Mary Buttermore Boley

I am working on the War of 1812 service of her husband Thomas Boley. He died in service 20 Jan 1813. Mary and their children Eliza and Thomas got a federal invalid pension starting in 1815.

I hired a professional who went to the Nat'l Archives and physically searched for the pension application. She struck out. I was hoping it would give Mary's maiden name.

Somebody added her to Jacob's family group sheet, based on what? (I think it is true because my g-gma who knew her in C'ville said she was a Buttermore.) Somebody gave her the middle name of Margaret. Who? Please help.
Mary Ann Skinner 703-319-8126

Yesterday I created a DNA group named Jacob Bodamer, Revolutionary War soldier, on Ancestry.com. I see this as a way for the Buttermore family to establish possible links to Germany / Deutschland or Holland, whatever

Please join, especially if you are male, your surname is BUTTERMORE / BODAMER or any variant, and you do not mind paying for a Paternal Lineage Test. Gals can get a father or brother to take it, but can do the Maternal in any case... I snuck in on a special rate 2-3 years ago.

You don't have to get your DNA done by Ancestry. If you find a cheaper deal, it is possible to self-enter your results to your page on Ancestry. I'm looking into other possibilities to go global.

Right now, my DNA is the only one up there, or anywhere for that matter. JOHANNES THEUNE is my fourth best match, going back 19 generations. I have attempted to contact him, no luck. My closest match is DAVID ALLEN, 10 generations back, and one of the two others is definitely a female Hispanic. Go figure!

PS Also interested in NULTER DNA, want to find where Maria, Frederick and their mother, Margaret CLAFFY came from.

BUTTERMORE Richard "Dick"

Richard "Dick" Buttermore, 66, passed away on October 19, 2010 with his loving family by his side.

He was born on May 26, 1944 in New York City, NY.

He was preceded in death by a son Gar Richardson Buttermore, parents William J. and Evelyn Z. Buttermore, aunts Josephine, Frances, Margaret, Beatrice, and Eleanor Buttermore and Marge Moran. Also his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Walter "Bud" Fisher. Dick had been battling cancer since March 30, 2010.

He spent his school years at boarding school in Manhattan, due to the fact that his father died when he was 3.
Dick spent most of his summers growing up in western Pennsylvania with his 5 aunts.
He also enjoyed spending fun times at Cape Cod.
Dick entered the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era in Germany.
He then moved to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University where he received his B.S. degree in Psychology. Dick has been a fixture of the Forest Park neighborhood in North Columbus, Ohio since 1986. He got involved with the Forest Park Civic Association and held the positions of President, Area Representative, Membership Co-Chairman, and for the last few years Past President. Dick had such a passion for his neighborhood.
He would enjoy sitting on the deck at home watching the squirrels, birds, some coyotes, deer, and groundhogs in the Woodward Park Nature Preserve. It was what sold him on Forest Park when he moved his family there.
He established many friendships during his long tenure as the "Forest Park Handyman", by being an honest businessman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Susan; children, Emily, Julia, Richard, and Katherine; step-daughter, Sherri Klayman (Steve Furbush) and their sons, Devin and Dylan Lightman.

Dick is also survived by his brother, Bill (Peg) Buttermore; sister, Joan (Dan) Aloia; sisters-in-law, Nancy Fisher and Linda Flynn; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, including special cousin, Linda Moran of Boston and son, Nigal Vann.

Dick has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Carmel Hospice, 1144 Dublin Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43215.

The family will receive visitors at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 1-2 p.m., where service will follow at 2 p.m.

An invitation is extended for all friends to join the family at his home following the service.
Visit www.schoedinger.com to sign an online guest book or to share a memory about Dick.

Published in The Columbus Dispatch on October 21, 2010 Share
I'm not very experienced and am just starting to research the Buttermore link. I'm related through Elizabeth Buttermore / Moses McCormick. IT looks like this might be a good lead, if more info is available I'd love to learn of it. IF there is a way to help sort it out I'd be happy to try and help.

KAM

Re: Elizabeth Buttermore Fayette County, Pennsylvania

You might check out the "Buttemore" family in Wash Twp, Fayette Co. (at least that's how it was spelled in 1860) I BELIEVE they might be associated with the Stephens family. In that family there is a child named Missoura Stephens. Close enough to your Missouri that i thought that might be a lead.

