Re: Bushyhead changed to Busby, Creek Indian

You are right, there are several Bushyheads that were Cherokee. It would make it much easier if my husbands family came from Cherokee history, but they come from Creek history. There is only one Bushyhead on the Creek rolls (Cleveland). Bigger problem is that our Bushyhead changed his name to Zachariah Busby, and we don't have the original first name to compare to rolls and indian annuities. Thanks for the information anyway. You are definately on the right track. You might also check Roots Web and see what they have on Native American names.
Barb

A few days ago I was searching for an Effie McBroom on the Dawes Rolls, and was eventually lead to Flora J. Harris from around Long View, Texas. I think Effie (IDA G.) is the niece of Flora, who is the grandaughter of a Nancy Bushyhead (Cherokee Indian) of Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma.

We have the one of our ancestors originally had the name Bushyhead and changed it to Busby in the early 1800's. He was a Creek indian. I found a Cleveland Bushyhead in the Dawes Rolls, but our "Zachariah Busby" would have been long gone.
Any thoughts?
