching & I would very much like to set my records straight since I very well may have been barking up the wrong tree.

POW/MIA Korean War, BURNETTE

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Spotsylvania County, Virginia as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: HENRY WALTER BURNETTE
Born: August 10, 1930, Black
Date of loss: December 1, 1950, Killed in Action (KIA)

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Burnette family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
