We all have complete Burney Family Histories. Ours are in California,but they started in Alabama and North Carolina.
I think we should all be very careful thinking that our Burney History is THE ONLY one?
They all followed a migration pattern East to West, but other than that,nothing is "for sure".Please be careful-
dont Coppy, dont guess,and dont enter information into A.Com without doing research.

I am also related to Josiah Burney. He was my 3 great granfather through Allson Burney, Elbert Elvin Lee Burney, and then Alta Burney Williams. Any information or pictures that you have would be fantastic.

Allson Burney was my 3g grandfather. He had a son by the name of Elbert Elvin Lee Burney who had a daughter Alta Liza Burney. She was my grandmother. Do you have any further information on Josiah Elzevan Burney or Allson Burney or other relatives or perhaps any pictures?

(AFRICAN AMER FAM) TRYING TO LOCATE FAMILY OF MY AUNT LAURA PAYNE BURNEY AKA AUNT PET. MARRIED TO GREENE BURNEY. LAURA LIVED IN PIKE COUNTY DURING EARLIER YEARS (1875). IT APPEARS THAT THEY RELOCATED TO FARRIORVILLE, BULLOCK, AL & POST OAK, BULLOCK, AL. RECORDS INDICATE THAT SHE HAD 15 CHILDREN, IF I AM LOOKING AT THE RIGHT RECORDS. LAURA'S PARENTS WERE SMART PAYNE & MARY JANE PAYNE.

She is AA and does Burney research and I did see where some of her people were from Alabama.
Records for slaves are sometimes hard to come up with, in Ga. alone there are more black Burneys then there are white.

Thanks for the info-I have reviewed the book but have not found it very helpful-not able to locate info about Linsey Mabry Burney-no dob, parents etc-also not much info about African American descendants-any info you can provide would be great-estate records, bill of sale for slaves etc

Do you have the Burney Book"Burneys of NC".
It is still available and is the most complete history of Burneys starting in NC and migrating elsewhere.
Almost all of us Burneys from the South are related!

No doubt we are related!
There were four original brothers out of N.C.
The names of the brothers have been brought down in the branches. Simon was one of the brothers along with John and William and Daniel.
The book is the real reference source for the Burneys, not entirely accurate but is accepted as starting point for
all Burney researchers. Pauline who wrote the book was my 1st cousin, we shared Grandfathers. She has since passed on.

Thank you for responding! I know that some of the NC Burneys went to La.where my James was born in 1812. He then went to Mississippi where Simon Foster was born. Simon came to Texas after the Civil War. Limestone, Falls, and Leon Counties are gathered together in central Texas so it's likely that we are distantly related. Simon and James are very popular names with the early Burneys. Do you have information on how I can order Pauline Burney's book? I plan to contact Frank Burney tomorrow. Thanks again!

Am I right in assuming that you don't have the book Burneys of N.C. by Pauline Burney.
I am also descended from James,but that is common given name in Burney Lineage. My James is from N.C. to Georgia to
Alabama to Limestone County, Texas. He was Judge in Limestone County in the mid 1800's.
You have a collection of Burney genealogy very close to you in San Antonio. Cecil Burney in the mid 1950's to 1960's
did extensive research on the Burney line. He has son Frank Burney, who is Lawyer in San Antonio and has his research
papers.

I am descended from Simon Foster Burney, b. 2 Oct., 1847 in Simpson County, Ms. He was a Texas Minuteman and died in service 19 Nov., 1881 in McClanahan, Falls Co., Tx. His father, James Burney is my brick wall. James was born in 1812 in La. He married Elizabeth Courtney in Simpson County, Ms. before 1838. Do you have any information on James' parents? Also, I live just outside San Antonio!

Yes,she signed my father's birth. cert. She was the midwife who delivered him. I also have someone in Bloomingdale Ga that I have to call. She is looking for info. for me. The house is still in the family and I asked her to look for some pictures also.

It seems like we are looking for the same person.Iam going by a family tree my aunt gave me.Its from the Sullivan reunion thats how I have Mariah/Sam Burney and their children names.We may know each other. I've been to Bloomingdale for family reunions. As soon as I pick up the cert. I will let you know what I find out.

Mariah Burney was my father's midwife for his birth. The Mariah im looking for was married to Sam Burney and there where about 10 children. I have the name India listed. If this is the same family I do have other names. If we are looking for the same family maybe we can exchange info.

I was also told that Mariah was Native American. I will pick up my fathers birth cert. tomorrow,that should give me more info. Is the Mariah your looking for from Bloomingdale Ga? Charlie Richard Burney was my grandfather. Born Oct. 11, 1885 in Arkansas. Married Alma Alexander Dec. 9, 1904 in Glen Rose, Texas. Married Mossie Rosetta Johnson(my grandmother) Sept. 15, 1912 in Terral, Jefferson, Oklahoma. Resided in Jolly, TX in 1920. Born to this marriage were 9 childred, Allie Mae, Lawrence V., Alman, Willie Beatrice (my mother), Charlie Richard, Mary Almer Lee, Billy Rosetta, Sarah Francis and Marston James.
I believe my great grandfather would have been James.
I would appreciate any help on this lineage.

I don't have any other info other than stories from my grandmother. I have a copy of the census record from 1930 in Chatham County, GA. My great grandfather was Albert Pierce (although the records say he is born in GA, my grandmother says the family is from North Carolina), his wife was Indiana B. (we assume this is for Burney). My grandmother, Anna, was the youngest at the time. She later took the name Indiana after my great-grandmother died. Burnice, Anna, and I think, Daisy, and my Uncle Albert, (lives in New York and who was likely born later) are still alive. Alzy (Uncle Bubba) and Burnice are twins. Burnice lives in Philadelphia (daughter's name is Bunny).

Just wonering if you still have information to share on the Burneys. I am still looking for Sam and Mariah Burney (b. abt 1865) and their children. I believe one of their daughters was Indiana Burney,my GGmother. THey may be listed in the census records as Sam and Maria Burns. Thanks for your help.

Yes, they are from Bloomingdale, GA. My grandmother says her father is Native American also. There is a story about an exile to Bloomingdale because of an interracial marriage. I'm not sure which family member she is referring to.

I was in Ireland a few years ago and went up to Sligo and tried to do some research but there were so many Bridget Moffatt's? that I gave up. Looked in The ships but didn't find anything. Yes, there were several Burney slave owners in Jasper County in 1850-1860 Slave Schedules. Also Burney owners are found in Putnam and Green Counties. As far as I know this Burney family were in GA and AL, but not sure if any migrated to OK.
You might check the World Connect Family Trees at www.rootsweb.com for any white BURNEY families born in GA and died in OK, ect.

I'll do some checking around myself too...if I come across anything I'll be sure to post back here:)

Have you found any more on your Moffatt from Sligo? All of my Moffitt came from Grange in Co, Sligo and first settled in Pickering/Oshawa/Whitby area of Ontario in the 1840's before settling in Simcoe Co, Mara township circa 1851.
