The Aaron Burr Family Tree

I was told that my family goes back to Aaron Burr from my great great grandmother, Vorintha Burr, daughter of Chauncey H. Burr. I'm new to this, and could only get as far as Chauncey's father Bissell, no info on him. Does this line go on back to Aaron, or is it a different line of Burrs? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi-I thought I would make corrections for the parts I know about since I am in this line: My (Lynn Christine Williams) correct date of birth is Feb 1, 1967, NOT Feb 2. My mother is Sharon Lynne (with an e on the end of Lynn) Wilson Williams born July 6, 1946 the firstborn daughter of George Wilbur Wilson b. 09-30-1919 and Lois Camille Greenleaf Wilson b. 11-27-1914. My uncle Jeff Wilson was born in May 1957, not 1954. My brother, Marc Taylor Williams is spelled with a "c" at the end of his first name, not a "k". His first wife was Nita Curren and his second wife was Irene Kennedy Kiser. He has never had children. I married Eric Floyd Burns {b. 06-15-1966} on July 30, 1994. We have two children: Riley Williams Burns born 12-21-1999 and Ryan Williams Burns born 11-21-2006.
Who is working on this line? Is that you cousin Patty?

Jeaninne,

I noticed you mentioned a Henry Burr who was born in England and died in New Jersey. I also noticed you mentioned a William Burr and Sarah Stahl (I have her as Sarah Strahl).

According th the research I have of this Line I have as children of William Burr and Sarah Stahl as:

Joseph S. Burr - b Aug 23, 1801
Jesse Burr - b 1802
Thomas Burr
Ann Burr - b 1806 m John Lipsey
Mary Burr -
Sarah Burr - b 1810 d 1865 m William Stanton
Ruth Anna Burr - b 1813 d 1861
Merrick S. Burr - b Jan 16, 1817
Milton J. Burr - b 1821

As for the ancestry of William Burr, husband of Sarah Stahl his line goes as follows:

William Burr (b Feb 13, 1779 in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, d Aug 18, 1856 in Belmont, Ohio) m Sarah Stahl Oct 28, 1800 (daughter of Caspar Strahl and unknown mother). William was the son of
William Burr (b May 4, 1740 in Burlington, Province of New Jersey d Sep 15, 1833 in Mt. Pleasant, Jefferson, Ohio) and Ann Edwards (b Feb 26, 1744 in Milford, Bucks, Pennsylvania d Oct 10, 1795 in Milford, Bucks, Pennsylvania. They were married Aug 3, 1763 in Exeter, Berks, Province of Pennsylvania. Ann was the daughter of William Edwards and Martha Foulke. William Burr was the son of
Joseph Burr (b Nov 5, 1694 in Mount Holly, Burlington, Province of West Jersey d Apr 13, 1767 in Northampton, Burlington, Province of New Jersey) and Jane Abbott (b Mar 9, 1701 in Nottingham Twp, Burlington, Province of New Jersey d Jan 3, 1780) They were married Feb 16, 1727 in Chester, Province of Pennsylvania (believe this was during the Chester Monthly Meeting as they were Quakers). Jane was the daughter of John Abbott (b 1660 in Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, England d Oct 16, 1739 presumeably in NJ as he is buried next to Ann at the Chesterfield MM Graveyard, Crosswicks, Burlington, New Jersey) and Ann Mauleverer (b Apr 26, 1678 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England d Apr 10, 1754). They were married Mar 26, 1696 in Chesterfield, Burlington, New Jersey at the Chestrefield MM). Joseph Burr was the son of
Henry Burr (b Abt. 1664 in England d Bef. Jun 11, 1743 (when his will was probated in Northhampton, Burlington, Province of New Jersey)) and Elizabeth Thredder Hudson (b Feb 28, 1669 in London, Middlesex, England d Bef. Oct 1742 in Burlington, Province of New Jersey). They were married in Newton, Queens, Province of New York. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Hudson (b Abt. 1643 in England d 1697 in Burlington, Province of New Jersey) and Mary Thredder (b Abt. 1647 d 1698). Henry Burr emigrated from England to long Island, New York in 1682

Most of the information on this line comes from Charles Burr Todd's book "A General History of the Burr Family, 4th Edition". Henry Burr's emigration date and Parentage of Elizabeth Thredder comes from "First Ladies of the Old School House/First Lady of Peachfield Elizabeth Thredder Burr and Her Descendants" provided by the Colonial Dames of America in the State of New Jersey (1979). The date of the will probate of Henry Burr was provided by williamlong26 31 Jan 2005 12:55AM on the Burr Forum on Ancestry.com.

