Ami Johnson Butcher - Livingston Co, Missouri

My Butcher lineage is from my grandmother, Flossie Butcher; her father,Frederick John Butcher; and his father, Ami Johnson Butcher who was married to Philena Gettie Hessenflow. For anyone searching this line, I have what I consider a treasure, a picture of Ami! This is from a glass negative. I'd put the date at about 1904 or so. In the picture is also Nettie Butcher (Philena Genettie Hessenflow), their children Fred, Orin, Elsie and Francis Earl (Early). I'm all for sharing our knowledge so anyone interested email me at mikegks@gmail.com. I have a large collection of pictures to scan so I can preserve them before I return them to my Mom (Ami's gg-granddaughter). I also have pictures of Bowens, Hessenflows and Grahams, Leavells, Mays, Gotts and others. There are also too many that are unlabeled. I have 5 boxes of photos which translates to hundreds of pictures. If I have to say this there is no cost except time. No doubt it will take a while to scan these so be patient.

I am in New Zealand and trying to trace my family tree. My Great Grand Father was Frederick William Butcher, he married Annie Agnes Williams, they had 8 children of which I am unsure of all their names but so far I have from the youngest, Frank Owen Butcher (b.1910) Eric Charles Butcher (b1907) Hilda, Thomas, Annie (b circa 18990, Doris, Dorothy (b 1900)and William. Eric was my Grandfather and him and his brother Frank came to New Zealand in the early 1920's. It is thought that Annie Agnes (The Mother) died either from Child birth having frank or not long after. Frederick William seemed to have been in the Royal Navy and coast guard. Photo is of Frederick William. It appears that these Butchers stayed pretty much within the Postsmouth Area, Eric was born at 34 London Avenue North End.

Is anything more known about him? If not, I've stumbled across a reference to someone that may be him and it might explain what happened to him.
Johanne Valentine Metzger

Hello,

I am reading all of the threads and it appears we are all working towards the same family origin. I am tracing back to Johann Valentine Metzger (b Dec 7, 1731)son of Christian Metzger, who was one of the Hessian soldiers according to family history. Anyone working on that line or have info on him? I am also looking for info on John B Butcher born in 1780 and married Nancy Hawk. We are told there is Indian blood in the family, but as near as I can tell it would have to be on the side of one of the ladies who married into the Butcher line. Also, a Barnabus Butcher has popped up on the radar. Has anyone heard of or know anything of him? We have wondered if this John B and Barnabus may share different mothers and the same father as they are both listed as being sons of Johann Valentine Metzger. I look forward to any input ya'll might have.

BUTCHER family - Logan County West Virginia - Specifically family of Albert Butcher and Patsy Skaggs Butcher.

I am researching the Butcher family line of Logan County, West Virginia, starting with John Green Butcher (1827-1900?)and his wife Louisa Lucas (1835-?). They had 10 children; sons French (1855-1940); Albert (1856-?); Wm Floyd (1857-1945); Crockett (1864-1945); Charles (1867-1949); Hugh T. (1873-1951); George (1876-1949) and daughters Nancy Butcher Skaggs (1860-?); Sarah Butcher Perry Zirkle Ellis (1862-?)and Frances Butcher Perry (1870-?). I have been successful with most of the branches through census research, but I am unable to find any records of Albert and Patsy Skaggs Butcher. Is there other family information out there?

In the 1900 census for Chapmanville, Logan, West Virginia, ED-63, Louisa (Lucas) Butcher is residing with her Niece Sally, and Nephews John G. and Allen (Albert) - all listed as children of Albert and Patsy through county marriage records. Does anyone know what happened to Albert and Patsy?

Greetings All --

Am searching for information on Benjamin Franklin Butcher (b. abt 1857, d. 1917). He was married to Amanda Nancy Minerva Rosenbalm, with whom he had five children (Omer Vean, Orgie L., Hurley, Mary M., and Claudie Floye). BF Butcher apparently died (some say was killed) in Marshall AR, and Amanda subsequently married a Mr. Barnett; afterwards, most of Butcher's children moved to OK and went by the name Barnett.

Any information on BF Butcher or his family would be most appreciated, and I'd be happy to share any info I have.

MJ Waller

John Butcher possible descendant of Barnabus Butcher

My 4th ggf is John Butcher. On the census records he lists his place of birth as TN. He moved to Iowa in 1850. He was married and already had 3 children all who have Indiana listed as place of birth. He is buried in Woodlawn cemetery birth: 1822 death: 2/2/1887 also his wife is buried there Treacy Butcher b: 1822 d: 4/21/1888.
Children:
William (Ind)
Elizabeth (Ind)
Michael (Ind)
Levi (Iowa) my 3rd ggf (ggf William Delmar Butcher)
(gf John F. Butcher)
Sarah (IA) also she is listed as "idiotic" on later census
Catherine
Samantha
Mary

There's not a lot of info in John Butcher from TN, so I'm trying to see if the connection to Barnabus is accurate. Any info would help. Plus I have lots of photos of the Butcher family from Iowa. I think some moved to MO. My grandather John F. Butcher moved to San Antonio with his brother and they had a plumming company. His brother passed away and then my gf moved to Houston. He died in Houston in 1985. My mother, Jonna Gayle Butcher, was his daughter. She had a step-sister Doris, and a brother (who is still alive).

