Hello Sarah
My dear brother Michael has done all the research but doesn't always keep us up to date as we live a long way from each other. I am in Hong Kong teaching at a university and just found this site - I would love to know and talk to other relatives as we have so few. I work in the Department of Counselling and Psycholgy at Hong Kong Shue Yan University and am an Assistant Professor. Please tell me about yourself. Michael always promises to send me his research on the family - am still waiting
Ann

Hi! I am a descendant of Sarah and Thomas Munyan. Sarah, also known as Sally, is found with her family in the 1850 census under the name of Mangam (It's really Munyan--my 3rd gr grandfather was Washington Munyan, identified as her son). I also concluded that Thomas died before the 1850 census. According to the Scioto county marriage records and the 1860 federal census from Scioto county, Sarah married William Mclaughlin. Her son, Zachariah Munyan, is listed in Willliam's home. I never found her again.

Elsey (Sarah's daughter)married Valentine Bussey, She named her first son Thomas after her father; her first daughter was named after Sarah, her mother and her third son after William, who I believe was her brother.

Susannah and Melinda are living in the home of William Munyan in the 1860 census as "domestics"--probably helping William with his small children, as his wife had just died. Susannah named one of her daughter's, Lorena, probably after William's first wife.

Those were my conclusions. I would like to know more about William Sr. (Thomas' fathehr). Do you know anything about William (born abt 1825) or Jeremiah (born about 1829). Jeremiah is Sarah's son, but William is just an assumption, given that he turns up at the 2nd marriage of Sarah Munyan, and two of her daughter's. There is also an un-named son of Thomas on the 1840 census who would fall within the same age category as William--born about 1825.

My family records also state that William is Thomas' father. I also believe that Jacob was his brother. He and his family are on the same 1850 census page as Sally and her family.

I would really like to know if you get any further information regarding this family. Thank you.
My grandson, T.Bussey, is a descendent on this Bussey line, which I have followed from Eva Haldiman marrying a Bussey, through Valentine Littlejohn and Busseys moving to Scioto, Ohio. I have the earlier line of Swiss ancestors also, but am stumped abou the Peter Bussey from Massachussetts who was in New York regiment during the American Revolution, being granted land in Ohio in ?reward by Virginia government, and then his later descendent ?? marrying into the Haldiman family. Also can't find records of his life in Mass. before the Revolution---census, family, etc.
Thank you for any help. Incidentally, There are now three generations of one of Ohio, Virginia, and West Va Busseys back in Massachussstts for about 38 years. LD

Sandy, I'm not sure how Hezekiah and John and Peter Bussey all fit together, but it does seem that they should. You said Hezekiah was born in 1789; I found a Hezekiah Bussey in the 1800 Albemarle County, VA tax list along with some Haldermans, but your Hezekiah would not be old enough to be head of household in 1800. I believe this Hezekiah figures into my Bussey line somehow because Peter Bussey married Eva Halterman. Other info I have found is that John Bussey and Hezekiah Bussey were listed in the Upper District of Hampshire County, WV; that John Bussey was listed in the 1801 Upper District of Hampshire County (1 male over 21; 2 males under 16); in 1803 John Bussey, Sr. and John Bussey, Jr. were both listed in that census (also, John Jr. is over 21, and he has 2 males under 16 in his household which indicates that the John Bussey of 1801 is John Bussey, Jr.). John Bussey is in the 1805 Upper District of Hampshire County, 1 male over 21, and in 1813 and 1814 Hezekiah Bussey appears, but not John Jr. or Sr. I also found that Hezekiah Bussey's wife was named Rachel using on-line historical records. In 1830, the John Bussey who married Susannah Fletcher on December 19, 1800 in Fauquier County, VA was listed in the Fayette County, Indiana census. I also have a note that a John Bussey married Mary Ashby on December 20, 1829 in Fayette County, Indiana. Given that Annie Bussey married Benjamin Ashby, according to your research, this indicates that this John is Annie's brother and they were in Fayette County, Indiana in the late 1820s and into the 1830s.
Other info on a John Bussey that I have found: On October 27, 1792, John Rush and wife sold to John Bussey 242 acres on New Creek in Hampshire County, West Virginia. On March 1, 1794 John and his wife Eleanor sold 20 acres on New Creek to Loudon Roberts of HCo and on that same date, they sold 112 acres on New Creek to Andrew Smalley of the same county. On July 26, 1797, John Bussey of Hampshire County sold 112 1/2 acres to Abraham Moore of Maryland. I hope some of this information helps you in your research. Ladonna Viertel

