Hi April,
I am Kathie Bass and I am married to Dwight Bass who is your cousin. Dwight's mother was Myrtle Burnsed Bass, her mother was Docia. I have more info on Austin I am willing to share with you. We learned quite a bit about him by visiting where he lived and died a few years ago. I would also like to discuss everything you heard about Wimpy. April. Glad to hear from you. My name is Cher but my friend and cousin, Kathie, was really doing the research on this since her husband was a descendant of Autin through his mother, Myrtle. I forwarded your email to her and hopefully she will respond. Apparently this family was quite "wild". Seems like I remember something about one of them moving away and living under an assumed name or something like that. I do find this very interesting. Kathie also has Wimpy's real name I think. My name is April Kathleen Burnsed.My father was Benjamin Burnsed.His father was Austin Temple Burnsed and his mother was Docia Catherine Walls.Daddy had an Uncle by the name of Wimpy.And I was told that he was indeed murdered.Much of Daddy's early life as very hard.Austin was murderde I think as he was a lawless mean person and had a good many enemies.Daddy passed away a number of yrs.ago but he was a wonderful man.I hope that this info helps you in your quest.

I had not heard from you yet but wanted to let you know I found more information recently. wimpy is actually William Sternburg Burnsed and he registered for the WWI draft in Salt Lake City Utah. He also was married to a woman named Esther. They were in Oregon in 1920. I have not been able to get back on it to find out what happened to Esther.
I would still like to talk to you about this and see what else you may have heard about this. Ft White cannot provide any info so I am going to try LakeCity since he was supposedly buried by the county.

I know it's been a while since you've posted this query, but if you're still interested, I have some info on Emma Jane Burnsed Brannen. She is my husband's great grandmother. Her parents names were Edmond Burnsed and Elmira Shuman Burnsed. Emma Was born approx June 25,1872. She was married to Ira Calhoun Brannen on Dec 2,1890. I too have records that they had six children, but according to census records from 1910; it shows Emma having had 10 children born, but only 7 seven living at the time in 1910. My husband's grandfather is John Quincy Brannen; I believe he was the baby of the family. Please feel free to contact me with any questions that I may be able to help you with on the Brannen side of the family. If you haven't gotten your info already.

I am looking for any info on an Emma Burnsed that married Ira Brannen. I have little information on her except that her father was an E. C. Burnsed. I am trying to research the Brannen side of thef amily specifcally but am not getting too far. Hoping that maybe some info on the Burnsed side may help me with a little insight. I have approx. dates for her of born around 1870, died around 1920. She and Ira had six children: Jule Brannen, Harmon Brannen, William Brannen, Eva Brannen, Bernice Brannen, and Alfrey (SP) Brannen, and John Q. Brannen. AUSTIN TEMPLE BURNSED/WIMPY BURNSED

Looking for any information on the previous two. Austin married Docia. Austin had a confrontation with Docia & Wimpy. Wimpy was stabbed by Austin and later died--maybe about a week later. Austin was supposedly arrested and escaped from jail. He hid out in GA. & lived under an assumed name until Feb 1934 when he was murdered.
Wimpy was supposedly buried by the county but which county isn't known--Gilcrist or maybe Alachua Co. in Florida. Wimpy's real name isn't known to me. However, would love any info by anyone who knows anything about this family. Several have been researching this for a # of years including family members but not much is talked about. The spelling change of "Burnsed" instead of
"Burnside"appeared sometime in the mid
1800's.

Died about 1827 in Bulloch Co. Ga. He Served
in the Continental Army in Virginia and
North Carolina for six years. He joined the
Revolutionary Army and was sent to Georgia to
fight the English, Spanish and Indians and
served till the end of the war. He was given
250 acres in Richardson District, Bulloch Co.
on Black Creek. He married Delilah Sheffield.
Son William M. Burnside born about 1800.
His father, John Burnsides was born in
scotland about 1734. William died May 10,
1863 at Blictchton, Bryan Co., Ga. William
married Nancy Newman. 5 children,
Nebuchadnezer born abt 1845, Louisianna born
Jan. 13, 1849. William Alabama born 1850.
Edmund California born Feb. 2, 1853.
Mississippi born 1855. William was a farmer.

