Dear Sir.

I don't have any information regarding Burnop's of England. My family arrived here in the states from England and I am curious if we are in fact related or not. Perhaps you can help me?

Hi Greg,
I just got back from Brough, Westmorland, England as I wanted to see the area that my family came from. I met up with a distant relative, June Burnop Lingard and her husband, Byron, at the parish in Brough where the Burnops were baptized, married, and buried. Unfortunately, tombstones were pretty much unreadable. June shared her family Bible from 1871 which of course did not include those who went to America.

I can share the pictures of the town, the parish, etc with anyone interested.

Tell me this is not a joke!

Anyhow* the house was sold in 1960 and grandad moved to London, where he died many years later.

I would be interested to know when the "occurances" began to occur! Do you have access to the title deeds of the house to see who lived there? How long did the family before you live there?

Grandad loved his garden, so it doesn't surprise me that he "visits " it. Can your wife and neighbours describe the man? what was he wearing...I'm really intrigued, and if I lived nearer I would over there in a shot to hear more.

Who is the inside ghost? I'm glad you are not scared of my family.

Keep me informed please
Unfortunately...thats all I really know.

We've lived here 3 years, and a few days after we moved in, we started having strange occurances going on. It comes and goes from time to time...normally later in the year. A friend of mine moved over the road and mentioned to someone she works with as to where she now lived. This person said she used to live at No.7 (my house)....and when my friend said that we lived here...her work colleague asked immediately if we had had any strange things happen here....voices in the night...things switching themselves on and off...things moving....glowing orbs...that kinda thing...and yes we had had them all.

Another friend was intrigued by all this and mentioned it to a medium he knows who came up with the name "Ernest". He then did some research into the history of my house and came up with the name Ernest Burnop as being a past resident....and thus my quest for information.

The woman who lived here before says her family always believed there were two ghosts here one in the house and one in the garden....and my wife swears blind she saw a man in our garden who disappeared and the next door neighbours told us they thought they had seen someone standing in the garden quite a few times....a person who suddenly disappeared....

Soooo....whilst it all sounds spooky....its not really. I work from home so am in the house all day long, and I have seen and heard most of the "occurances", but only a few times would I say that it has spooked me....

It was quite nice to hear from a former resident that they too had had similar expriences, so perhaps I'm not crazy after all......lol

Any idea if your Grandparents died in this house????...it would be nice to put a name to our "friends".....

Tony
I have dated back the Burnop family to Horatio Burnop Born 1828 in Nice Ireland so far. My Great Great Grandfather was Arthur William Burnop whose father was William Burnop one of his brothers was Charles Robert Burnop who married Eliza Rampling in 1874. They had 6 children, one being Ernest R Burnop who married Ruth M Banham in 1914. I would be interested in your findings as i cant find any other information regarding Ernest or his other brothers and sisters either (apart from Charles).

As near as I can tell, there are two groups of Burnops. The first is in New York and the second is in Virginia. I have a website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~swva/
This site includes the Virginia Burnops descended from Richard and Margaret Burnop. Richard and Margaret came to America from England in 1858. Some of their descendants have remained in Virginia while others have moved north to Ohio. If anyone has information to share please contact me.
