Joseph Butler had Jeremiah, Joseph
and Benjamin and Margaret 1795, 1799,
1811 and 1805 in NY. They migrated
to PA, OH before settling in VA 1825
Nicholas Co. Is there any trace of
them in NY where I may check for a
declaration of intention for Joseph?
Seems they were in the land business
early on. Jeremiah had 2100 acres
when he was taken prisoner and sent
to a Yankee prison in the Civil War
for being a southern sympathizer.
Joseph is said to have joined the
Union Army late in the war, was captured and released, lived with
neighbors who were not Union by choice. Benjamin had a large family
and lived in Nicholas, Braxton, Clay,
Roane and Calhoun Cos. over his life.
Margaret married Moses Martindill in
Gallia OH 1822, died childless 1823.
All this is documented. I hope some
where out there Joseph's NY location
is known. Any connection?
