D/O Swarenton (?) Butts. Informant, Mr. John H. Ballenger. Being a Bollinger researcher I printed it out thinking it might be relevant to my own lines but I don't think it is.
Elijah Butts f/o Jesse D. Butts?

The oldest verifiable member of my Butts family ties is Jesse D. Butts and wife, Lucinda P. Furbush. I've seen a census report showing Jesse's family living with a man, Elijah Butts, who was 31 years older than Jesse and I assume could be his father (or uncle?). The information that I've found regarding Elijah shows a wife, (Laura Fiske) but no children. Does anyone studying the Butts lines back this far have any knowledge of the children of Elijah Butts or the parents of Jesse D. Butts?

Looking for my great grandfather-William Butts born about 1870 in PA or ND. I do not have his parents names, it is a possibilty that he is a twin and his birth surname was RANDALL adopted by a BUTTS uncle. William Butts married Margaret Pike, where? They moved to North Dakota and had their first child Russel in 1903 in Minot, ND. They moved to Canada and had Iris in 1905 in Nelson, BC. Two more children followed - Charlie and Irwin birth unknown. They moved to Ontario and opened a bakery in Turkey Point. Russel and Iris died in Alberta, Canada and I believe Charlie and Irwin died in Arizona. Any info would be appreciated.

ROBERT E. BUTTS born 1918 in MICHIGAN

Robert Edwin Butts was born in MI about September 1918. His Mother was Vera Wingerter who had married men with the folowing surnames: BUTTS, MC ENANEY and MC VEIGH. In the 1920 census taken in Lansing, MI Robert, an infant, was still using the surname of Butts and was living with his maternal grandparents, his mother, step-father (John E McEnaney) and other family members. His mother was next married to a man with the surname of McVeigh and is shown in the 1930 census report. It's possible that Robert may have changed his name, it's possible but unknown. Do you know of anyone that might be this person I'm looking for?

Does your family history include Elijah Butts (b.1778 Canterbury, CT) and/or Rebecca Dunbar (b. 1780 Halifax, MA)?
They are buried in the Old Church Burying Ground in Morris, Otsego Co., NY. Elijah died in 1854 and Rebecca in 1845. There are several children with the Butts surname buried at the same cemetery, but I'm unsure if some of the names listed were their children or not. The only living child I believe to have been their son was Jesse D Butts (b. 1821/22 in Butternuts, Otsego Co, NY).
Not long before the death of my grandfather, I had the opportunity to get a few names of his family members. My grandfather was Leslie P. Butts (born in MI), His father Arthur Butts and mother Amy Butts. He also had a brother, Otto, who had no children. My grandfather told me his grandfathers name was Demetrius Eliacum Butts who served in the military during the civil war. I believe there is a bronze statue of this man somewhere in KS. I also know this family spent some time in FL. My grandfathers dad had brothers, but think he lost tract of them when his father, Arthur, died and Amy remarried. I also recall that Jesse Butts married Jessie Wells. I was in contact with Stan Wells years ago, but have lost contact with him sadly. If any of these names sound familiar - please contact me.

LUCINDA P (FURBUSH) BUTTS: born 12/29/1815, died 4/17/1891

I'm researching LUCINDA P FURBUSH who was born December 29, 1815 in MA. There is no known information regarding her parents or siblings. She married JESSE D BUTTS (b.1821 NY) in 1840 in Pittsfield, Otsego county, NY. The Butts family later moved to IL. On August 7,1880 Jesse died and Lucinda moved to Sidney, Fremont, IA where she remained under the care of her son, FRANK L BUTTS, until her death in April 17, 1891.

In 1880, shortly before Jesse's death, the IL census shows a Gilbert Furbush included along with Jesse & Lucinda Butts. Later, that same year, Gilbert is shown again in Sidney, IA included in his Furbush IA family.

Lucinda's son, Frank, had moved to IA from IL years before she joined her son there. My thoughts are that he may have gone for a visit with a Furbush relative and decided to stay there.

I've been told that Lucinda may be related to an AARON FURBUSH (Sr or Jr?) of MA who moved his family to NY. Supposedly Aaron had a son, SIMEON, (and possibly a daughter, Lucinda) who later married and had a daughter named Lucinda. I can find no records or family trees with any of these individuals.

During my research I've found many of the Furbush's in MA, NY, IL and IA. There is undoubtedly a connection. I'm hoping that someone who reads this holds the key to unlocking this family mystery.

If you have any information that can help with my research, I'd be most appreciative.

