Garret BUSTER of Monticello and Danville KY and Xenia OH

Have read many posts where people are using "Brighter Sun" written by Garret's grandson as fact, and are looking for WARING, BENSON and HODSON in Wayne and Boyle Counties, KY. The names they SHOULD be looking for are BUSTER and CECIL. Gen. Joshua BUSTER emancipated Garret BUSTER in 1845 in Monticello, Wayne Co. In 1853 in Monticello, Garret purchased his wife and two children from James Granville CECIL (whose wife was General Buster's daughter, Sarah). In 1862, Garret emancipated his family in Boyle Co, KY. The only question now is, who were "Jim" and "Sarah," Garret's parents. Greene B BUSTER, author of "Brighter Sun" changed all the names of whites in his historical novel, and the dates and places are sometimes quite a ways off. But "Brighter Sun" is still a marvelous book -- the truth is even a better read.

Will share info with anyone interested in this line -- not mine, but I'm interested in it.

Do you have a current email address for her?

Thanks!

Julie Buster Fudala Loprieno

Hello Jack!

Do you remember me? I am the person, Buster descendant, that you spoke with all those years ago about the possible offspring of one Buster and slave Jenny! I have been looking into this research even more seriously in the past few years, and I am having a heck of a time with my fact checking. I know that we got the Buster surname SOMEHOW, and we have a family book that was written by the g-g-grandson of Jim (Jim would be my g-g-g-g grandfather), a slave, whom was apparently told by the master (upon the masters death bed) and he (Jim) was also his son and that is why he had protected him and kept him as a house servant for all those years. I am in the midst of fact checking the book, and the wall I am now up against is finding slave lists of the Busters in KY to see if I can find the names of my ancestors. Another fly in the ointment is that the Buster slaves were also apparently owned by the Waring family ... SO, was my Jim ancestor only a Buster by his mothers name (Jenny Buster), and was he a decendant of Waring , OR was he a descendant of Colonel Buster? I am thinking outloud here, and jsut throwing this stuff out here. Do you have any suggestions as to where or who I could approach to start finding lists of the slaves that the Buster family held in KY? I know that the Busters also came into KY from Va, and if I remember right, Jim was separated from his mother, and she was left in Va, and he was moved to Monticello KY when the family moved there. Please feel free to pass my name on to those who are interested, because this is a very neat puzzle to piece together, and I think we all can work together to try to figure this out! I will try to stay in touch more than once ever 12 years! I do not get messages from this site, as I am not on here much. Please, if you choose to respond, please contact me directly at weaver.miner@gmail.com!

Hi JoAnn, I'm so glad I found someone that's related. My dad is John (Jack) O'Dillon Buster & his dad was Joseph O'Dillon Buster, son of Thomas E. Jr. & Kathryn E. Buster (No maiden name) & their other children were Margaret, C. James, Thomas, Anna A., Patrick, John & Sarah & Eugene. My gr-gr-grandfather was Thomas Buster & wife, Ellen.
They arrived on the Algeria, through NY from Queensland, Ireland. They settled in Jim Thorpe, PA, known back then as Hauto/Mauch Chunk, PA. Then moved to Allentown, PA around 1910-1920. That's all I found out. My grandfather, Joseph, only had 2 children, my dad & 1 sister, Jean, then he divorced & ran to Reno, Nevada where he died. I think my dad only saw his dad 1 or 2 times as an adult. My grandmother then married into the Devers family & had 5 more children & not a one of them will ever speak about Joseph. I am going to go to Jim Thorpe one day & look up the local records there. My dad always said that his grandfather was one of the Molly McGuires. I'll have to let you know how that turns out.

