Pat,

Reading an old message from you and hope you get this reply. I have slightly different information than that given by Dennis. You might wish to check further regarding both sets of data.

I have Aaron BUTTRAM/BUTRAM born about 1834 in Johnson Co., Indiana to Jacob BUTTRUM and Elizabeth BURNETT. Several BUTTRAM and KEETON and allied families traveled to Johnson Co., IN by covered wagons in the late 1820's from Wayne Co., KY. Some stayed there and some pushed on to the West as yours did. The information I have is that Aaron married Mary Euline ______, who was born in Arkansas about 1841. They had nine children:

Suzanne, b. abt. 1859 MO

John F., b. abt. 1861 MO (Probably your John Franklin.)

Abraham, b. 1863 - died 1937

Parthenia, b. abt. 1867 MO

Mary A., b. abt. 1869 MO

Lucy A., b. abt. 1871 MO

Martha F., b. abt. 1874 in Indian Territory (later Oklahoma)

Hiram Daniel, b. abt. 1875

Louisiana, b. abt. 1878 in Texas

Let me know if I may be of further help to you. I believe there is more information on this family in the quarterly BUTTRAM KITH & KIN publication. I'll look and see if I can find it. It was a letter from Abraham to his parents in Arkansas if I remember correctly, or maybe from them to Abraham in Arkansas. Hard to remember everything!

Anna Bertram (a.k.a. BUTRAM/BUTTRAM, etc.)

I can go back several generations. Let me know if you want or need this information. Anna B.

Ruth, I am so glad you posted this information about Abigail's mother being in a household in Johnson Co., IN after the death of her husband. I was certain the information in the BUTTRAM book was incorrect in that respect. I could not feature why she (Nancy) died in Wayne Co., KY when her husband and married children had gone on to Indiana.
ARK-Mary J BUTRUM/BUTRAM/BUTTRUM

I've lost the trail of Mary J Buttrum and need some help. Can't be sure of the spelling of her last name.
Born 1839/1840 Polk or Scott county Ar(could be Tn) died 1917 m. Elijah Samuel RUSSELL b. 1835 Tn died abt 1862 They were married abt 1860 in Polk Co Ar, he went into the army but died before he could see his son E.S. Russell Jr born in 1861. Mary remarried about 1864 to a Jerry/Gerald McDaniel b. ? d. 1917, I believe in Scott Co Ar. They had Children (he may have had some of the following from a previous marriage)
Joseph M, Henry, Thomas (Tinker) Andrew Liza and Betty. I found a Mcdaniel family that had most of these names in Scott Co Ar but Mary J is not included. Any of this ring any bells? Thanks much, Freddie B Stewart

Hello Butram Researchers, Does anyone have a list with vital statistics on siblings of Cornelius Buttram who married Nancy Woodruff/Woodard? in N.C-Rowan Co, If my recall is correct. Yes, Nancy Buttram, wife of Cornelius, is enumerated as living in the household of her daughter, Nancy Richardson and husband John Richardson in the 1850 Johnson Co., Indiana Census. Cornelius did NOT marry Catherine Kidwell, but his nephew, Cornelius Buttram did marry her in Wayne Co., Ky. He died early 1800's-around 1813, I think-Anna Buttram has the precise information.
Ruth

Migrated with a wagontrain to Johnson Co., Indiana and died there ca 1844-48. He is father of Abigail Butram who married Rev. (A) Wiley Jones. Both are buried in Pioneer Cemetery near Baldwin, Douglas Co., Ks. The above Cornelius Buttram had a nephew by the same name who served in the War of 1812, married Catherine Kidwell. He passed away in Wayne Co., Ky. shortly after serving in the War.
Ruth

I have some information for you and might be able to point you in the right direction to get more.

I grew up hearing your grandmother referred to quite often by my grandparents, Angus and Maggie Buttram. She was always called "Lula Mae." We were members of Little Vine Church until around 1974 and one of my aunts still lives next door. If you are still looking for this information, let me know and I can put you in touch with one of my aunts who knows much of the family history.

The Pettit family is still in the area. The ones most likely to be directly related to Lula Mae would be around Grovesprings in Wright County, MO; Conway in Laclede County, MO or Niangua in Webster County, MO. Little Vine is right on the borderline of all three counties.

Conway is probably your best bet -- Dennis Pettit and I were in the same class at Conway.

Ruth, I agree with your birth dates (1st three in KY and remaining seven in Indiana) and comments. My suggestion would be for you to obtain more detailed information about the land transaction in Wayne Co., KY when your Cornelius BUTRAM sold his land there. That would give you the exact date. Have you considered that Abigail could have conceived on the way to Indiana?

Have you found them on the 1830 Johnson Co., IN Census? I am sure they were there at that time.

Anna, I just checked a family record that states the first 3 children of Abigail Butram and husband Rev. Wiley Jones were born in Kentucky, and the remaining 7 children were born in Indiana. The LAST child to be born in Kentucky, according to this document, is Abner Lafayette Jones who was born February 28, 1828. The FIRST child to be born in Indiana is Elizabeth Jones born January 16, 1830. Source:Comments Concerning the Genealogy of Mary Jones Horning-(document does have many errors, but the birthdates are accurate. ) How many miles is it from Wayne Co., Ky to Johnson Co., Indiana? The pregnancy may have slowed them down, I don't know....cannot imagine a woman traveling in that condition-conceived in April of 1829. Have you found any land records for the Buttrams in Indiana? or my Jones? What is the earliest land record in Indiana for them? Do you think there was family already there? or friends, to help them get started? I am still looking for your Jones but is very elusive! Take care. Ruth
Ruth, I believe Cornelius sold his land in Wayne Co., KY in 1829 and that must have been when he and his married children, friends and neighbors, started out for Johnson Co., Indiana. I don't believe I found them on the 1830 Census in Johnson Co., IN though.

Hello, There were several men by the name of Cornelius Buttram, and some were descendants of William Buttram of North Carolina, Kentucky, Va and Tn. I will place your name on a member list of a Buttram website if yoiu wish, and the link to the Buttram Book data base is located at the free site, as well as names and email addresses of many Buttram descendants who have large databases with Buttram information. Let me kniw. My email address is misschevious@cpol.net, use upper case for the first letter m only. My Cornelius Buttram, father of Abigail Butram who married Rev. Wiley Jones, wife was named Nancy Woodard. Cornelius buttram was born in N.C., moved to Wayne Co., Ky. around 1807, where Abigail was born, and then all moved to Johnson Co., Indiana around 1830, which is where Cornelius Buttram died. His wife, Nancy, is found living in the household of her daughter Nancy, who married a Mr. Richardson in Johnson Co., Indiana. The remaining family members moved to Cass Co., Mo. in 1848, and later to Douglas Co., Ks around 1854-56, while Kansas was yet a Territory. Wiley and Abigail Butram Jones are buried at Pioneer Cemetery, on the outskirts of Baldwin City, in Douglas Co., Ks. Hope this helps! Ruth

I've been searching for any information about a marriage between a Catherine Butram and Martin Shores in Wayne Co. KY on 4 Aug. 1830. Someone told me that it was listed on her request for Widow's Pension that she submitted in KY in 1815 that she was a widow of Cornielius Butram, who was killed as the result of the War of 1812. Could this be the same Catherine Butram?

I am from the Shores line and am trying to connect some of my people together. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Loretta