Information about Jane Abbott's lineage comes from "The Journal and Essays of John Woolman - Rancocas Edition" by Woolman, John ; ed. by Amelia Mott Gummere and various other contributers from various sources, most notably from Leo's Genealogics Website starting with John Abbott at http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.php?personID=I00450175&....

Marriage date of William Burr to Ann Edwards comes from the Burr Forums on Ancestry.com.
Descendants of Peter Burr, 1727-1795

Peter Burr, 1727 Fairfield, CT - 1795 in what is now known as Jefferson Co, WV, was the son of Peter & Abigail (Hall) Burr of Fairfield, CT. His lineage in America began in 1630 when his great great grandfather Jehue Burre arrived from England with Winthrop's fleet to the Massachusetts Bay Colony with his wife and young son Jehu Burr. Jehue Burre helped found what is now known as Springfield, MA and Fairfield, CT. He is the father of the Fairfield branch of Burr's which also includes the Rev. Aaron Burr who helped found Princeton University, the Vice President Aaron Burr and other notable early founders of our nation.

Peter Burr migrated from Fairfield to the Virginia Colony. His home, in which he raised 13 children, was built ca 1751 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is now owned and maintained by the Jefferson County Historical Landmarks Commission and is considered to be the oldest wood frame structure in West Virginia.

Today hundreds of his descendants live all across our nation. In October 2008, many of them met for the first time and visited the old homestead. A second Burr Homecoming is tentatively being planned for October 2010.

The Peter Burr Society is seeking to find more of his descendants, to find additional historic records and to spread the word of our family's wonderful legacy. Help us to connect with our cousins. If you are a descendant, or aware of anyone who is, please email CShaw24206@aol.com

Cousins and other interested parties are welcome to join us at the Peter Burr Society, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/peterburrsociety/
Only partial information is available for viewing without membership which is free.

Surnames of Known Descendants, as of February 2009 -

Angleton, Anson, Baker, Barkley, Barr, Baugh, Baer/ Bear, Bedford, Berry, Biggs, Brown, Burkhart, Burr, Butler, Carl, Carson, Cline, Cole, Conklin, Cowan, Creamer, Cross, Duke, Embly, Ewing, Fawcett, Gambill, Garringer, Gilbert, Glenn, Gregory, Hammond, Hannil, Hardin, Harris, Hennigan, Hinman, Holden, Hollingsworth, Holman, Horney, Hughes, Hunter, Irvin, Isleen, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Kessler, Kibbey, King, Knisley, Krantz, Larrick, Lawrence, League, Ledbetter, LeFevre, Leffel, Lemen, Lewis, Lindsey, Link, Lloyd, Marshall, Mattes, McGarry, Melvin, Miars, Miley, Miller, Murrell, Osbourn, Payne, Perry, Pitt/Pitts, Powell, Probasco, Qualls, Reed/Reeds, Saum, Seeley, Sever, Sewell, Shaffer, Shaw, Siler, Slack, Small, Smith, Snyder, Stewart, Toon, Urton, Vandervoort, Walthall, Ward, West, White, Wiley, Wilkins, Williams, Wolf, Woodworth.

Thank You!

Jeaninne, The Vice President Aaron Burr, 1756-1836, had no direct descendants that survived him. He was the son of Rev. Aaron Burr, 1716-1757, who helped found the College of NJ, now known as Princeton University. Rev Aaron Burr was the son of Daniel Burr of Fairfield, CT who had a large family and there are quite a few of his descendants living today. So although it's not possible to be a direct descendant of VP Aaron Burr, it is possible to be a distant cousin and that may be your family connection. Do you have any further info for your grandmother Ruthanna Burr?
Cheryl (Burr) Shaw
CShaw24206@aol.com
No but that sounds right. I also believe he was the only son to marry if there was another one. The main point is a person named Burr could only be as close as a first cousin. The Burr tree is not very complete so you will have a rough time. The lived in the firelands region of CT. The British burned Congregational churches in that region if it was easy enough. The Burrs were probably Congregational.

