Myself, having the devil's own time finding and fixing the ethnicity and origin of this clan. From what I gather, they were Protestant or Hougenot French who fled France in the 1600's for Holland -- where some became von Bosch or Bosche -- and then to the Western Hemisphere. There, in Quebec, or Canada generally, they were often Boucher, and in New England, Bushee or Buchee or Boushette.
The name derives fromn Boucher, meaning stake, or Buche, meaning log. Woodsmen for generations, they ranged the then French-governed province of Nouvelle France, in all the areas drained by the Missouri, the Mississippi and the Ohio river systems and their tributaries, as coursiers des bois, trappers and traders. They often intermarried with indian women from any number of tribes throughout the territories.
I'm trying to get past my frandfather, Marion Francis Bush, who died in Longview, TX in 1918. How he got there, and who his parents were is the mystery. However, there was a Bush, male, from New England, asociated with the railroad that came through after the outbreak of the Civil War. And there are two towns: one, Bushville, TX.
Any hunches and/or connections would be appreciated.
