A few years have gone by since your posting, I just happened upon it today. After researching the Bushey/Boucher line of my family for the past ten years I know what I believe. Boucher is the proper French spelling of the name, all the Church records I have found both in Canada and in Michigan spell the name that way. All the State records in Canada and Michigan spell the name phonically. The Anglo ear heard Bushey and my ancestors were lucky if they could read or write let alone spell the way of the English speaking world. Knowing what a stubborn frenchman my grandfather was, I don't believe he would have changed it, he just didn't know any better. In my research I print both Bushey/Boucher, accepting the one spelling (Bushey) and honoring the other
(Boucher). From one Bushey/Boucher family to another, good luck in your research. Sally Terrill-Jordan.