Hi Pat, Thank you for your offer to help others. I am trying to find the parents of my gr.gr.grandmother Anna(Anne) Burr, born ca 1813,maybe Washington Co, Pa. She married Joshua Mercer in 1835 in Muskingham Co, Ohio. My gr.grandfather was born in Noble Co, Ohio in 1845 and Joshua, his father, is buried in the Beaver cemetery in Noble Co. Isaac C. Burr officiated at Anna's wedding and also at my gr.grandfathers wedding in 1866. I am not sure Anna and Isaac are related, but it seems they could be with the same last name. Joshua(from Chester Co, Pa) and I believe Anna's families were Quakers at one time. Don't know if you can help me or not, but thank you for offering.
Dee

I grew up in Caneadea, NY. See ? I know how to spell it. LOL. I remember a Jack Burr who ran a small general store there on the main street. I'm wondering if the Burr Cemetery is the same cemetery that is known as the Caneadea Cemetery, located on Rte 19. When you are coming down East Hill Road into town, East Hill Road ends at Route 19. Am I correct that, if you then cross Rte 19, the Burr cemetery would be there up a small steep road ? The Burrs resting there are named Cecille, Charles, Col. A.L., Fred, Grover, Isadore, Keith, Lillian, Mabel, and Miranda.
Thanks.

My great-uncles were Burr Kenyon and Gould Kenyon - back one more generation is Jefferson Burr Kenyon, Burdick Kenyon, etc. My father's middle name was Gould. I KNOW, based on these names that there were Goulds and Burrs somewhere, but since they lived in Dutchess NY about the time that they may have married, I can find no further records.
Any experienced Burr researcher knows that Aaron Burr vice president was from the Fairfield line, Theodore Burr 1771 bridge builder(my 3rd cousin 4 times removed) the son of John 1750 were from the Benjamin Burr line of Hartford and even Charles Burr Todd found no evidence of a connection during his research. There are a lot of reasons why someone tries to convince people otherwise for obvious reasons. Anyone with the proof of a connection between these two lines would have published it.
Oxford Memorial Library, Chenango Co., NY built by Theodore, where Theodore lived at one time also claims he was related but nobody provides any sources. Be sure to get the source.
Lyman Burr, Sr. was born abt 1794-probably Conn. He died in Caneadea, Allegany co., NY before 3 Dec 1831, He was my gr gr Grandfather. He was married to Laura Stanley who was born in Kensington,Conn on 24 Nov 1795. She died at Smith Corners, Wethersfield, Wyoming co, NY at the home of her son, Lyman Burr. There was no will and there are no child placement papers for her children in the county court house in Belmont. She apparently was helped by the lawyer Caldwell and is next found living in the Bliss area and she signed the census right at the same time as my other relative, Euroclydon Geary/Gerry and his wife Parlina Avery who are my gr gr gr grandparents and they are all in the next county, in the town of Eagle.
In my genealogy I have Lyman Burr, Jr.being born in Caneadea in 1822. His wife, Cassandra Gerry was also born in 1822. They are buried at Smith Corners, Wethersfield.
If any of you are doing the genealogy, most sources have Parlina Avery as married twice. This is incorrect. She had a twin sister Perlena and they have put her children and husband as belonging to Parlina. Parlina's name was originally spelled Perlina but in letters that she wrote she always spelled it Parlina. Her sister Perlena was married to Abner Duell in Pompey, NY south of Syracuse.
I started work doing genealogy in 1955 which is a great advantage because the elderly family members told me much of the family histories. I am doing all my grandmothers as well as grandfathers and have more than 14000 people in my genealogy. I am still stuck in many families. I am getting old and try to help many people with their genealogies. So write to me if you need something more on these few families.
Barbara Bernstein
I have been reading what you and others have posted about Aaron Burr. (the VP) My mother-in-law claimed to be "related" to Aaron Burr. Her maiden name was Barbara Burr, b. 1922 in Bedford MA. She died December 2007. Her family was originally from Nova Scotia. I believe her father, John Burr, moved to the Boston area. Her mother was Euphemia Belle Worrall, also from Nova Scotia. I can go back a few more generations, but I dont have it with me right now. I have some family tree information that she gave me years ago and I am going to try to connect it to what I have read here. I know I have read somewhere that VP Aaron Burr had two daughters, no sons. Do you know if that is correct?

My email address is sloanone1@hotmail.com if you would like to write back to me.

Melody Press Sloan

Re: Death of Alcinda M. (Bond) Burr ~ born Belmont, Ohio

Someone else contacted me on this "Isaac C. Burr" and I have been unable to connect this line. I can't seem to find his message, so must be somewhere on the board we have communicated. I do want to connect all the lines that do actually connect, so will be interested in what you find.

I found three death certificates just now for children of Joshua Mercer and Ann Burr: Samuel and Dora Mercer and Lucinda Davis. The Samuel Mercer one indicates his father is George, but probably in error. Birthplace for Annie listed as Ohio, of course likely in error since so many mistakes in death certificates.
