Byfords of Iowa, Indiana, Pennsylvania

Would like info on relatives of John R. Byford. There are indications that some came from Indiana and Pennsylvania. Have not been able to go farther back than John in my family tree. My maternal grandfather was Francis Leo Byford, born in Missouri Valley, Iowa in 1898. He married my grandmother, Agnes Marie Moran, of Crescent, or Honey Creek, Iowa on Aug. 1, 1918. My mother was Jean Frances Byford, b. June 2, 1919. She married Edward Kotinek March 30, 1940 in Denver, Colorado. Any info would be appreciated.

Went back to Ark. around 1889 then went back to Texas, Montague Co. around 1891. I have more info but it is currently packed away in El Paso, TX. I am in CA. Hope to have it in a couple of months.
I have a ton of information on Houston Marion Byford and those who came after him. A packet was passed down to my grandmother from my ggrandmother and now to me. It lacks information about and beyond William Byford. I was wondering if you had ever found any information. Was he married to Mary Ann Farmer or Farrar? If you have any additional info on him and who his parents are I'd greatly appreciate it! My family tree, Nana's family tree, has the info on Houston Marion and his descendants.

Jeanette, I believe the Benjamin Byford you mention was probably my GrandFather's uncle . There was also another Benjamin Byford I found in my research , who was probably my GrandFather's cousin. My Great GrandFather was Aquila Byford, who was born in England and He had a Son named Benjamin, along with three brothers. The Brothers seemed to Name their Boys After their brothers, as there is another Benjamin mentioned In Rains County Texas in the Early 1900's. My Father Was William , and Aquilla had a Son Named William , and Another of his Son's named a Son William. There was about two or three Byfords with same given names.

Hi Kay, Thanks for the information . Samuel Byford was my great Grandfather's brother, who was also in Bosques County Texas about that time. They also had a brother Stephen, and my Great Grand Father was James, and my grandfather was also another Stephen, who lived with James in Bosque County until he married in 1878. Thanks again.

Harold Byford
hbyford1@aol.com

I am researching Samuel Byford, born in Georgia about 1809. He was married to Catherine Johnston. I have Samuel and wife in 1850 Lawrence County AL census living with Stephen Byford. Samuel died in Hamilton county TX in 1880's. Catherine Johnston Byford was my Husband's great-great aunt. I will share information on these families. Kay

The Stephen Byford you mention is an Uncle to the Stephen Byford that was married to Martha E. Byford, in Fannin County, Texas. The latter is my Paternal Grandfather and Grandmother. You will find that the Byfords frequently named their children after their Brothers. The Stephen you mention in Marion County, Alabama is the Son of Aquilla Byford, and Brother of John Byford, (my great grandfather) and Aquilla Byford was my Great Great Grandfather. Hope this helps you some.

I am sorry Shalina, but after I lost my Wife almost two years ago, I have given all the paperwork I had to my Youngest Son, and moved to Amarillo, Texas. An older Son, Hal Jr. has a lot of information and you may be able to contact him on Ancestry. It will be Harold Byford, Jr, and there has been some different exchanges between him and other individuals researching Byford name. Anthing I can give you from memory, I will be happy to do so. My grandfather and grandmother was Stephen Byford and Martha Elizabeth Surgener. He was born in Alabama in 1847, and she was born in Missouri in 1856..

Melissa, Will Henry Byford was my Father. Also, Stephen's Father was Aquilla, who was born in England about 1775, and Migrated to the US Around the early Eighteen Hundreds, I believe with Two Brothers .. I have never been able to find Aquilla's Mother's Name.(CORRECTION) AQUILLA'S WIFE'S NAME ..

How do I send you an invite? I see that somewhere along the line I have duplicate Byford names. Those things occur when I work into the wee hours and lose most of my reasoning ability.

Hi Cuz,

Now that you mention it, when I was working on this several years ago, I had changed Aquilla's birthplace from England to the US, perhaps Maryland. I think there's a second Aquilla. Bells are ringing. Is it possible there's an older Aquilla? I'm interested in whatever you have. Most everything I have has been entered into the Gentry Family Tree. Right now, I have Aquilla as coming from England.

Jo

Re: byford

OK, here is what was given to me: The oldest known Byford surnamed ancestor of Harold Lloyd Byford, Jr. thus located is Aquilla Byford, who immigrated from England to Georgia according to Ruben Fredrick Scott (deceased), stepson of James P. Byford, in the late 1790's or early 1800's. The first note of Aquilla Byford is in the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery: 1. Aquilla Byford, 738, single, Franklin Co., no land and 2. Henry Byford, 734, married, Franklin Co., no land. There are 6 more typewritten pages of information that include things like information on deeds, Georgia Tax Lists, marriages, and census records, 5 generations of children, etc. etc. etc. If you are interested, I can scan them and email them to you, but it sounds as if you have the same paperwork. I see two Harold L. Byfords listed; are you one of them? I have had good luck searching Georgia records, but I have never searched English records (just never went that far back yet), so I can't be of much help there. Again, I would be happy to send this information to you as I am sure that it absolutely does not refer to any of my Byford family.

I am a descendent of Aquilla Byford through your same line. My great-grandfather was Otha Lee Byford, the oldest son of James Preston Byford from his second marriage to Cynthia Burcham. I have some (not a whole lot) information that I would be willing to share. I am not totally convinced that he was born in England; I think he was born in Maryland. I still am unable to find who he was married to, but have his parents names. Let me know if there is anything else you might be interested in.

It's been a while since I worked on my Byford line, but I can tell you that I don't believe Aquilla Byford was one of my ancestors. There appears to be 2 or 3 Byfords who all came to Texas about the same time, but they don't appear (at least I have never found a connection) to have been related. My earliest Byford is John Alexander Byford, who is found in the 1950 census in what is now Madison County, Texas. I wish I could help you, but I never did any research on Aquilla beyond what was given to me by a family member.

Their third child Samuel moved to my area (Rugeley, Staffordshire), from Essex in about 1880ish. He worked as a miner and stayed in Rugeley where he married Elizabeth Hagar Hodkinson and had eight children. His son, James Harry, and his son Frank Harry (my Granddad) were born in Rugeley. I have lived there all of my life.

I have Samuel snr and Charlottes' children, Sams' siblings (some) and his parents and five generations of Turpins if that helps.

Hope to keep in touch with you.

Best regards,

Adam Garner, Rugeley, Staffordhire.