Thanks
Isaac Scott Butcher 1900 Cenus help

Is 1900 census incorrect? In the 1900 Birch, Braxton, WV cenus is listed Butcher, I (?Isaac Scott) and wife M. C (? Martha Cox) along with their children J. Roy, ES, Albert, JE. Also a Susan Keener is listed in the same household as mother and a wd. If this is the Susan Keener that was married to Thomas Butcher then James Keener she should be listed as an Aunt to Isaac. She did have a son Isaac (Newton) but he was married to a Narcissus Payne. Isaac Scott's parents are Warrick and Mary Margaret Dilly Butcher. Can someone help me with this please.

Podolsky

I have just finished scanning 122 messages re Podolsky. I almost hesitate to join the frey. My maternal grandparents were Podolskys, Samuel and Chaya (Clara) who also emigrated from the same area of Russia, as most of the other Podolskys, 100 years ago and settled in New York City where they had three children: Irving (Isadore) b1908, Tanya, my mother, b1911 and Sarah b1915. My aunt Sarah at 87 is the only surviving sibling, alive and very well; living on Long Island. I'm absolutley amazed by the number and variation of the spellings of the family name. I have a first cousin Donald,
Irving's son, living in Florida.

Years ago we used to have what we called the Podolsky Cousins Club that met twice a year; once in New York and then in the summer in the Hartford, CT area where I was raised and my mother had cousins.

I'm writing to add another branch to the Podolsky family tree.
I have a fairly complete Podolsky tree for my family which I'd be happy to share.

I look forward to hearing from any of you fellow Podolskys. Happy holidays.

Butcher's of PA>Loudoun Co. VA

Please help if you have information. (1) John Butcher (Boucher) and wife Hannah. He died and left will 1707 Phila. PA. Names children John Butcher (eldest son); Samuel; Mary (Eldest daughter); Sarah. Neither of the girls were yet 18, nor the sons yet 21 when he died - meaning they all were born between 1686-1706! (2) Samuel Butcher b.? d. ca. 1778 Loudoun Co. VA - his will refers his wife Susannah back to JOHN BUTCHER SR. OF PA and a bond from SAMUEL BUTCHER JR. IN PA - obviously referring back to the descendants of John Butcher (1).

Samuel (2) has seven children - but only identifies six - Samuel, John, Hannah, Alice (Elsie), Jane and Elizabeth!

Samuel (2) has been identified on the net as being married to two different women (A) Susannah Marple and married 1736 and (B) Susannah Lewis date unknown.

The children listed to Samuel (2) were all born in the 1750's and 1760! Hardly the offspring of Susannah Marple - no woman delays childbirth 20 years.

We know that John Butcher d. 1707/Hannah had two sons: John and Samuel. Has anyone constructed the families of these two men?

It is possible the Samuel that married Susannah Marple in 1736 is the son of John (who became John Sr. after his father's death 1707) listed as Samuel Jr. on the 1778 will. (The Samuel we find in Loudoun Co. VA who and become the father of Samuel b. 28 Mar 1756 in Loudoun Co. VA who married Hannah Drake etc. and the other six children listed in 1778. would have been unmarried for many years to suddenly have children in the 1750's!)

Or - was Samuel who died in Loudoun Co. VA married twice both times to a Susannah - and had two families - or is there another generation of John/Samuel's we have all missed!

These dates don't work very well!!! I would really appreciate any assistance I can in getting my ancestral family somewhat straight! Thank you. Rose Mary S. Rudy
It seems many of you have done quite a bit of research on the various Butcher lines in WV, including Logan County. Has anyone have in their tree, and so can help me out, with the origin these individuals: Joshua Butcher born in Monroe Co VA/WV on Jan 12, 1792 and at some point, moved to Chapmanville in Logan County, married Sarah Lafferty Clark in 1812. They had a son James, born 1814, who married Sarah Dingess (born 1825. They had a son Smith Butcher, born 1859 in VA/WV who married Augusta Chambers.

I can go further forward, if it helps. Anyone have these individuals in their tree and have some info prior to Joshua?

Anne Butcher
MD

William Butcher is my GGGGGrandfather.I know he was married to Margaret Donnally.I have information that says they had at least seven children:John,Jacob(my GGGGrandfather),Hannah,Mary,Elizabeth and Samuel. Is this information correct? does anyone know where he died or where he might be buried? My info says he moved to Cabell Co.,Virginia with his son Samuel and disappeared from the cenus in 1820.There is a possibility he moved to the Johnson Co.,Kentucky area prior to 1830 because two of his teenage granddaughters settled there. I had been looking high and low for more info on him and any response will be greatly appreciated!
