I hope this is a connect for you two. I dont have an ambrose on my list not to say.. but whos to say..

i did a search for blacks in dutch west indies thats how i found her post post.

I am a descendant of black dutch with the surname Busby. i family members left the caribbean as early as 1840's . I believe two went to New York, others i can not account for. I have records of busby in the caribbean as far back as 1780's. slavery ended in 1840's in st.Eustatis. I believe alot of the Busby left to go to US for "freedom" One came to bermuda my Great -g-g-g-grandfather Algernon Sydney Busby.

other Busbys' in my family inthe 1800's
Peter Alexander
Ann Busby
Valentine
Henry Albert
Benjanin Harper
charles
Prudence
Lucas

hope to hear from you both.

sassylady662002@yahoo.com

With interest I read your post automatically sent to me through Ancestry.com. You mentioned in your post about your Busby line the name Ambers. My great Grandfather's name was Louis Ambers Busby and his father was John Ambers Busby. A lot of things in your post seem familiar to me, especially the part about Black Dutch heritage. John Ambers Busby's father was a John Busby and for me he is my brick wall. My Busby lineage ends in Arkansas, but comes also from Missouri and Kentucky before that. I also believe that some of my Busby's may have also come from Texas, but I can't make a connection.

I have my GGF's death cert. and he died in St Louis, MO in May 1936 so there is no Social Security record. He was born in June 1863 supposedly in Kentucky according to his death cert. His wife's name was Jannie Hamilton from Florida. JAB's parents are listed on his death cert., but his mother's first name is illegible and her maiden name is unknown. The Ambers name is intriguing, unique and I have found it no where else except your post.

If you think we have a connection, please write back to me at my private email address: reconair@comcast.net. We must talk.

Thanks,
Louis Scott Busby
I really do not know why Clinton called himself Black Dutch. We only know he was dark with gray eyes. His father is Ambers Busby. We do have theories on this Black Dutch descent. One was that Clint was German or had German in his line and after the Hitler war he refused to be called German. The other is that he is Black Foot Indian and some sort of white nationality mix. Indian's still had trouble in the South including getting land, so being dark was a problem. He called himself Black Dutch. Many of the Indian's hid behind this nationality claim so that they would be considered white. We do know he and his wife Lucy had pretty much their own language and my mother and sisters stayed there pretty much most of the time while their father worked. No one could understand what they were saying because they picked up this very strong accent. We still use some of the words today: Guthy or Guthie for cat. If this word is a clue or a link to any one nationality it would be helpful. My mother can't seem to remember any more off hand until it just comes natural to use. I strongly feel they had some sort of Indian background. They were hunters and traders and preferred to live in the woods-not very social. From this line we were all told we have from this Busby line: Black Foot Indian, Mohawk or Choctow (which is a form of small Indians connected to Cherokee) and some sort of hillbilly-possibly German or Scottish. My mother spoke of some of the Scottish foods her grandma Lucy would make. Lucy was a Campbell which we still don't know a whole lot about this line either. My mom just said they were definately different. We don't know Ambers full name, but he is my brick wall and I would do anything to find out more about him.
Thank you for your inquiry and it really sheds light on more possibilites to Clinton's unusual nationality claim. In fact it is the only thing anyone knows about him.
Kimberly

Hello Paula,

I am still working on my Willis line. Most of the children of James Levi Pink Willis were born in Arkansas. I don't have a location for the area in Arkansas though. This line was also from Louisville, Clay Co., Illinois and frequently went back and forth there. They finally did settle in Dunklin Co., Missouri though. Most of the boys go by a simple name like Bill, Jim, Emmett so I do not have their full names. I will keep your Charles on my list "to find".
Thanks,
Kimberly

Elisha Busby first appears in the 1800 SC census, along with Ferriby, Frederick. 1810 he appears with Frederick, in SC.
1820 SC Census: Elisha appears with Frederick, William Reese, and Hampton (Lexington Co, SC)

1830 Ga Census: William Reese is in Bibb Co, near the Crawford County, Ga border. Elisha and Frederick are in Crawford County.
Reese is noted in Benjamin Busby's will in SC 1815, along with Benjamin Jr, and Miles. Does this indicate that Frederick and Elisha are the cousins to William Reese, Miles and Benjamin Jr? Does any one have any ideas on these Busbys? Willing to share information.

Alexander Busby, s/o James Busby and Jean Lilly; b abt 1903, Scotland

Hi,I am new to searching my family tree, I have hit several road blocks so I am trying various ways of obataining info. I am searching for info on a Alexander Busby born sometime around 1903 in Scotland. His parents were James & Jean Lilly Busby. He had a sister Isabelle (also born in Scotland) and a sister Ellen. Records indicate that around 1920 they lived with William & Mary McBride Lilly (mother's parents in Cokeburgh, Pennsylvania. On these records his mother is listed as a widow. My grandfather Aelxander Lilly would be his uncle. I am assuming that they all came over together, records indicate that they immigrated to the U.S. in 1907. My grandfather came to this country in 1907 on board the ship Furnessia, which sailed from Glasgow on July 2, 1907. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. I do know that my grandmother wrote to relatives in the Bellshill area of Scotland. But I was ver y very young and do not know the names of the people she wrote to. I do not know if Jean Busby returned to Scotland . I know there were siblings living in the Bellshill area. They were Annie, Janet, Thomas & William. There was a Jane listed too but I am now thinking Jane could be Jean. 5 other siblings lived in the U.S. They were Adam, Alexander (my grandfather), Frank(Francis),Robert & Molly. Molly was married to a gentlemanby the name of White. I believe his first name to be Jordie(not sure of the spelling). I don't know if she married in Scotland or the U.S. Robert Lilly was married to a lady by the name of Elizabeth, but I do not have a maiden name. They had a son Hugh who I believe was born in Scotland. He just passed away earlier this year. He was close to 100 or a little more. Any and all info on the Lilly side would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Cathleen

Re: Busbys in Dunklin Co, Missouri UPDATE

I am finally retaining the right information from family. We have been trying to put together notes from a very long time ago between the Busby and Willis Line.