BUTTS FAMILIES OF OTSEGO CO, NEW YORK

Have been doing research on the surname of Butts for years and still have failed to find a concrete connection between Elijah & Rebecca Dunbar Butts of Otsego Co. NY and my ancestor JESSE D BUTTS who I believe was their son. Jesse was born in Butternuts, Otsego Co, NY in about 1821.
There is a census in which Elijah (born in CT) was included in Jesse's household but his date of birth differs with what was given to the census taker. Other family names of Jesse's children would lead me to believe Elijah & Rebecca were Jesse's parents however. Other Butts family members resided in the town of Laurens, Otsego Co, NY. Have documentation that Jesse & boyhood friend, Eli Gilbert, grew up together in the Otsego, NY area and remained friends until Jesse's death in 1880 in IL.

MILRAE DONNA BUTTS born in Michigan about 1816

Think this individual used the more common name of Donna. Have not been able to locate her since the 1920 census report taken in Lansing, MI when she was 4 years old. Her father was Leslie P Butts of Ionia, MI. He moved to CA in the late 1920's and I believe Donna visited him there at least once. She also had a brother, Robert E (Edwin or Edward) Butts that was about three years younger than Donna. Any information on either Donna or Robert would be greatly appreciated!!!

1917 - VERA BUTTS living in Lansing, MI

In 1917 my grandfather, Leslie P Butts, enlisted for a period of four years in the US Navy. At the time his wife was Vera Butts who resided at 620 Beech St., Lansing, MI. When Leslie was honorably discharged in September of 1921, there had been talk of a divorce but I've been unable to find any documentation or records showing dates of the marriage or divorce for the two. I also believe that Vera had two young children, but I know nothing more about them other than that there may have been a boy and a girl. It was "suggested" that Vera was planning on marrying again after her divorce from Leslie, but again, no specific information.

Could certainly use the help of someone who knows how to locate this information or is perhaps a descendant of this person.

All sincere assistance is always deeply appreciated.

Leslie Smith/AZ

Butts, Jesse D: born in NY about 1821, died in IL in 1880

My one ancestor, Jesse D. Butts, was born about 1821 in Butternuts, Otsego Co, NY. I know he went to school there and formed a life long friendship with another local boy - Eli Gilbert. Jesse married Lucinda P Furbush in 1840 in Pittsfield, NY. In later years Jesse and family moved to IL where he joined this friend Eli & family who'd already moved there. For a time Jesse lived in De Kalb, IL and I have a photo of an engraving of his home there (on 2nd Street) that was featured in some historical book about IL. Jesse and two of his sons served in the Union Army during the Civil War. After the war, Jesse's health was failing but he worked as a "grain inspector" in Chicago. Jesse died in August of 1880 and was buried at the Fairview Cemetery in De Kalb Co, IL. Jesse's widow, Lucinda, moved to IA until her death in 1892. Her boody was shipped back to IL for burial with her husband. Although I have copies of Jesse's military & pension files and have seen his death certificate and obituary NOWHERE have I found his actual date of birth or any recorded information giving the names of his paprents or siblings. I "think" his parents were Elijah (CT) & Rebecca Dunbar Butts (MA)who are buried in Morris, Otsego Co, NY. I've exhausted all "leads" in NY and am hoping someone can help me with any information that may still exist in IL.

Butts/Butz from PA to IL

My great-great grandfather was Michael William Aaron Butts, who was born in Park Quarry, PA, which was either in Bucks or Berks County, on Jan. 3, 1843. I''ve found it recorded both ways. Michael's parents were Daniel Wagner Butts/Butz, born in 1804 in Northhampton Co., PA and Eunice Berry. In 1850 and 1860 Michael was living in the home of his mother in Rock County, Wisconsin, with his siblings, Peter, Robert, and Annie, and his half-siblings, Henry Bonnell, James Bonnell, Robert Bonnell, Albert Bonnell, and Alzena Bonnell. By 1864, when Michael enlisted in the Union Army, he and his family had moved to Marion County, Illinois, where he lived the rest of his life and raised a large family, leaving behind a huge number of descendents. Michael's father, Daniel Wagner Butts/Butz, was the son of Michael Butz, born May 1, 1764 in Northhampton, PA, and Mary Jane Shaw. His line continues in Hans Michael Butz, born January 17, 1719/20 and Maria Elizabeth Ann Weber, born July 11, 1730 in Pfalz, Germany, then Hans Michael Butz and his wife Maria Margarethe ?, and finally Hans Jacob Butz, born about 1667 in Wurtemburg, Germany. I would love to hear from anyone connected to this branch of the family. Please contact me at gjhawley@mac.com. Thanks.

There is no father listed. This family is followed by the family of Jesse Butts born about 1810 and wife Malinda born abt 1809 in the same household as Samuel Butts born 1831. This family is followed by the surname Cottle in which there is listed a Robert Butts born 1840. I am searching for information on these families. Was the husband of Sarah Butts...Nathan Butts( abt 1820)? What happened to Jesse Butts and Malinda? Is Robert the son of Nathan and Sarah Butts? Your replies will be appreciated.

