Busse & Riehl Families - Pittsburgh, PA

I am researching the Riehl & Kinneavy family line in Pennsylvania. On Ancestry.com's OneWorldTree, I found a family tree (no contributor listed) which includes Laura Amalia Busse, daughter of Henry Fred Busse (died about 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA) and Anna/Amalia Schuetz (died about 1948). Other children of Henry Fred Busse and Amalia Schuetz are: Helen Pauline, Laura Amalia, Anna Marie and Henry Carl.

No dates are given for their daughter, Laura, but from census records it appears that she was born about 1915. Laura is listed as having married J. Oliver Riehl, who was born about 1895 and died October 7, 1945 (location unknown). Laura and J. Oliver Riehl are shown as having one daughter, Virginia Lyn Riehl.

J. Oliver Riehl was born in Pittsburgh, PA and is the son of John Leonard Riehl and Julia Kinneavy Riehl. I am tracing this particular line, and have no information on J. Oliver Riehl after his listing in the 1910 census in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA. He was a jazz pianist and composer, and lived for a time in the Chicago, IL area.

If you have any information on Laura Amalia Busse & J. Oliver Riehl and their descendants, please contact me. I'm glad to share whatever information I have. Thanks!

Re: Busse & Riehl Families - Pittsburgh, PA - J. Oliver Riehl

In regard to the above information, I recently located an obituary notice for J. Oliver Riehl. The article DOES NOT specifically say that he died in Pittsburgh. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, OH.

I am still trying to determine if he ever married Laura Amalia Busse and/or if they had a daughter named Virginia. He was the son of John Riehl and Julia Kinneavy Riehl.

From the Pittsburgh Press, October 10, 1945:

"J. OLIVER RIEHL, who helped lay the foundation for today's network radio entertainment, is dead. "Ollie" was one of KDKA's first pianists, broadcasting from a "studio" in the Post Building, where originated the November 2, 1920 Harding-Cox returns, the first KDKA broadcast. He helped build the Fellows Club and did much to set a standard for good music on the air. For two years, he was pianiat-accompanist for Jim Hughes on WJAS.

In World War I, he was Elsie Janes' pianist overseas. When NBC chose Chicago as its center of operations -- before the days of Radio City -- he was the first production manager, building network programs. There, his local associates say, "he worked to make radio what it is today." Later, Ollie managed stations in the South, after which he was active in show-radio business in Washington, DC. He headed a radio exhibit at the New York World's Fair. A heart attack ended his career. He was a member of Local 60, Pittsburgh Musical Society."

We must be related then, and I finally have a connection to Germany? I would be so happy. I have them as being from Einbeckhausen I think it is, and I have a picture of their old house and the Lutheran church that they went to in Germany. They were Johann Friedrich Busse and his wife Johanna Busse. They bought a farm northwest of Chicago, and they were very successful. Their son Heinrich (Henry) was the first one to come out and check the farmland out, and he wrote back to the family that it all looked very good to him. Their oldest son was Christian. Please email me at davesusanv@gmail.com, and I can show you pictures of their church and house, etc. I pray there is a connection, I'm excited about this. Are there also Freise and Kirchhoff families nearby? We sometimes wonder if they all knew each other back in Germany. Also, the Henjes family.

Busse born in Hannover 1963

I am looking for a potential half-brother in Hannover,Germany. I was given this information after my father's death. I have copy of a birth certificate for Stephan Busse born 22 December 1963 of a Karin-Augusta Erika Busse who was Lutheran. In a written letter from her she state's that this is his baby. She may have remarried and changed her name. Stephan may have also taken on a adopted name change. I am hoping someone in the family or friend may recognize this. When my father retired from goverment service we knew he would travel to Italy, but for some reason he insisted he was going to Germany first. I really believe that he had every intention to find out about this missing son. Please contact me here or look me up on Facebook. I have completed a Y-DNA test if anyone needs the results.

My family all originated in Gostynin Warszawa Poland. My grandfather was Alexander one of 9 known children born to August Busse and Henrietta Goetz between the years of 1856-1879. Alexander was born in 1870 and I believe 3 others may have been born/died between 1862 and 1870 (gap in the every 2 yr cycle!) August Busse (1836)was one of 11 born to Martin Busse (1795) and Anna Kristine Riemer/Martin and Beata Luise Lausch (2 marriages). Martin (1795) and Erdmann (1815) are the only known children born to Johann Busse and Elisabeth Engel. I am sure there are others given the spread. My branch did not come over until 1913, but I am sure earlier generations were here in the states already as my grandfather first settled in Kansas City in 1893 and later visited family in WI/IL. In 1897 he went back and married in Poland in 1899, still making 2 trips back and forth with the family. My Dad was born over there in their last stint (1912) The Busses originated in Rogozowek Russian Poland in the earliest generations. Here they settled in Scranton PA area. Ancestry and SGGEE have been big helps. My info is all from docs in the old country.
Re: Looking for Info on Wilhemina "Minnie" Busse

Looks like this thread has been alive for quite a while. I think that there may be some confusion due to the fact that there looks like there may have been two Minnie Busses in this area.

My Minnie Busse was born in 1894 in Indiana and lived in the Fort Wayne area. Her father was Fredrick Bussie b 1865 in IN, d 1897 in IN and married in 1877 Louisa Rodenbeck b 1866 d 1916. Fredrick and Louisa had two other children Christina b 1890 d 1974 and Martin b 1896 d 1901.

Louisa remarried after Fredrick died to August Bruick/Brueck and had Marvin b 1906, Albert b 1910.