New Information:
From the 1910 Census Dunklin Co., Missouri and many of the people that have contacted me with bits of information:

Ambers Buzzy Head 37 M W IL IL IL (BUSBY)
Rosetta wife 33 F W KY KY KY
Clint son 15 M W MO IL KY
Bessie dau 11 F W MO IL KY
Willie (Bill) son 6 M W MO IL KY
Martin son 2 M W MO IL KY

I was contacted with information about a Martin Van Buran Busby. His son or grandson was saying he brothers Clint and Bill that he had wanted to reconsile with. Bill and Clint are both passed on. I did not have any information on a Martin Van Buran. He told me that the Van Buran came from a little village in Carter Co., Missouri where he was born and his mothered loved it and gave him that name. He also said that there was a sister but that he could not remember her name. I know now it was Bessie.

Rosetta is listed as having 5 children and only 4 living. Ambers is a general farmer and Clint is working the land. Clint or the other siblings have not attended school.

I found an Ambus Busby in 1892 who married an Annie Campbell in Dunklin County, Missouri. I do not know if this is Rosetta or another marriage he had before. Going by the time frame it would of been a pretty quick marriage. No surname still for Rosetta since I was told her name was Rosetta Isabella. Could be wrong, since before I was told Ambers or Ambrose and Rosetta were siblings to Lucy Willis and James and Mary were the parents of Lucy. Incorrect! James and Mary are the parents of Lucy Willis and her brothers (which I did not have information on until recently someone in my family found the correct notes) and sisters.

1930 Census Dunklin Co, Missouri-Independence Twp.

Clint Busby 37 1892 MO MO MO head
Lucy Busby 23 1906 OK IL IL wife
Ora Busby 13 1916 MO MO OK dau
Gertrude 11 1918 MO MO OK dau
Velat (Violet) 5 1924 MO MO OK dau
Mildred 3 1926 MO MO OK dau

There are 3 more children not yet born and/or Lucy could of been pregnant with Margaret who married a Mr. Wallace, Maxine (my grandmother still living) and Glen Ray (still living).
In 1930, Clint claimed that both his parents were born in Missouri and not IL and KY. He may not of known where. Also I was sent a note saying that someone remembers marrying an Unknown Edwards. This could prove why Lucy is so young and if she was the mother of Oria Lee and Gertrude she would of been only 10 year old when she had her and 12 when she had Gertrude and Velat/Violet could of been her first child with Clint.

Oria Lee Busby was born 6/18/1915 d. 6/1/1976 married Frank Biggs also spelled Beggs of Dunklin Co., Missouri also in Independence Twp. They moved to California.

Martin Van Buren Busby, Clints youngest brother moved to Califronia -Fresno because of some problems they were having in the family and farming was supposed to be better. My grandma Maxine moved to California after leaving my grandfather Paul Dearing.

Margaret I believe moved to St. Louis, Missouri and is still living from what I understand.

I do have more on the Willis family, but since this is the Busby board I will leave it to this.

Thanks so much everyone for all the help and the bits and pieces of information, otherwise I may have just ignored alot of information that was starring me right in the face for the last 3 years.

Yours in genealogy,
Kimberly Barranti

Joseph Busby is my great great grandfather. I didn't realise that he and Elizabeth had that many children! Their son Charles Thomas (my gt grandfather) is listed as aged 14 in the 1881 census. In later life Charles Thomas owned a tobacconist's shop in London's East End before moving out to Essex to become a publican.

Rosemary Busby/Busbee, b May 1924 or 1921 was adopted around 3-5 y/o

Hi, i am trying to find out my grandmothers family . The only thing iknow so far is that her name was rosemary busby or busbee , she had talked about finding brothers implying that she had at least 2 . she was adopted out around the age 3-5. i dont know if the brothers were older or younger and i dont know if they were adopted out .from what we understand the parents could no longer afford to take care of her, so i would assume the boys got adopted out as well. i know she was raised around the stanberry, moberly missouri area. we believe my adopted ggrandparents knew the family . my ggrandparents were the smiths. he worked for the wabash railroad and my ggrandmother was a magazine model or coke a cola model or both.isnt anyone out there missing a girl busby, busbee? i have no luck with anything i try to find about her heritage. i think she may have been maybe part indian or something giving her a olive colored skin.anyone having any info it would be greatly appreciated .lvbttyboop@yahoo.com

Melissa Busby Morgan is also a gg-grandmother of mine. I am wondering where information about the McRay maiden name came from?

In the 1850 census for Madison County, Alabama, there is a Richard Busby married to Elizabeth, with a daughter M.E. under a year old. There is also a Margaret either 7 or 9. And a Madison County marriage index, now online, has a Richard Busby marrying a Elizabeth McRay.
