Hello, I think my sister had Kallmans, she was born with a cleft pallette, later on did not develope breasts. I think she was put on the pill. Then she could not have children. At the age of 47 died of thryoid cancer. Now I have been investigating this for a while and I believe when she was born in 1947 they would not of know about this. Does this sound right, its some kind of gene problem,Thanks Jenny.Email me if you have info

Thanks for the reply Kim, have only just got back into the research mode! Do you have any birth/death/marriage dates for either Charles or Madeline or any other research that has been discovered that may be of interest? eg occupations etc I do not even have accurate details of William Woodcock or his wife so if you have anything there it would be appreciated.
Christine

Re: Lucius A Buswell, b. 1865 NH

Well, I may be able to help you with this, not too sure. I have not heard of the Lucius Buswell b. 1865, only the older one that was a Civil War vet, and died a few years after the war in Grantham in a saw mill accident. He was my Great Uncle. He had no children and he was the first born of his father. From my memory, the line from me is this; Donald (me), Winthrop (my dad - still alive), Oliver (my grandfather - dead), Guy (great grandfather), Oliver Beal Buswell (great great grandfather) and (I think) Lucius was his brother, to Oliver Beal Buswell. Now, when I was a kid, my Grandfather told me that there was a dark stain, or a history that was a terrible shame to the family back in that time. Apparently someone had a child out of wedlock, and that line of Buswells was started in Sunapee, or near there, and another line of Buswells grew up in NH near us, and they were long lost cousins we never knew, only met a few times, I believe this was the line from Lucius b. 1865. Now, who this child's father was I can't recall, but, I can find out!

David Buswell and Robert Buswell from Clipston, Northamptonshire

We are happy to announce that DNA analysis of two living Buswells has shown a match between our two families. And putting together the DNA analysis with our genealogical work, we can be sure that Robert (1804-1896) and David (1802-1886) were brothers.
Robert with his wife Elizabeth Wilford (1802-1871)left Clipston after the deaths of 4 of their children in 1853-4, boarded the ship Cynosure and immigrated to Ohio. David stayed in Clipston and m. Mary Wallis (1807-1886).

Robert and David's father was Joseph (1776-1845)who m. Ann (1775-1858). (The other brother was Jesse (1800-1874).) Joseph's father was Jonathon who m. Mary. Jonathon's father was Ephraim (1713-1773)who m. Elizabeth Jones (1720-1794).

Hi, Robert and Elizabeth went to the USA abt. 1854 They settled in Lorraine Co Ohio. A lineage chart is available in Ancestry. Elizabeth's maiden name was Elizabeth Wilford daughter of Samuel Wilford of Naesby. The Smart name was in error and has been corrected in Robert's lineage. I am in the process of putting together Robert's lineage showing his brothers and father, etc. If you are interested, my E-mail address is jabuswell@sbcglobal.net. I have been in contact with Cheryl who has been working on Roberts's family in America.
John

Dear Alan Buswell: I have the will of William Hall of Hathern, but the writing is almost unintelligible. It looks like his will is dated in 1669. If that is true, his daughter Elizabeth was still alive, because she is mentioned in the will. It is almost certain that her married name was Bower.

Ialso have the will of John Buswell, and I am willing to send you a copy if you will give me your mailing address. The will was proved 19 May 1574. It mentions his children from both of his wives--5 from the first wife, and 4 from the 2nd wife. The oldest child, Thomas, contested the will, because he thought that the children of the first wife had been sort changed. He lost.

If you will tell me yor e-mail address, I will let you know if I ever find anything definitive. Best wishes. ralphboswell@hotmail.com.

