CENSUS LOOKUP PLEASE

John Pemberton born 1847, living with his mother Hannah Burton (or else Hannah Pemberton, using her maiden name) and maybe also with his father (husband of Hannah) Thomas Burton. Probably living in YORKSHIRE.

In 1881 I've found him living in Long Street, in Easingwold with wife Margaret and children. But I'd like to find him in earlier censuses because I want to know about his parents (ages, occupations, whether they're living in the same house)

I'm not sure why he took his mother's surname not his father's surname (although he was born a year before the marriage, Burton is listed as his father).

Surname may be misspelt Pimberton etc.

THOMAS BURTON married Hannah Pimberton/Pemberton [on 08 MAY 1848 Saint Margaret, York, Yorkshire].

They had had a son the year before, JOHN PEMBERTON (Thomas Burton was listed as his father).

Would love to know more about these people!

I'm particularly interested in why John didn't take his father's name - especially if he was born just a year before the marriage?? (because of this my family tree has a line of Pemberton's leading to a single Burton person - this line would have been full of Burton's otherwise!)

With other illigitimate children (or if their father died) in my family tree they would take their step-fathers name when their mother married/remarried. And if they were illigitmate they'd be recorded as the child of their grandparents until the mother got married (to save the family from shame).

Does anyone have any info on James BURTON b. UNK, d. UNK; md. to Annie Elizabeth Cockrell in 1856, Huntsville, Randolph MO? Children of James and Annie Burton were:

Thomas J., Frances Annie, Quantrell (Quantrill), Ella, Ollie, Annie, Mary Love and John Austin. All children were born between the approximate years of 1857-1881. John Austin BURTON (my great grandfather) later lived in TX, then finally settled in OK.

Based on family oral history, I believe the BURTONs may have fought for the Confederate cause. There's also a story about how Union soldiers burned neighboring homes, but left the Burton home standing after my great, great grandmother, who was pregnant at the time, refused to leave.

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. I seem to have hit a DEAD-END.

Hi, Can anyone tell me who the parents and siblings of James & Margaret Goodpaster Burton are? I found this family in the Ohio County, Indiana 1850 census and in the Dearborn County, Indiana 1860 census with no James. Their youngest son, Albert Z. Burton, married & lived in Lawrence County, Indiana as did many of his siblings. I assumed, because of this, that James was descended from John Pleasant Burton. I have been thru all of the documentation of this Burton family that I can find and have not been able to locate James & Margaret. I have James' dob as 1818 in Tennessee. Margaret was born about 1820 and she was from Ohio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I have hit a dead end tracing my husbands great grandfather Henry Burton - family legend has it that his father George was killed in Ireland by smugglers in about 1860. Various documents have Henry's birth as 1856/1858/1859 in Clovelly but no birth certificate and no definite census info. Stories also say he spent about 12 years until late 1880's in Australia. The next we know of him is in 1890 when he marries Mary Selina Stead in Cardiff. If any of this sounds familiar please get in touch, he is said to have had brothers or half brothers so there might be relatives out there!! Thanks

Can anyone help me with the above names. The Burton belongs to George Henry and the Puttock his wife Ellen. They had one son in 1901 and a daughter earlier than that.
Ellens parents were Sarah (nee Owen) and Edward Jesse Puttock. Ellen was born in 1869 and George Henry was 1860. Ellen's mother, Sarah Owen was born in 1851 and Edwin in 1844. Sarah's parents were Thomas and Elinor. Sarah had two husbands 1. Edwin Puttock and 2. George Coulcher.

Catherine Burton, daughter of Robert Copes and wife of Thomas Burton, was b. 1805 in Logan Co., OH and d. 1865 in DeWitt Co., IL. She and her husband lived in Livingston Co., IL until his death 12 Aug. 1855. She then moved to DeWitt Co., where a son, Robert Burton lived. I am trying to locate the place of her death and burial.

I have found that I come from a very large Burton Family. I have many names, but not many dates. We took our name from the Burton slave owner and started with the following Burtons that were born into slavery in Kentucky: Richard, Albert, Mary, Nellie and Patsy Burton. I have most of the Albert Burton line, but need the others, especially Richard.

Richard (don't know his wife's name) had ten children. Thomas (b.late 1800s, m. Minerva Bailey), Sanford, John Allen (b. approx 1874, m. Georgia Thomas), Edward, Charlie R., Lizzie, Julia, Rosie, Nannie and Mahalia. I know Thomas' and John's line documented.

If anyone knows any information or needs more info on this line, please do not hesitate to ask or tell.

