Possible break on Abraham Byfield

I found information from a couple of Baltimore newspaper ads in 1788 that indicate Abraham came to the US from Ireland in July 1786 on the Greyhound. He was indentured to Reuben Meriweather, probably for four years. I've also found an ad from the postmaster in Washington, PA, in 1811 stating that he is holding a letter for Abraham Byfield there. This all seems to fit, but I'm still looking for more. See my pcarpenter tree for copies of what I found.

Benjamin H Byfield

I am trying to source Benjamin H Byfield as a member of Massia (Amassi) Byfield's family. I see that several people have him connected to Massia. I can't account for him in Massia's census records for 1830 or 1840. By 1850 Massia and family are in Illinois and Benjamin is married in Indiana. Does anyone have information that connects him to Massia's family?

Hi SallyJ

I'd love to touch base. I haven't got a lot of info on my grandfather, Bert Herman Byfield (Byleveld). My dad's name is Robert John Byfieldt born in 1935. I was born in 1956, eldest of 4 children.

Does this sound like a match...Karen

Hi Leslie-Ann Byfield. I have just begun this journey and have been lead to believe way back in the past that we may have a connection to the Byfield family. I haven't been following this line of thought and actually have no idea on this site at the moment how I got here. Are you able to contact please if you know how? Thank you Jan

Hi,
I'm looking for information about Byfields born in Jamaica also. I know my Grandfather's name was Donald Byfield born in 1915. He was one of 8 children. He was first married to Lousile Hinton, and then Maude Russel. My Great Grandfather's name was Benjamin Augustine Byfield and his siblings names were John, Edgar, Edith and Indie. Their grandfather was a scottish doctor.

Hi
I'm a Byfield too. I had an uncle "Vin" who I met several times in London where I was born.He was involved in property and I always remember his front gold tooth! My dads name is George and he is originally from Benbow/Guys Hill, Jamaica, but moved to Kingston later before coming to the UK.

Karen, I would love to see the pictures, I am the INGenWeb coordinator for two different counties and since your family was from them years ago that would be great my e mail address is Kfurballkell@aol.com

I was adopted as an infant and my adopted mother is my cousin but this line is in my birth family. Being adopted made me even more interested in my roots. You have very interesting ancestors and I can send you what I have via e mail. I do lots of this research and have some census records so we can track Fay.

Wow, very interesting and no you did not confuse me. I have some info I got from a guy that likes to do geneology and went as far back as "Abraham H. Byfield" I noticed he had my uncle down as my grandfather not Fay sooo I wasen't sure how acurate the findings he had down was. Tomarow I am going to be up in the town were my parent live and my father has pictures of his parents and his grandfather "Marion Byfield"(I am pretty sure) and some other photos I am thinking of bringing them home and scanning them would you be interested in looking at them? I am so excited that we conected. I tried to call my parents when I read your letter but they were not home. I know my dad "John" will be VERY interested. You see, Fay was 52 or so when my father was born I guess Fay had an other wife or wives and they all died giving child birth so my father was the first born. My grandma was "Gertrude Alice Rathbun" she was around 40 when my father was born she died when my mother was pregnant with me. So I have never met any of my grand parents except for one on my moms side. Fay died when my father was just 18. My dad had one brother "Robert Marion Byfield" he looked so much like Fay. He never married and had no childeren. he was a sicence teacher at shoreline High school. He died in 1979 of cancer. My father has 4 childeren I am the youngest at 39.
Sorry if I went on to long just getting things in perspective. Karen

Karen;

Yes, we have a connection. According to my records Fay Ora/Ora Fay (both ways in census records) was the son of Marion J. Byfield. Marion was born in Ohio in 1846 and died in Boise Idaho in 1907. Marion was the son of Amassi Byfield who was born in Ohio in 1802 and died in Kansas in 1880. Amassi Byfield was the son of Abraham Byfield born in about 1765 in Pennsylvania and died in Ohio July 28, 1817. Abraham's wife Patience Corbin died in Jefferson County, Indiana in 1837 and is buried there.I do have quite a bit on this family and they have been pretty heavily researched. I believe they moved west partially to avoid the issues of Slavery which they opposed. My ancestor married Sardis Henry Byfield who was a son of Benjamin H. Byfield. Benjamin was a brother to Marion J. who was the father of your Fay Ora Byfield. Hopefully I have not totally confused you with all this.

We are quite possibly very distantly related by marriage. Sardis Henry Byfield was born in 1855 in Indiana, the family is quite interesting. They were involved in Jennings County Indiana in the Neils Creek Anti Slavery Society. Mary "Polly" Hutchinson is my second cousin 3 times removed. I might be able to help you see if you are connected to this branch of the family tree. Let me check and see if I find a Fay Ora Byfield in my tree.

