Cyrus Bushnell 1878-1943 mar. Mary Anna Olson 1885-1977

Cyrus was the descendant of a Harlow Bushnell and Martha Bradford. I am working on letters and photos which concern Martha Bradford, daughter of Joseph Bradford born 1771 Haddam, CT. Would love to be in contact with descendants of this line.

Be aware there are two Harlow Bushnell's with similiar info. The correct Harlow Bushnell for this family is the son of Stephen Bushnell born 1779. Harlow is shown with a birthdate of 21 Sep 1804. His birthplace is listed as Connecticut on his 1850 census but the source below shows him born in Durham, NY. Both sources place him in Lisbon, Kendall, Illinois, where he is residing with Bradford in laws. Martha is not found with her husband and children in 1850 and by 1860 Harlow is not found with his children. His children are being raised by relatives.

Harlow and Martha had the following children Emma Bushnell 1835, George Washington Bushnell 1840-1916, James M Bushnell 1842-1916 and Nancy M. Bushnell 1843. There is more about these children.

One source for Harlow Bushnell and Martha Bradford:

Ancestry.com. Bushnell family genealogy : ancestry and posterity of Francis Bushnell, 1580-1646, of Horsham, England and Guilford, Connecticu [database on-line]. Provo, UT: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2005.
Original data: Bushnell, George Eleazer,. Bushnell family genealogy : ancestry and posterity of Francis Bushnell, 1580-1646, of Horsham, England and Guilford, Connecticut, including genealogical notes of other Bushnell families, whose connections with this branch of the family tree have not been determined. Santa Monica, Calif.: unknown, 1949 pages 73 and 46.

Hi...my name is Russell Bushnell and I am interested in having copies of your headstone photographs. When my family went to the cemetery to bury my dad, Joseph D. on your list, I brought a couple of disposable cameras and took photos myself but, unfortunately, they didn't come out. If you're interested Jae Austin Elmer Bushnell and Leona Mae Bushnell (Wright)were my grandparents. If you can...please send your photos to my email: bophead2003@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Anyone have information on the John, son of Francis and Ferris Quenell Bushnell.

I'm particularly interested in the maiden name of his wife Jane.

I show this John as a barber surgeon who died in Boston about 1668. He married Jane about 1650 and with her had:

Dorothy b 19 Dec 1651 Boston
Sarah b 24 Mar 1655 Boston died before 1685
Elizabeth b Aug 1657 and died 17 Feb 1762
John b 19 Jan 1659 at Boston;arried about 1686 Sarah Lovering and 1699 at Boston. Participated in Colonial Wars. Apprentice as a cordwainer by the city of Boston. Administered his father's estate on reaching maturity.
Jane born 18 Dec 1662 at Boston married Richard English
William bon 28 June 1666 at Boston died Saybrook 1685

I believe there was another son John who died as a child.

The Boston probate of John Bushnell said his widow returned to her family in Saybrook, Conn on his death. But their name is not shown. She shows in 1670 having married John Hills and in 1671 having a son Samuel. Who was she?

I believe my dad was an only child, the son of Goldie (Corning) Scrivner. Dad said his father, (my grandfather), died, (kicked by a horse), when Dad was just 9 years old, so somewhere around 1915.

These ladies, Virginia, Doris and Beverly would be my half-sisters. My father, Mickey was married to their mother, RENA VanDeusen, in the 1930's or 40's, before he married my mother, Kathleene Gloekler. That's all I know about my father's previous family life.

If you are related to any of these ladies, please feel free to contact me.

Patricia (Bushnell) Zeigler
I was thrilled to receive your post. I am studying all the missionaries of this era, and am in Gabon at the moment. I'm working on a Phd in missions, and am researching missionaries of this era. I previously served 8 years as a missionary in Gabon. I'm very interested in Dr. St. John's journal. He was one of the one's I hadn't gotten information on, other than he died in the US and his wife remarried. Please contact me at marycloutier@yahoo.fr. Thanks for posting!

I believe my great grandfather was named after the Bushnells. His name was Maurice Bushnell Gillespie. His grandfather Dr. Morris St. John was a missionary their with the Bushnells. I have received his diaries which were kept at the time. There was a typed copy of a letter from an A. Bushnells and an L.A. Bushnell sending their regrets of Dr. St Johns death. I will let you know if their are mentions of your family.

Hi Suzanne,

My brother and I submitted DNA. He is a true BUSHNELL Y-DNA, if you would like to compare. Although my tree needs a great deal of work, this is our lineage:
Richard,Richard, William, William, John, Nicholas, Francis, Francis (9th great grandfather to Connecticut), William, Samuel, Josiah, Daniel, Truman, William, Wellington, Charles, Walter, James (my father), Dwain David (my brother). He also has a son Jeremy. We obviously hope the Bushnell male line will be continued at some time.

John Bushnell married Alice ? His sister ? in 1523

Please help. I'm trying to determine if John Bushnell, born 1492 in Tilehurst, Berkshire, England, married his sister, Alice Bushnell, born 1500 in Tilehurst, Berkshire, England. John and Alice are the son and daughter of William Bushnell Born 1466 and unknown mother's name born 1468. The marriage appears to be in 1523. I've noticed a few different spellings of John Bushnell's name and wonder if that is how they might get away with this, if this is true. I keep going in circles and cannot come up with another maiden name for Alice

Yes, John and William are brothers. I think John was born around 1806 and William around 1804. Do you have any information about John, where he was born, or anything about his parents?

Looking for information on Amos Bushnell b. 1832 had 2 sisters - Harriet and Lana. Not sure if there more siblings.

Amos married Matilda DeCaire, she was born 1840/1839.

I have been told they came into the USA via Canada but very well could have originated from Europe.

Anyone with information on earlier family would be great.

Leonard Chester Bushnell

According to George Eleazer Bushnell's book and all I can find on the Internet, Leonard Bushnell married Mary Osborn in 1839. However, two children are listed as being born prior to that date. One of them, Leonard Chester, was supposedly born on May 17, 1837. I would think there may have been a marriage that we have not been made aware of between Leonard's 1st, Sabra Edwards, and his 2nd, Mary Osborn. Does anyone have more information on this family or any ideas on what when wrong here?
Thanks, Judy Drake

I've found them going to NY on the "Caroline" from London & arriving 29 Dec 1866. He puts himself down as a gentleman & Elizabeth's his wife. He's aged 48 which is correct but her age is given as 22 which I suppose could be correct since she was full age, therefore 21 when she married him the year before. They are travelling with a couple named Joseph [gentleman] & Rachel Merry & their 5 children. Wondered if Rachel was Augustus' sister?? However their ages must be incorrect as their oldest child is 13 & they are both aged 28!!! Anyway I'm progressing thanks to you. Roz.

I looked him up in the US & found him, I think ??? on the 1880 US census as August Bushnell, white male aged 60, which would be about the right age, both parents were Eng & he was b in Eng, with a dau named Julietta aged 11, which would fit if he'd married Julia McC. She was b in Illinois but there's no mother with them, & I can't find a death for a Julia or an Elizabeth for that matter, & it doesn't give his marital status. He keeps a stand & the dau attends the stand, so no bank job anymore??!! If this is him you won't find him on the 1871 census because he should have emigrated by then if Julietta is 11 in 1880. Any comments? Thanks again, Roz