Fredrick's parents were Heinrich Busse b 1821 in Germany, d 1904 in IN, m in 1846 to Christina b 1825 d 1908 in IN. They had besides Fredrick, Mary M b 1850 d 1886, Augusta b 1858, Sophia b 1858.

If anyone has connections to this line Id love to talk.

Lew

I have just learned that Heinrich & Christina Busse donated some land to the Lutheran Church in Allen County, IN and also had a small one room school house for some time there as well.

They had children Mary b 1850, Fredrick b 1865, Augusta b 1858 and Sophia b 1858. At least the ones I am aware.

Would love to hear from other family members. Also would love to see pictures if anyone has any of this church, school, home, people, etc.

thank,

Lew

Actually, I was wrong about FJ's wife's name--it was Dorothy (went by Dora). I think Amelia might have been Dora's mother.

And the general contracting business F.J. established is still in operation and family owned. Not surprisingly, it's named "F.J. Busse Company."

I'm one of Robert's grandchildren (daughter of his son John Busse).

FJ's son Robert (Bob Busse) did indeed live on Warriors, and FJ's house was on Greentree Road. But you have the name of his wife wrong. He married Amelia Ramsey.

I don't know what happened to Charles Busse. The story I was told about Ruth was that my grandfather brought home some disease contracted at school and Ruth got sick and died from it.

My grandfather died in 2001. (Oh--and my father's middle name is Clark--named after his uncle).
Robert

Elizabeth Blanke Busse born in Prussia abt. 1823

I'm looking for info on the family of my g'g'g'grandmother, Elizabeth (Blanke)Busse. She was born in Germany (Prussia)abt 1823, married Frederick Busse b. 1822. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1853. Settled in northern Illinois, then moved to Green County Wisconcin, later to Hardin County Iowa, and finally Henry County, Missouri. Their children include Frederick, Elizabeth (Louiza or Lucy), Fredericka, Henry, Sarah, Mary, Lewis, and Daniel. Another daughter Sophia Blanke, either remained in Germany or returned there later. I am trying to find info about Elizabeth's Blanke family in Germany or how it is that their daughter, Sophia ended up with the surname of Blanke. Let me know if you can help!
-Tim
Gottlieb and Otilia "Lillie" Busse; He immigrated 1883, she, 1888. I have no information where they were married, or if a second marriage, etc. The dates are from the census records.

1895 Graham, Benton Cp, MN:
Gottlieb 52 Russia/Prussia (Very hard to read)
Otilia 52 Germany ?
Edmund 23
Otilia 15
Louis 9

Edmund 1st and 2nd naturalization papers are for Benton County. The indeax on Ancestry does not provide details; dates on either set.

According to the 1905 MN census, they resided in that state for 18 years, or 1887, and in the Enumeration Dist for 14 years, or 1891.

Edmund married widow Louisa Julia Meisner Gaumnitz, abt 1898. Their children, Herman E., Louise E., Sada M., Lydia Margaret "Liddie or Peggy", Edward P. and Esther.

Louisa's first husband was Oskar Gaumnitz, his parents, William and Henrietta Gaumnitz. Their children, William, Paul, Walter, Lena and Selma.

Louisa's father is William Meisner 1820.

This is where I'm having difficulties:

Lydia Busse was born 12 Sep 1905 in Graham, Benton Co, MN She died, 20 Feb 1985 Rohnert Park, Sonoma Co, CA.

By 1923, she supposedly married a Clarence Dehnert, having at least 3 children, James Rogers 1923 and Calvin 1925 in Rice, MN, then Orville E. "Denny" abt 1928 in Sioux City, IA.

I found 1 Clarence H. Dehnert from Kossuth County, IA. In 1920 he was enlisted in US Army Balloon School, Fort Omaha, NE.

1930, Los Angeles, CA
Lydia Dehnert 24 married at 17, MN Germ Germ

Unless Clarence was still in the service, he is no where to be found..... Nor the children they had.

What happened to Clarence? Does he have another name?

Where were the boys in 1930? I know who each married, and most children.

My primary person is James Rogers Dehnert, married Anita Hulda Rolof. Their first grandson, is my son. He is now expecting his first. I have done many lineages for other people, so it's time I complete his. Any help would be most appreciated. I have considerable information on the USA part, but in need of guidance of where to find German, Polish, etc information.

If you have any information, please don't hesitate to contact me. Zip a note on this board, and I'll contact you with my email. Most willing to share what I have.

Have a great day!

Amorita

I thank you all for your help. Truthfully I had forgotten that I had placed this inquiry. I am still looking for the information. I am taking what you have given me and discussing it with my aunt, my mother, and my grandmother to see if we can confirm it. I will let you know what I find out.
Again thank you.
sorry, I don't have your Busse in any of my records. All I know is that my line is from Prussia. I don't know any towns, marriage, death, birth, etc. Hope to find out more! Good luck. Maybe your Busse is related to mine. I'll keep a lookout for it as I search.

Sorry for butting in this thread, but I thought someone may be able to help me with a dead end... My paternal grandmother's parents are Paul Dau and Margaret Schilke. Paul's parents are Henry Dau and Louis Busse (born around 1853 in Germany). Does anyone have some more information regarding Louis Busse?

Thank you

I have seen Fredrick Busse often on census for Des Moines county. I've thought that maybe he and William were brothers. I have seen lots of Busse around there. if you look at the list of people that filed intent for naturalization, Fred and William are both on there about same time. They seem to be linked.