Billy, Susannah Munyan appears to be the daughter of Thomas Munyan and Sarah (Sallie) Patton. They married in Scioto County, Ohio March 12, 1835 (Marriage Return A:200). Thomas died about 1849 and Sarah died about 1860. The Munyans are a hard lot to trace because of the unusual spelling of the name. It is actually a French name and was originally LeMunion, which of course can appear several different ways as well. Anyway, your Thomas Munyan's sister, Elsy or Elly Munyan, married my Michael Lauderback in 1813. In Elly's marriage return, it was noted that she was the daughter of William Munyan, Sr. In the 1830 Scioto County census, there are only three Munions: Thomas Munyan (20-30 yrs) and William Sr., and William Jr. William Sr. was 60-70 years old at the time and William Jr. was 30-40. I have also listed Jacob Munyan as a brother to Elly, Thomas and William Jr., though I have no proof of that. In fact, Jacob may have been the son of Amaziah Munyan since he named a son Amaziah. If your grandfather was named William Foster Bussey, I can tell you where his middle name came from. It was from the Littlejohn line. As you know, John Bussey married Margaret Littlejohn. Her parents were Valentine and Mary "Polly" Foster, who was the daughter of Job Foster and Nancy Ann Stanton Craycraft. I wish I could help you with more info on your William F. Bussey, but if I helped you in any way with the Munyans, then I guess that was a start! Ladonna Viertel

I am searching for John Bussey who was born in the 1760's and had 4 children: Hezekiah b 1789, John,Mary, and Annie. I have run across Peter a lot and wonder if they are related. John was killed in the war of 1812 and Hezekiah came to Wisconsin and settled here. Annie married Benjamin Ashby and Mary Ellen married John Black.
I believe that Lynn was working on Vol. III at the time of her death several years ago. As I recall, he son then picked it up to finish and offered it for sale. I also believe there was some question as to the authenticity of the data. I looked at an earlier volume but did not buy it but I've become a strict stickler for documentation.

Hugh W. Busey

My research has shown that I am also a descendent of Peter and Eva. My lineage is through Peter's son John and his wife Margaret. They had a number of children one of which was William Bussey born in Scioto Ohio 1841. I'm trying to piece together what happened next and here's what I think. William married Susannah Munyan soon after she gave birth to her daughter Lorena (1861). I am assuming that he was the father. William enlisted for duty in the Union Army about that same time and is shown as dying in October of 1862 - Civil War casualty? My g grandfather is William Foster Bussey born in Scioto Ohio sometime in 1863. I believe he was the son of William and Susannah which meant she was likely pregnant with him when William died. The only proof (?) I have on any of this, is records showing that Susannah later married (1865) Benjamin Peden in Jackson County Ohio and they both showed up later in Missouri with two children - Lorena Bussey and William F Bussey (1870 US Census). If any of this makes sense to you or if you have additional information I would live to hear back.

I am also researching my grandfather's family who is from SC and I do know that a significant amount of the family had branched out to the DC area. The only name in DC I know of is Betty Bussey, one of my grandfather's sisters but I have no contact info. I believe there were 12 or so siblings. One may have died in a lumber yard accident?? Some of the siblings were William, Thomas, A. B., Rich, Florence, Amelia, C? among others.

My grandfather is J. D. Bussey, Jr., born in Aiken, SC in 1914 and died in Queens, NY in 2000 and who married Elbertia Williams, also from Aiken. He is the son of Vinie (pronounced Vine-ee) Collier and Jefferson Davis Bussey, Sr. who may be from either SC or GA.

Hello. My name is Grady Bussey. I have been longing for any information regarding my family tree as well. I am able to go back as far as my great-great grand father. His name was Jim (james)Bussey. My family is from Edgefield, SC. He was born in 1848. He married a woman named lucy and had two children. Henry and Mary. You can see my tree online. Please take a look and let me know if there is anyone on there that may be apart of your family.

I don't have too much information but, if I'm correct, my grandfather was a Bussey. Clarence. I believe he was born in Edgefield July 24, 1924 and died March 23, 2001. I'm not sure of his mother's name but I'm sure his father was also Clarence Bussey. Hopefully I can get some more info.
I know he has a few brothers, but I believe most have passed away.
