Re: Frederick Burow of Minnesota

Hi,

I know so little. Frederick Burow of Houston, MN was the son of John Burrow (Burow) and Anna Melke. He had at least one sister - Charlotte Burrow (Burow) who married Heinrich Boldt.

Heinrich (Henry) Boldt died quite young, leaving Charlotte with at least 4 children - Herman, Henriette, Karl, and Reinhold.

Herman was trained as a carpenter and worked to support his mother and siblings after his father died. He was passed over at least once for the draft to enable him to continue to support the family. Finally, someone from the draft board came to Charlotte and told her that Herman would need to go to America if he was to continue to support the family as he could no longer be deferred.

Charlotte wrote to her brother Fred Burow who was living in Minnesota. He send the money back to Pomerania for Herman to come to the US. Herman came in 1868 and continued to send money back to support his family. Eventually, he brought all of his siblings to the US. The last to come was Reinhold. Presumably,he came after Charlotte's death.

I have not found the records for the family in Pomerania. I believe they may have been destroyed. The passenger list says that Herman said he was from Parlow. Reinhold told his family he was from Thyne. I recently learned that there was a town in Pomerania called Krolow. It may be that I misread the name on the passenger list. Krolow is much closer to Thyne which was in the county Schlawe. Parlow is not close to Thyne.

That pretty much exhausts my information on the Burow family.

Hazel in Eagan, MN

Frederick was a cabinet maker and received his education and business trianing in Germany. He was a Democrat and member of the German Lutheran Church. In 1868, he emigrated to America, settling near Princeton, IL. There in 1870, he married Arnstena (Arnstina) Gust, born November 26, 1846. In 1882, the family came to Missouri and settled on a farm in Mercer County. I have more info if this ties in with your info in any way. Thanx, Jackie :o)

Hello Doris,
I have your book at my side. I certainly refer to it from time to time. Was it written in the early 90's? Do you have anymore information than what is in your book? I have been searching and searching for more info on Carl and Pauline and ancestors, but haven't come up with anything. I intend to get down to Ida county and take some photos and visit the courthouse, but I probably won't learn much more. Jeannie Bottjen has pictures of some houses and tombstones,I believe. She and I are going to get together soon to share. Appreciate all your work! Linda

I found your web site while looking for Anna Krogel (kruggel) as it was spelled in Prussia. Many of the Krogels" came from Prussia in 1849. They went to Canada, Indiana, Minnesota, Chicago, and western MIchigan. My grand, grand, Grandfather's name was Friedrich August Kroggel. He was born abt.1855 and came from Rummelsburg, Germany. That part of Germany was Prussia and is actually in Poland. I do not know if any of this helps you. JR