That was pretty well all I had in the message. I can trace Louisianna back to John Burnside of Scotland, but I have not went any further, yet. I don't have anything else on Louisianna or Delilah right now. I have some info on Louisanna's siblings and some of their descedants, but not much. If I can be of any help please post message. I check the board every now and then.

I believe that we have different ancestors. Cynthia is my great grandmother. She apparently spent her time in either Bullock or/and Bryan County and was married to Richard Harvey. I do believe that some of this family moved to Charlton Co and the upper region of Florida, but I do not have that information. good luck on your search. Vonnie

In reference to your Cynthia, I am being told my G-Grandfather James Buchannon Burnsed was the the son of a Cynthia Burnsed from the Charlton Co. area of Ga.. No proof of course from me but was wondering if you had any history matching for a son named James. I am also told John Burnsed(Burnside) kept two families, one in Ga. and one in Baker Co., Fl.

Jeramy Burnsed

FERNANDINA BEACH-Jeramy G. Burnsed, 17, of Fernandina Beach died
Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Lake City, Jeramy lived in Nassau County for the past 10 years, moving
from Lake Butler. He was a student at Fernandina Beach High School and was a
member of Five Points Baptist Church.

Jeramy is survived by: his mother Jodi Burnsed of Fernandina Beach; his father
Lawrence Burnsed of Macclenny; three sisters, Shelby Burnsed and Taylor
Burnsed, both of Fernandina Beach, and Sarah Burnsed of Macclenny; his
maternal grandmother Patricia Halle of Raiford and his maternal grandfather Joe
Hulbert of Jacksonville.

Funeral services for Jeramy were Nov. 1, 2003 at Five Points Baptist Church with
the Rev. Steve Dees officiating with private burial services in Hughes Cemetery in
Yulee.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jeramy's name to the Boggy Creek
Gang, 30500 Brantley Branch Rd., Eustis, FL 32736. Oxley-Heard Funeral
Directors of Fernandina Beach were in charge of arrangements.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are.
This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Burnsed.

I came across your question dated 2001. So I don't know if you have received a reply yet or not. However I will bring you up to date on Wiliam (Bill) N(elson) Burnsed.

His mother (no this wife was Suzie Futch) and he was born in Bryan county. His wife was Willie Mae ? ( Cherokee Indian) and they had 4 sons ( 2 died in infancy from Meningites) and two are still living. Bill and WillieMae divorced and she returned to Fl. where she died several years ago. Bill died in Aug 83. His oldest son Carl still resides in Bryan County and Olin (the youngest still living) is incarcerated in Lowndes
County. He is mentally incompetent and personally I believe he was indicted on charges he did not commit and was used as a scapegoat to clear up several unsolved crimes. Bill's only surviving brother Jack is still living in Astor, Fl.

I hope this clears up any questions you may have had.

Starting genealogy search on Letha Burnsed born July 14, 1929 died September 1991. Have been unsuccessful in locating birth certificates for her and/or parents. Parents were(?) Edmund and "Sippie" (Mykrel) Burnsed. "Sippie" died in 1983 and Edmund in 1967(?) They had eight children. All but one are known to be deceased. Letha may have been born in Bulloch County, Georgia. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather, Henry Martin Sutton was Emma Sutton Burnsed's brother. I am not aware of 15 children, but many may have died as infants. I have recently found some cousins in California, Emma and John's grandchildren. I would love to share information as our side of the family knows so little about the Burnseds. In fact, until recently, it was thought that Emma remarried, but she never did. So, you can see that any info would be valuable.

Jack Jr. Burnsed is my Brother although he is not actually a Jr.. & I live in Florida.My Brother has send me the information he has on the family and I was fortunate enough to have been the able to get a copy of the family photo I think you send to my Dad and would like to thank you very much for that.

Re; your inquiry about William Nelson Burnsed. Nelson was the oldest child of William and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Burnsed. He was born in 1890 (No birth date given on his grave) and was married to Susie Futch until his death in 1938. The marriage produced 4 sons, Jack, Bill, George and one other. The only remaining one is Jack who lives in Astor, Fl.

If you prehaps have any other information about Nelson's family, I would be interested. My mother and Nelson were brother and sister.

Jack's oldest son Jack Jr. lives in S.C. and has some information, and has even put in in a web site.

I also have a sister in law that has a little of the Burnsed family tree.
