John Buys in the Revolutionary War

I am interested in any information about John Buys in Sodus, Wayne Co. N.Y. and his service in the Revolutionary war. I have an old book that states he is from Germany and the first one from his family to come to the U.S., but info from these boards suggests otherwise.