Also, is Levi a common first name in your tree? Because Levi Stephens was very common since that was the family patriarchs name.

Reason i came across your post is becasue i'm looking for the maiden name of Abigail UNKNOWN b. 1803 (w/o James Lackey b.1791). I think Abigail might be a Buttermore. This is based on the proximity of the families in the 1860 census. I haven't gone back to the 1850 census cuz i just discovered this a couple hours ago.

Another possibility for your Eliz parents could be the Rephards. That's also based on physical proximity but nothing more.

The Stephens family are all close together in the 1860 census and then the Lackeys are right next to them. I know for fact they are related. So take a look in 1860 and see which names surround them. Can't think of all of them right now, but Nutt and Wykoff are a couple i noted. Hope this helps. I realize it's all very speculative.

This thread seems to have died out since Phillis' message: " Jacob Bottimer came to berks county in about 1765 with Fugitives who had been driven from their home in the Palatinate into Holland he inlisted in Aug 9 1776 they came to Penn. and settled in Hannastown and stayed there until the village was burned down. this information is available from the Revolutionary Records Pennsylvania Archives.

Phyllis"

1. Has anyone reconciled her and Georganne's sources? There may also be new information, two or three Bodamer lines on the 'net, e.g. Descendants of Hans Ulrich Bodamer 20 Apr 1577 - 1658 (Baden, Württemberg, Neuenbuerg).

2. Is it possible to import this tree into ancestry.com?
3. Would it help in the search for our line?
In particular, these brothers could be the father of our Johannes Jacob:

Johannes Bodamer; May 1715 - d.19 May 1763
Johannes Bodamer; 30 Jun 1718 - d.14 Feb 1789 Germany, Baden, Württemberg, Neuenbuerg Oa, Hoefen;
Johann Ulrich Bodamer; 26 Sep 1721 - d.
Andreas Bodamer; 18 Sep 1725 - d.
Johann Martin Bodamer; 23 Jul 1732 - d.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Roger Buttermore

Jacob Buttermore is my 4th great-grandfather.
3rd ggrandfather was John 1784-1875; 2nd was George W. 1820-1892 and ggrandfather, William 1852-1923. I have much info from John down the line; however, much difficulty connecting John to the Patriot Jacob 1758-1820. I have seen several variations of the Buttermore name and Budmer is yet another! Even the DAR refers to Jacob BOTTOMER! I also would like to learn what church in Westmoreland Catherine was baptized? Please contact me at Lookin4u@Brevard.net Thanks!

Hello Mary - I am unable to explain the surprise when I saw your name! Mary Fletcher was the name of a teacher who initially got me started in family research back in the late 50s -- infact, I've dedicated my book/narrative to her! That being said, let me introduce myself. BUTTERMORE is my maternal surname; your Peter Buttermore was a brother to John Buttermore (both sons of Jacob Buttermore (many variations of spelling)! Currently, I am attempting to become a member of DAR and also getting my book completed!
A couple months ago, several Buttermore researchers decided to form a Buttermore Club and share information/research. I would like to welcome you to join us. If you are interested, please email me at Lookin4u@Brevard.net. No dues or obligations -- just a willingness to share!
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Lois in FL

Indiana, 1859.
I have Francis Buttermore (b. 1819, Ire) and wife Catherine in 1850 Census Billerica, MA, with childrren Francis (b.1845) & John W.my gggrandfather (b. 1846, later records show 1848). I cannot find family in 1860 or 1870. John W. appears again in 1880 in Marshalltown Iowa as John W. Buttomer. I tried to look for your family in Easton Co. Indiana 1860, but there is no Easton Co. listed in Indiana. There is a city of Eaton in Delaware Co. Indiana. Can you clarify for me?
Thanks,
Carole

Dear Anne,

I just saw your message. There is a group of Buttermore researchers, about ten of us, who are also descended from Jacob Buttermore. I looked at what you gave in your query and checked our master family file. We do show your Smith Buttermore, his wife and his children and that's all. Would you like to join us and contribute what you have to the whole? We'll be glad to share with you. Should you not wish to join us, I will be glad to pass on to you what we have about Jacob and his family. You may be surprised by some of it.

My telephone number is: (561) 394-6751, if you wish to talk to me.

Bill Coup