My name is John A. Buswell formerly of Culver, In. My E-mail address is jabuswell@sbcglobal.net.
William Taber is a distant relative and we both have a common ancestor of John David Buswell. John David was the son of David Buswell of Clipston, England. I have been at the Clipston Baptist Church and would like to make following comments:
1.Charles son of David and Mary died at a very early age. His grave is not marked, but I have a picture of the Wallis and Jane tombstone and David and Mary's The old graveyard on the right side of the church is now someone's garden. Not all graves were moved, perhaps Charles is or was there.
2. Through the years I have accumulated a number of Clipston Buswell lineage charts. Some from England, a couple from Australia (relatives ?), and some I have put together myself. I am combining a number of these charts and the new chart will outline how I believe the Clipston Buswell's were related. I will post this as it is completed and has been reviewed by others.
3. Our current lineage has been posted under the Family Tree Maker by my daughter Debarah Sue Gettz. In the past I think my daughter has shared a lot of info. with William Taber.
4. I would be glad to have additional participants in the review of the new chart, if anyone is interested.
John

Sandy,
What indeed was happening in their lives? Robert was elderly and perhaps not well. Would sale of small acreages perhaps have helped with medical bills or surgeries? From the 1841 and 1851 England censuses we know he was an agricultural laborer while in England. Latter years could be very difficult on the elderly and by this time Mary, Joshua and Samuel were making their homes away from him--- Samuel in particular was far away in Glendale, WI.
Very perceptive of you to catch the prioritizing of the names. Does this mean Robert was less able to conduct his affairs and Lois was assuming more responsibility?
Does anyone know what newspapers existed for this period in the area?
---Cheryl

Cheryl - the listing of property in for "Lois" was under Buswell. I thought it was interesting the way that the names were prioritized. The 1890 property sold was as: Robert/Lois Buswell. The 1891 property sold was Lois/Robert Buswell. For some reason I thought this might be a dau. Someone that was living with their father? And then I was wondering - what was happening in their lives to sell off the properties?

In talking with a lady at the lorain county land office. She said that she had found great success with her ancestry using Western Reserve in Cleveland Historical Society. They have lots of regional documents-
http://www.wrhs.org/index.php/library/genealogy

Have a good day.

Oh, Sandy a couple of thoughts about "Lois."

There are several Lois Buswells. One is Lois Susie, dau of Samuel b. 1861 d. 1940. She married David Butterfield in 1885. Another candidate for Lois could be Robert's dau. Lois (if she did not die of scarlet fever as calculated by me as being about 1853/4. (The scarlet fever story of five of Elizabeth's and Robert's kids dying within one year of scarlet fever comes from a relative of mine, Mary Kenyon.) Another would be Lois dau. of Joshua, Robert's son. This Lois was born Nov. 1876 d. 1948. I don't know which Lois it was without more info.
Was Lois' last name on the documents Buswell. If so that would probably rule out Samuel's dau. Lois Susie as she was married in 1885 and would have signed her name Lois Butterfield. So that leaves Robert's dau. and Joshua's dau.
Hmmm...
Cheryl

And your trip to Elyria is very interesting.
Re: Elizabeth Buswell's grave. She definitely is buried in Ridgelawn as attested by the record on Internment.net (recorded in the 1930's). I wonder if there is a place the maintenance people keep broken gravestones at Ridgelawn? Or is the cemetery so old that maintenance is volunteer? Did you notice any out buildings while you were there?
My pedigree is Robert/Samuel/Luther/Roger.

Cheryl Buswell

Here are some of my notes on Robert Buswell/Elizabeth or Betsy land purchased/sold:
1861 - 15 acres (lot 3) Carlisle / sold 1868 to Chauncy Prindle.
1868 - 23+ acres (lot 6-8) Elyria / sold 1871 to Joseph Johnson.
1871 - 20 acres (lot 1-2) Newberry tract (elyria twnshp)/sold 1874 to William Rick.
1875 - 10 acres (lot 2) Carlisle/sold 1882 to Jacob Maddock
1883 - 11 acres (lot 8) Elyria / sold 1890 name is Robert/Lois to H.M S.M Waterbury.
1891 - Lois/Robert sold property to Arthur/Kale Ingleton. Lot 11-12 Elyria "Starris". Not sure how this property was acquired.