BUTTS, JOHN EDWARD; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient WW II

BUTTS, JOHN E.

Rank and organization: Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, Co. E, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. Place and date: Normandy, France, 14, 16, and 23 June 1944. Entered service at: Buffalo, N.Y. Birth: Medina, N.Y. G.O. No.: 58, 19 July 1945. Citation: Heroically led his platoon against the enemy in Normandy, France, on 14, 16, and 23 June 1944. Although painfully wounded on the 14th near Orglandes and again on the 16th while spearheading an attack to establish a bridgehead across the Douve River, he refused medical aid and remained with his platoon. A week later, near Flottemanville Hague, he led an assault on a tactically important and stubbornly defended hill studded with tanks, antitank guns, pillboxes, and machinegun emplacements, and protected by concentrated artillery and mortar fire. As the attack was launched, 2d Lt. Butts, at the head of his platoon, was critically wounded by German machinegun fire. Although weakened by his injuries, he rallied his men and directed 1 squad to make a flanking movement while he alone made a frontal assault to draw the hostile fire upon himself. Once more he was struck, but by grim determination and sheer courage continued to crawl ahead. When within 10 yards of his objective, he was killed by direct fire. By his superb courage, unflinching valor and inspiring actions, 2d Lt. Butts enabled his platoon to take a formidable strong point and contributed greatly to the success of his battalion's mission.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Medina, New York

Cemetery: St. Mary's Cemetery

Born: 1922 at Medina, NY

Died: 1944 Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/butts...

Note: This is not my ancestry.

I am looking for any information on Henry Clay Sellers. Born in 1835 in Virgina and died in 1919 in Illinois. I am at a dead end. I know he was married to someone from Iowa. They had 2 boys Leonard R Sellers and George S Sellers. They possibly had a baby boy Henry that died in infancy in 1861 in Iowa. He then went to Illinois and married Lucille Smith Sweet. I think he may have married a 3 time to margaret Sill Bird. I would really like to know the name of his first wife and his parents names. Thanks.

William Ransom Butts and Minerva Anderson - AL

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me get past this stump here. My ggg grandfather was William Ransom Butts. He married Minerva Anderson around 1855-56. Minerva was daughter of Wm. and Elenor Anderson. Wm. was born in GA. Elenor was born in LA. They had 10 children altogether I think: Keziah, Minerva, Andrew, Rachel, Elenor, Mary, William, Robert, David W., Mahala.

I cannot find a marriage record for William Butts and Minerva. I am also trying to solidy my educated spectacular dedcution that this is the right anderson family for Minerva (the info I posted came from the 1850 and 1860 Cenus Records - William Butts also lived in Pickens county area of Alabama).

Can anyone help with this?

Shane Van Wey

Trying to find someone out there that can help me patch my butts line together. The census records have helped a little, but they have some discrepencies.

My g-g grandfather was Polk Lemuel Butts. He was born in 1859 in AL. His father was William Ransom Butts, born in 1822 either in AL, SC, GA, or VA? There is where the frustration begins! William Ransom was listed as Ransom on most Census records and was married to Minerva Anderson. The Ransom and Azariah names were used over and over in his decendency. With the name Ransom and Butts, I am wondering if he is tied somehow to the Ransom Butts line in NY. A long way awya from AL, but figuring with the name peculiarity, there must be some kind of a tie. Can anyone help? I can give more detailed information if needed.

Maude and Lois BUTTS BEMENT

I am researching my half-sister's father's family, and early on, have hit a patch of confusion.
Milo Edwin BEMENT, of the Chemung or Schuyler county area, appears to have married a Maude BUTTS, somewhere around 1905. I have only been able to locate Milo and Maude together in the 1910 census in Schuyler county. They had 2 children, as far as I know, Thelma (b: 1907) and Charles Lewis (b: 1909).
In 1920, Milo is living the single life as a boarder in Seneca county. No sign of Maude or the children. However, other sources have Milo marrying a Lois Eva BUTTS. I have located Milo's and Lois's graves in Chemung county. No sign of Maude.
I thought maybe Maude and Lois were sisters, and when one died, Milo married the other one. (Not uncommon.) But I have found Lois with her (apparent) first husband, Frederic, in 1900 and 1910 in Chemung county, along with THEIR children. Frederic died in 1912, and I know where HE is buried. Lois is listed as widowed in 1920, with 2 of her children (in Chemung county) and as married, living with a boarder, no children, in 1930 in Chemung. No sign of Milo.
I pride myself on accuracy, and it's driving me crazy that I can't figure out the "Riddle of the Butts". Does anyone have any ideas on Maude? Does she belong to any families you know? She was listed as age 21 in 1910.

Thanks in advance!
Roxanne Baird
