Audrey Mae Burry - Niagara Falls, NY

I'm trying to find out about my Father's mother's side of the family. His mother is Audrey Mae Burry. She was born in 1934 in Niagara Falls, NY, USA and passed away in 1966 from cancer. Her mother's name was Ruth Smith and her father was Samuel Burry from Newfoundland, Canada and who possibly suffered from some sort of disability/accident. Ruth passed away about 1984. Audrey has three siblings: Jean, Ray & Don. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Janice,
I am new to this forum and note that your posting was some years ago - but here goes anyway.
I am descended from the Burrys from Christchurch, Hampshire, England. What attracted my attention is that one of my ancestors, Charles Burry b: 1836 married a Jane Tarrant in 1863. She was also born in Christchurch, to parents James and Anne in around 1839, one of 7 children I believe.
Does this have anything to do with your name or merely a coincidence ?

Paul

Hi, I have just stumbled across your post, whilst looking for my brother's website, also Robert Burry!

I'm interested that you have traced your family back to Devices as that appears to be where my family tree stretches back to.

My Great-Grandfather, Cpt Edmund Thomas Lacey Burry, was from a farming family in Devices. He served in the Grenadier Guards 1900-1910 (approx). His father, Elijah Burry, ran the family farm in Devices. Apparently, Elijah had three wives, with the third surviving him.

I'm not sure if this helps? It's always interesting to find out about the other Burry's, as it's such a rare name. Although, there are three Craig Burry's up here in Edinburgh!

Cheers,
Craig.

Hi all, I'm looking for connections to a John BURRY who wrote a will the 25 November 1833, and his brother James BURRY who wrote his will 18 February 1842. Both of these men were listed as living in Stanpit, Christchurch, Hampshire, England. They also have two other brothers David and Thomas and two sisters Rose Burry who married a ? Black or Blackmore & and Mary Burry who married a ? Green. This may not be a complete list for this family.

Renee Burry

Alastair,
Looking again at your message I think that the son of Thomas and Harriet is a different Richard. If I look at IGI their son Richard was born in 1821 but all the census records indicate that he was born around 1806-1809. Additionally he married Elizabeth Cook in 1832 and their earliest child Sarah was born in 1834.
Regards
Paul

Alastair,
Hi, I'm new to this thread and thus delay in response. I am descended from George Cook Burry, George Fleet Burry (1858-1936), George Frederick Charles Burry (1895-1981), David Sutherland Burry (1920-1984).
To briefly answer your questions, Hugh Ambrose Burry married Mary Kathleen Kelly in Portsea 1906 I have only found one son Edward Rex Burry (1908-1927)a gifted musician who died at a young age of Acute Appendicitis whilst studying in London.
Arthur Edward Burry married Lilian Purnell in Wallington 1894 and they had Doris Elinor in 1896 and Olive May in 1898, I can't find marriages or children for these two.
Edward James Burry married Annie Carter Laidlaw in Christchurch 1897 and they had Margaret Doris in 1898.

I had only gone back as far as Richard and Elizabeth Cook and it's therefore helpful to hear of Thomas and Harriet White. Did Thomas or Richard have any siblings as I have a number of Christchurch Burry loose ends which I feel must be linked somehow (Another Charles Burry, John Burry and Elizabeth Reeks, George Burry etc).
It would be useful to compare notes as I have a fair amount of detail which I could print out and let you have, as it's too big to put on here please contact me offline at burry.paul'at'gmail.com (substitute @ for 'at').

Regards
Paul Burry

I am related to Oscar Felicien DUBUIS who immigrated to USA from Switzerland in 1869. Oscar DUBUIS graduated from the common schools and took a two years' course at the Polytechnic Institute at Winterthur, Switzerland. He first stayed for a few months in Pittsburg and in April 1870 moved to Chicago, Illinois. He worked for WLB Jenney Co on the West Chicago Parks until the great fire of Chicago, He was later the Engineer and Superintendent of the West Chicago Park system, where he remained until 1893-a term of twenty-one years. In the latter year, in common with many others, he was removed for political reasons, but soon after became Engineer of Lincoln Park, where he remained one year. In 1895 he accepted an invitation to come to Peoria, where, as Engineer and Superintendent of Parks, he has transformed wild hills and glens into beautiful parks. He stayed there until his death in 1906.
He was from Givrins, Canton Vaud, Switzerland. He was French speaking Swiss. I haven't gotten enough information on his family to know if other relatives may have moved here with him. He could have had friends from the school he attended follow him over here. His sister was married to a BUSSY who stayed in Switzerland.
Edward Henry's father was Edward too (b1850's in either Devizes or Brighton) 1881 Census says Devizes, 1891 Census says Brighton?) and he was a railway guard (or carman) and he was married to Sarah Ann Rasor (b1852 d1891) and his father was John (dob not known). Anyhelp appreciated. Rob Burry

My father was Henry John (b1920 Barking d1992 Havering), his father was Edward Henry (b1880'ish Wandwsorth d1931 Romford who was married to Caroline Blower. Rob Burry

My Priscilla Burry/Bury was born in Lancaster County, Pa. around 1832. She married Issac Weaver. She had approximately 12 children and I have all of their names. My Great Grandmother was Lydia Weaver Deavers. I would be greatly interested in any information on Priscilla Burry/Bury Weaver that anyone might have. I visited Lancaster County and was over-whelmed by all of the Weavers. I have written many letters and have found nothing on Priscilla.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My name is Paul Burrie (Groningen 17-07-1977, Groningen Netherlands) and my grandfather is trying to find the history of the name. It can be concluded from facts (church and weddingdocuments that the name burrij is changed in Burri and finally in Burrie. Records of Salomon Burri (ij) (born in Nijmegen 13-09-1777) show that the name was used as burri as well as burrij.
It is difficult to find out of what is the original place where the name came from. Salomon Burri was a treasurer in the army and died in indonesia (then a dutch colony).
He was a soldier (and a tailor) for hire so it is difficult to find a trail from that point on.

I have a ms acces document with a direct trail to Salomon Burri. If you are interested I can send it to you.

with regards

Paul Burrie
He was catholic and of Polish, Austrian, and Hungarian decent. He worked for a time at Diebold in Canton. He served in the second World War. His first, wife was my mother, Helen Skilton Burry. I look forward to hearing from anyone who may be related to me on my fathers side.

Re: Stephan Burre (landscape gardener 1838-?)

I am currently writing a book on the contribution of German Americans to the development of landscape architecture in this country. In that regard I would be interested in learning about the life and work of Stephan Burre, particularly about his education in Switzerland and his career in the United States). There were a number of other Swiss landscape gardeners in Peoria about the same time so perhaps there is a connection, notably Oscar F. Dubuis and Peter W. Hoerr.

Thanks,

Kurt Culbertson
Design Workshop
120 East Main
Aspen, CO. 81611
1(970)948-5557
kculbertson@designworkshop.com
