I realize these are old posts, but if any of you are still out there, Harrison Burss' first wife Carrie Smith was the youngest sister of my grandmother Love Smith Schultz. I have some information on her family and I've been in touch with Harrison's granddaughter (daughter of his son Bill). You can email me at Lempacre@aol.com

Burss family of IL, WI, MI and CA

My great aunt Carrie Smith was married to Harrison Burss, son of William Anderson Burss. Harrison was born in WI and married Carrie in Harvey, IL. They lived in the Chicago area in the early 1900s, then moved to MI, then moved back to Chicago. Carrie died in 1925. Harrison remarried and eventually moved to CA.

I've been in touch with Harrison and Carrie's granddaughter, but neither of us can find any information on Carrie's death. Short of buying her death certificate, is there anywhere else to find information?

If Leland lives in or near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was my father's Uncle. We always called him Lee. He passed away about a year ago - before I was interested in talking to him about the family history. Now there's no one left that I know to ask. Anything you have would be appreciated.
Regarding posting on Richmond Burss: I have an ancestor, Richmond Burss, from Thorp, Wisconsin, who ended up in Superior, WI, and then Duluth, MN. He entered a homestead near Thorp in November, 1880. I'm wondering if he is a son of the William Anderson Burss described here. Anyone have any information to offer?

Thanks so much! I would love to hear what you have on the Burss family, as I had hit something of a dead end. My father, Richard Burss Reinfeld, was Richmond's great-grandson, from his daughter Estella Rosetta (who married John Dutton in Thorp, WI). I have had little success in identifying dates, although the family story is that Richmond was much married. He died and is buried in Duluth, but I haven't had an opportunity to run down the dates yet. I have a couple of pictures of him and of the Thorp homestead. I will scan them and send them to you if you like.

His father was Harrison Vernon Burss born 7/3/1888 in Reseburg,Wisc. His father was William Anderson Burss born in Simcoe,Ontario in 8/25/1842. His father was Ephrin Burss married to Sarah Roszell. I would really like to hear from you. Also in your e-mail you mentioned you talked to a Leland Burss from Wisc. If you could get him to e-mail me also I would greatly appreciate it. My father passed away four years ago. He had one brother William who had only 2 girls. I am the only son my father had. My dad never knew he had ancestors that shared his name. We thought the line stopped with me. However now it seems I have relatives I never knew even existed. Distant but still. Would like to find out all I can about my linage. Hope to hear from you.