I am looking for any information on Henry Leopold Burton born ~ 1901 who died in Melbourne Victoria Australia in 1991. He had been married to a Linda Dorothy Cross from Avoca Victoria. They married on the 7th of January 1926 in Richmond Victoria Australia. On the wedding certificate it stated that Henry Leopold was born in Manly New South Wales. Henry and Dorothy had one son, named Stanley Burton. Henry's father was Henry George Burton and he was married to a "Nellie" or "Ellen" Puttock or Pittock. Does anyone have any information please.

Mary Burton and John Hickman

Have found the mother of Elizabeth Hickman listed in World Family Trees as Mary Burton. And her mother is a Martha unknown. Am looking for any information to base a search on. Have a DNA kit of a aunt , my fathers sister. So far the furtherest that I can paper trace this line is to Elizabeth Hickman that married Robert Hawkins. Some trees say that Elizabeth's parents were John Hickman and Mary Burton and that Mary was the dau of Richard Burton and Martha unknown.

Does anyone have a Burton relative in their family tree by the name of Mr. G. H. Burton who in 1920 lived on Tinwell Road, Stamford, England? The reason I ask is that I am researching Margaret Hulley nee Burton, my maternal grandmother's family history and I recently found a Passenger Declaration form which I believe to be my grandmother's - I recognize the signature. She listed her father as Mr. G. H. Burton of Tinwell Road, Stamford, England and her sister as Mrs. Palmer (Janet Elizabeth) of Suite 21, Corinne Apartments, Agnes Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I am looking for information about Delmer Lee Burton. The man I am looking for was a very tall and largly built man. He served in WWII and was injured. I injured or lost the tip of a finger and was receiving a small pension for this. My mother had a business card he gave her that stated "Burton and Sons Paint Co" but I do not know if this was his families business or not. Although I have never met this man I am his daughter. I was born in Sacramento, California at Sutter Hospital in Feb of 1960. And although I would love to know everything about him, what I would love most is to know what he looked like. Robert Burton was a World War II veteran and a member of the Elks. His wife was everything to him!

According to census records, Jane as born in TN or Al about 1814. They must have married around 1833/34 as the first child was born in TN. He was born January 17, 1929 in Garfield, Utah to William and Hannah Evelyn Burton Inkley. He married Carol Wilde Thomas May 6, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Walter served in the US Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War. He retired from Kennecott Utah Copper after 36 years. He loved sports of any kind but his first love was baseball. He is survived by his sons, Keven (LuAnn) and Bart Inkley; sister, Bernice Fullmer; brothers, Bill (Barbara) and Heber (Kathy) Inkley; grandsons, Tyler (Jill) and Bryant Inkley. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; sister, Betty; sons, Cory and Ellis; and daughter, Elva Jean. A much loved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grammie passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at her home in Veradale, Wash., with her loving family at her side.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert Lyle, at the home; their two daughters Wendi Burton (and spouse Jim) Bernard of Seattle and Penny Burton (and spouse Adam) Hencz of Spokane; grandchildren Ethan Burton and Aidan Robert Bernard of Seattle and Elliot Ann and Sheldon Robert Hencz of Spokane; sister Debbie Dart of Cashmere, Wash.; brothers Ron Sanders of Cashmere, Wash., and Larry Sanders of Yakima, Wash.; also by her mother, Ruth Sanders of Cashmere, Wash.; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Her father, William Sanders, precedes her in death. Celebration of Life Memorial Service, Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 N. Division, Spokane, Wash., 99207, with Pastor Tony Dart officiating.

She had 9 sisters and one brother (Laurence, who died at 2 days), she was born at Ford's Farm Horsey. Her parents were John Henry Burton (b.1870 d.1965) and Kate Ellen Daniels (b.9/10/1869 d.11/02/1956).

Robert Burton, Rockingham Co., NC

I am researching Robert Burton of Rockingham Co., NC. He was a Rev. War veteran and pensioner. In his pension application, S.6609, he stated that he was born Oct. 18, 1764 in Amelia Co., VA, and moved with his family to Campbell Co., VA, when he was about 9. He enlisted in the militia in Campbell Co. and after the war moved to Rockingham Co., NC. He was still alive in the 1850 census.

His known children included William E. Burton, Robert Jr., Mathew, Martha, and Green. His wife in the 1850 census was Mary. I suspect he was married at least once before. I have marriages and children for William E. and Green.

I am interested in Robert's family that moved from Amelia to Campbell Co., VA. I know that many of the Burtons in Campbell/Bedford Co. were the family of Harrison, author of the "Burton Chronicles of Colonial Virginia." I have not been able to figure out where Robert fits in if, in fact, he does.

Southard/Southworth 8 Apr 1891 in Essex Co Va. M. F. was the dau of Garnett Southard/Southworth & Levenia A. Rouse. Any help appreciated.