Very interesting flow of buy/sold properties around "life-changes" like the death of Elizabeth and then new Lois. Also, moving from Carlisle to Eyria, and then back-and-forth.

Looking at all the records there were lots of buswell's buying and selling properties. Records (handwriting) was beautiful.
As Mr. Taber pointed out, the Clipston area Buswells were one of several groups of our family's emigrees to America.

The earliest group was from Husbands Bosworth in Leicestershire and consisted of the first emigrant ancestor here in the person of Isaac Buswell (1592-1683), a weaver by trade. He, his second wife Margaret, and three children by his deceased first wife, Elizabeth, sailed from Southhampton on the ship Confidence on April 24, 1638 and landed in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. He and his family settled in Salisbury, Mass.

I am descended from Isaac and Samuel(1628-1704), his second child by Elizabeth. I believe the first Buswell of my direct line to move to Ohio was also named Isaac Buswell (1776-1857). He and his second wife, Betsey (nee Rockwood), moved to LaGrange, Lorain County, in circa 1830. They later moved north to Carlisle Township.

My paternal grandparents were both from Ohio. My grandfather (Roy Burr Buswell) was from LaGrange and my grandmother (Katherine Buswell nee Gott) was from Wellington. Their towns were about 5 miles apart and they first met in grade school.

My two children are of the 12th generation of Buswells in America. Perhaps of interest is the belief that our ancestors were originally French Normans who were named for their venue, i.e., "Bois Ville" or "wood town." After 1066 and the Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror the name of the new arrivals to England was Anglicized to Buswell.
Lots and lots of Buswells from the Clipston area. However, be aware there were other family groups in other ares of England, and I don't know that anyone has proven they are all related.

This Joshua was a son of Robert BUSWELL (b. abt 1804) and Elizabeth WILFORD (b. abt. 1806). This couple sailed to the US aboard the Cynosure in 1854, traveling with my own ancestors, John BUSWELL & his wife Clara (WILFORD) BUSWELL. It is believed that this Robert Buswell was an uncle of my John Buswell, but I have not yet confirmed that.

My John BUSWELL was born 1833, son of David BUSWELL and Mary WALLIS, in Northamptonshire, baptized in Clipston, Northamptonshire.

Joshua Buswell, b. 1835, was my 1st cousin, 4x removed. He was from Northamptonshire. Found on the 1851 census in Clipston, Northamptonshire, England. Then in 1870 in Elyria... not sure when he immigrated. Thank you for finding him in the cemetery.

Hi Pamela... I was having some difficulty with the Buswell line. Then I was fortunate in getting an Ancestry.com msg from Stephen Ralph Boswell. Stephen has spent thousands of hours and dollars in researching the Buswell line over a 60-year span. He's also hired 3 genealogists to help him over this time. Stephen believes that Isaac Buswell's father was Roger Buswell and that Roger's father was John Buswell. He is also convinced that Elizabeth Hall was NOT John Buswell's first wife. A professional geneolgist misread the will of Elizabeth Hall's father, William Hall, and thought that she had married John Buswell. When Stephen obtained a copy of the will it reflected that Elizabeth's husband's name was "Bower" not Buswell. My descendant was Phoebe's brother, Samuel Buswell. I am choosing to go along with Stephen's input rather than the many other trees that hold that Elizabeth Hall was John Buswell's first wife. In his e:mail to me, Stephen stated that he was willing to share information on the Buswell line with anyone who was interested and he provided his e:mail address, ralphboswell@hotmail.com. I hope this helps you.

Hi,

I believe I am descended from Phebe Buswell. I was wondering if it is known whether Isaac Buswell's father was really Roger Buswell, son of John Buzwell and Elizabeth Hall, as is listed in many of the family trees here on Ancestry.com. I know many times we truly don't know where our immigrant ancestors came from...