Well, I'll stop here for now, but if you'd like to contact me directly my e-mail address is JCSARIES@MSN.COM, just write something in the Subject space so I know it's you. I'd like to hear about your branch of the family sometime. Have a nice day. Joanne

Hello Joanne. Would like to correspond further with you on the Buster/Bustard name. There are several of us who do Buster research together. My gr. grandmother was a Buster. We do all research of the Busters; but, more specifically the Missouri Busters who came from Kentucky, via Virginia. We heard there was a branch who went to Pennsyvlania. Please tell us more about them. How far back can you go in your tree? Nice to meet you. Jo Anne Frazier Lohse

My husband decends from William Buster [Bustard] who came from Pa to Albemarle Co., Va. C: 1743
I have not been able to prove this but I found a record that said William and John Buster came with Hugh Lawson on the "George and Ann" in 1724 to Chester Co. Our line connects to the Lawson which is another of my husbands lines on that side.
Our lines ended up in Tennessee

Hi Jack, I'm curious if you're related to any Buster's in Pennsylvania. My fathers name was John (Jack) O'Dillon Buster, his father: Josehp O'Dillon Buster & 2 prior grandfathers were Thomas from Ireland. They settled in Hauto/Mauch Chunk, PA, now known as Jim Thorpe. I'm having a very hard time finding out the maiden names of their wives or any good info under the name "Buster". Is Bustard how the name should be spelled? Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated & if we are related, I'd love to share my info with you, too.
Thanks, Joanne Tracy

Hi ! I saw your posting on Rootsweb;
Searching for descendants of the following BUSTER children (parents of these children were John Buster and Rebecca Brown):

Leana
Samantha E.
James T.
Jonathan M. (Twin to James)
Ulysses S. ( I believe to have died as an infant)
Ida M. "Babe"
Charles D.
Chandler Brown "Shed"
------------------------
I see the name Chandler, which is my surname. I have been searching for a connection of my father Joe Buster Chandler b. 1899 Spokane, WA. I see a Joseph Buster in the 1900 census living there next to a John Chandler. Do you know of any Chandler connections to the Buster's that lived in Washington State ?

My great-grandmother Mary Margaret 'Maggie'Walls' parents were James A. WALLS and Martha Jane BUSTER---They were married on 12 December 1848. They were in the 1850 Census of Pulaskia Co, Kentucy with their first born, my great-grand mother Mary Walls, age 1---Some where along the line the moved to Missouri and James A. Walls died in 1856 (?) maybe in Miller County, MO. In the 1860 Census Martha J. Walls is listed as head of household with children: Lucinda, Rebecca J., Eliza A.,age 5, and Samuel C. age 8 months. She supposely later had a daughter "Joan Vaughn Walls", b. 1 June 1861--I cannot find this family in 1870 census. But found my great-grandmother Mary Margaret Walls b. 22 Sept 1849 in KY, living with a Henderson Miller and wife in Bates County, Missouri. My cousin and I have recently begun to try to find graves in Miller County, Missouri, but perhaps they have no stone as it sounds like they were not wealthy. But the way I understand it, Martha Jane Buster Married James A. Walls in 1848 and maybe much later (after 1854-1861) married a Mr. Vaughh or not????

Hello again, Blusey. Found the 1860 census from Fayette Co., VA listing James Robert Buster, 41, Alvira, 32, and seven of their children. Let me know if you can't find this census. Jo Anne Frazier Lohse

Hi Blusey, According to Jack Buster, James Robert Buster was born February 11, 1815. His father, Thomas Sumpter Buster, died about 1819. James Robert Buster was married to Alvira Dempsey. Census takers sometimes make mistakes. Jo Anne

Well Kay I am really confused about this whole thing.
According to the 1880 census J.R.(James Robert)who was born about 1837 and birthplace listed as Kentucky was living in kanawha, Fayette Co. WV. Also listed was his wife Elvira, son Thomas, daughter-in-law Alice, two daughter Mary and Julia. Also listed was Doctor Buster who I believe was named Thomas S. Buster who was a physcian and was born around 1800 and died in 1889 and is listed as J.R.'s brother. If this James Robert was born around 1837 then he could not be the son of Thomas S. (died around 1819) who was the son of Claudius and Dorcas. The Buster's I am related to must be a different group maybe or I've got something wrong. What do you think?