I have been pondering your dilema ;-)

And from the LDS Family search website I have found the following baptisms which all seem to fit.
The parents are Thomas and Sophia-so maybe that's who he married first?

EDMUND THOMAS BYFIELD
Christening: 09 SEP 1839 Saint Anne Soho, Westminster,

HANNAH SOPHIA BYFIELD
Christening: 11 SEP 1842 Saint Anne Soho, Westminster,

SOPHIA BYFIELD
Christening: 02 FEB 1846 Saint Anne Soho, Westminster,

And then this one whose parents are Thomas and Eleanor.

WILLIAM BYFIELD Birth: 17 APR 1850 Christening: 12 MAY 1850 St Giles Cripplegate, London,

And Pallotts Index has this baptism- don't know if the timespan works out as yours though?

Thos Byfield 1830 father Thos Byfield, mother Sophia Byfield. St. Martin In The Fields Middlesex

The best place for an inquest write up is the local paper.
I was extremely pleased with the help that the Westminster Arhives http://www.westminster.gov.uk/archives/ gave me when I was looking for an 1880 one. They photocopied the article and posted me it.They would no doubt email you if you told them you're not in the UK.

Hope all the above helps?

Carol

Byfield Information Help?

I am wondering if I could get some help looking up some information on my Great x3 grandfather Thomas/Thos Byfield.

I have been able to get his Death certificate from the GRO
and I have his sons William Byfield(my Great x2 Grandfather) marriage certificate that has Thomas as williams father on it.

When he died on the 11th of December 1890 in Hackney he was 83 yrs old
he was also a Baker. I have all the census's from 1851 onwards till 1881 for his family in 1851 they lived on Red Cross Square St giles Cripplesgate Middlesex. Then after that they lived I believe on 6 Margaret Street Hackney

I know that he married possibly Eleanor Bonney, in 1849 I am currently waiting on the certificate to arrive from the GRO but That will take at least 2 weeks to across the pond to Canada. I'm fairly confident that it wasn't Eleanor Chisten from 1838 in a different district because I can trace that family beyond the 1851 census.

Alright so with a little bit of the background filled in on with the questions

first I can't seem to be able to find a birth certificate for William Byfield I know he was born at Red cross Square because on one of the census's it says RedXsquare as place of birth he was born during the year of 1850 and when he died on the 13th of September 1898 he was 48.

Next is their any way of finding out information about who Thomas's fathers was? aswell as a birth record for Thomas.

On the 1851 census Thomas was married to Eleanor but their was also an Edmund Byfield living their but the age of Edmund and Eleanor where making me question if She was his monther because she would have been at most 16 yrs old and thomas around 30 something.(offhand I don't have the Image infront of me) after 1851 or 61 edmund dissapears completly off the face of the earth as far as I can find.

Thanks For all The Help

Ian Byfield
Then after that they lived I believe on 6 Margaret Street Hackney

I know that he married possibly Eleanor Bonney, in 1849 I am currently waiting on the certificate to arive from the GRO but That will take at least 2 weeks to arive across the pond to Canada. I fairly confident that it wasn't Eleanor Chisten from 1838 in a different district because I can trace that family beyond 1851 census.

On the 1851 census Thomas was married to Eleanor but their was also an Edmund Byfield living their but the age of Edmund and Eleanor where making me question if She was his monther because she would have been at most 16 yrs old and he around 30. after 1851 or 61 edmund dissapears completly off the face of the earth as far as I can find.

Thanks For all The Help

Ian Byfield

Hello Byfields,

My grandfather, Samuel Byfield, left Jamaica between 1880 and 1890, having traveled to Costa Rica. He remained in C.R. for a few years and fathered a son, my dad, Uriah Byfield, whose mother, also a Jamaican was Ada Walker, whom to the best of my knowledge was from Port Royal, Jamaica. Samuel, my grandfather, then left Costa Rica, working on merchant ships, and traveled to England, among other places. I understand that he had children in England.

The only other relative I knew was my father's aunt, Sarah Byfield, whom we believe was from St. Elizabeth.

I'm trying to trace our family tree to obtain as much information as possible about relatives.

Whatever you can do to help will be greatly appreciated.

Clarence A. Byfield, M.A.

I am trying to trace relatives of Carlton Byfield. I realise Byfield is a common name in Jamaica, but I am try to contact as many Byfields as possible as I need to contact the relatives of Carlton Byfield. Carlton moved to England years ago, but has relations still in Jamaica. If you can ask members of your family if they know of a Carlton Byfield or knew of his father Stamford Byfield, please could you get in touch with me.

Many Thanks