Pamela Gross, California, USA

Nothing made sense about the dates or the wives and I am a stickler for accuracy when it comes to putting things on my tree. I am also descended from Samuel who married Sarah Keyes so I guess that makes us distant cousins. Not so distant anymore though. If there is anything I can help you with please let me know. You've really made my day.

My records show Isaac Buswell (from whom I am descended)sailed to America (April 24, 1638) on the Confidence accompanied by his second wife, Margaret (d. 1642), and three of four children by his first wife Elizabeth (d. 1631). One other child had died prior to his emigration.

In 1638 he settled in Salisbury, Massachusetts, where he received land in the first division and was made a freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1640. He was a weaver by trade.

His second wife, Margaret, died in 1642. He married his third wife, Susannah, in 1644.

Isaac (1) had the following children by Elizabeth:

o William (b. England 1626, d. June 21, 1699)
o Samuel (b. England 1628, d. July 7, 1704)
o Phoebe (b. England 1629, d. 1680)
o Gabriel (b. England, d. England 1631)

I am descended from Samuel who married Sarah Keyes in 1656 in Salisbury.

Issac's children by Susannah were:

o Mary (b. Salisbury 1645; d. 1683)
o Isaac (2) (b. Salisbury 1650; d. 1679)

I hope this is helpful to you.

Isaac Buswell (1592 - 1683)

I am looking for info regarding Isaac Buswell born in England in 1592. I have discovered he was on the passenger list for the ship "Confidence" out of Southhampton on 24 April 1639 bound for the colonies. According to my research, his first wife Margaret was born in the USA and they were married on July 8, 1623. Their five children were born between 1623 and 1631 - ALL IN THE USA. As you can see, these dates totally conflict. Does anyone have any info that might clear this up?

Stuart Buswell was my great-greatgrandfather. In the research I've done, I don't find the name Herbert among the names of any of Stuart and Kate's children at all. From what I've discovered, Stuart and Kate's third child, Earnest N Buswell, was born in 1879. He appears in the 1880 US Census. I concur with David Buswell and Matilda McAdam being Stuart's parents, but can find nothing to adequately substantiate who David Buswell's parents were. If anyone can provide me with source info, I would be very grateful.

I have a great great grandfather (William H. Buswell) that was born in Denmark, Oxford, Maine, USA abt. 1831. He had a son Fred E. Buswell born Jun 18, 1866. William was married to Mary B. ? (from Maine ?). I am not sure if this is any relation to your family. Iowa State Census, 1895 Record says that he lived in Buena Vista, Iowa. I am not sure if this will help at all!

Lucius A Buswell, b. 1865 NH

He has the same name as Lucius Buswell (1839-1867) who was in the American Revolution .
Both men were born in NH and lived in Grantham and Sunapee NH.
I've been told the elder Lucius had no children.
Does anyone have any info to share about what family this other Lucius b. 1865 may have come from?
In the 1880 census, he is 17 yo and living with the Brown family as a farm hand. I was told by Grantham historian that the Buswelll and Brown farms abutted.
In 1900 & 1910 he lived in Sunapee with his wife Susie -
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for replying so quickly. It would be fine if you could send the information as an email attachment. If you are interested, I go back to the early 1000's on my BUSWELL line. I have posted my tree on rootsweb.com. This is the web address (you can COPY & PASTE it to view it)

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=ksb17011

I just needed some info to fill in some of the gaps in between, which I appreciate & thank you very much.

K.B.

Hi Alan,

Do you know who William Roland Buswell's parents were? You seem to be tracking my line fairly closely. I wondered if he was the son of William Buswell (born 1818 Market Harborough)and Lucy nee Adnitt.

David

John must have been born sometime during the reign of Henry VIII and died during the reign of Elizabeth I. His first wife MAY have been Elizabeth Hall, daughter of William of Hathern. If, in the transcript of William Hall's will has been misread, the date of 1569 instead of 1549, then Elizabeth Hall, who died c1553 could have been wife No 1.
