The Phebe Coe who was the mother of Abby Byram was the sister of the Ebenezer Coe who I am trying to learn more about. Both Phebe Coe Byram and Ebenezer Coe were the children of Benjamin Coe and Rachel Prudden.

I would really like to know more about the Coe and Byram families and especially all about how they lived in Western Pennsylvania during and after the American Revolution.

It appears that Ebenezer bought land from Edward Byram. Some notes that I have about Ebenezer and Edward Byram include:

Ebenezer Coe born on: about 1736	at: near Morristown, New Jersey
died on: 25 July 1827	at: near Dalton, Wayne Co., Ohio

1761, Sept. 17	Ebenezer Coe married Eunice Jaggar at Morristown, NJ
- “Central Pennsylvania Marriages 1700-1896”, Compiled by Dr. Charles Adam Fisher, [F.I.A.G., Historian and Genealogist], Baltimore, 1974

1763, Mar. 12	Ebenezer Coe renewed covenant at Morristown, NJ, Presbyterian Church
- “Robert Coe, Puritan”

1778 April 2d “Received of Timothy Matlack Esq’r Commissions for the officers above mentioned.”
“A return of the field officers, captains and subalterns in the Third Battalion of the County of Westmoreland Militia commanded by Col.
To John A Byram. I do not know if this helps but Roy Mack Byram was also a medical doctor who resided in Midway city on 7752 E.Balsa Ave. We used to live there when my parent came back from the mission field. His speciality was TB and Bertha Byram was also a Med Dr. in pediatrics although she never practiced in USA.

Hi, My name is John A. Byram. I have written two books about the Byram family. I do not know where you could find a copy of "Prison Songs." The only Byram that I know that was in Japanese Imprisonment was "Roy Mack Byram, b.1893, a Presbyter4ian Missionary to Kangkei Korea to help build a hospital. In 1941 he was imprisoned by the Japanese. After Peral Harbor he was returned to the US in 1942, on the ship Gripsholm. I do not know if this is the man who wrote the songs.

An interesting event happened in about 1943. My fathers name is Roy M. Byram. He received a letter from LA, CA county and wanted permision to build a road across his land in LA. Our family never found out who the real Roy M. Byram was but it had to be your man, Roy Mack Byram.

Hi Susanne, I have sold my book "Byrams in America" to about 31 persons living in Connecticut and many many more to people living in New York state. I do not know what address would put them on the Byram River. I do not see any addres of Port Chester or Rye. It is a puzzle to me as to how the Byram River got it's name. The Byram family is an old New England family but I do not have any that lived that far south in New England. The WPA writers project has it that Indians came up the river wanting to purchase rum and called out Byram. Well ------
Bourbon Co, KY > Fleming Co, KY

I am going to post some more information to see if anyone on the list/BB has any information on the Byram - Byrum - Byrom surname or families living in Bourbon Co, KY, Fleming Co, KY and Mason Co, VA (later Mason Co, WV).

The Byram connection to my family is with a marriage to Moses Knapp (b abt 1764 in NY).
Anne BYRAM/BYRUM married Moses Knapp on/abt 7 JULY 1802 in Fleming County, KY.
They migrated to Mason County, VA (later WV) by 1810.
No children were born to this union, or none mentioned in Moses Knapp's 1860 will/probate.
I do not have a birthdate or death for Anne Byram Knapp, but her death was prior to his 1842 marriage to his final wife; Anne probably died prior to the 1840 census.

Moses Knapp's first known marriage was to Elizabeth Emmons in Bourbon Co, KY in 1792.

In transcribed tax lists for Bourbon County KY, I did not find any Knapp or Emmons but I did find several Byram men:

1787>Byram, Peter + Byram, William
1788>Byram, Peter + Byram, William
1789>Byram, William + Byuram, Peter
1790>Byrum, William
1792>Byram, Edward
1793>Byram, Edward
1795>Byrim, Edward + Byrim, Lewis
1796>Byrum, David + Byrum, Edward + Byrum, Lewis
1797>Byram, Edward + Byram, Lewis
1799>Byram, Edward

I am not sure if these Bourbon Co, KY Byram men had any connection to Anne Byram + Moses Knapp who married in Fleming Co, KY ???

Since families often migrated together, I am hopeful to find ancestry clues through other family connections.

Any information, clues or suggestions would be helpful and welcome.
Thank You,
Sandi
steeler271@aol.com

Christiana “Christina” Louisa BYRAM-MERRITT-WITHERS (1854-?)

Christiana “Christina” Louisa BYRAM was born May 4, 1854 in Illinois to Adam and Sarah [HAND] BYRAM. She was orphaned at the age of 13 and lived with various siblings in Illinois and Missouri until she married Van R MERRITT on July 25, 1885 in Olathe, Johnson County, Kansas. They had one son around 1886. Van died April 24, 1898. Christina then married a Mr. WITHERS between 28 FEB 1907 and 26 MAR 1909.

I am interested in determining when and where Christina died; possibly an obituary or burial site. Any additional information on her son (given name, birth date and place, death date and place) or her second husband Mr. WITHERS (given name, when and where he died, and when and where he married Christina) would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ginger, It is good of you to offer to shair your knowledge. I have the complete line from Victoria C. Byram back to Nicholas Byram who was born in england/Ireland in 1610 in my book "Byrams In America." We are cousins.

In the book I have that Alford W. and Sarah Jane Shook were both buried in Byram Cem on their farm near Belmont MS.

My g-grand parents, grandparents and parents are buried in a little cem in Decatur, NE. For years I too wanted to be burried back there but since writing the Byram book, well that book is my headstone and it can be there's too. A book will outlast the gravestones.

If you can scan and e-mail me photos of the Byram Cem. I can put them in the file. My files will be put in the Old Bridgewater Historical Society's building in Bridgewater Mass. when I die so they will be on record for the future.

My mail address is: John Byram, 6143 Paseo Pueblo Dr., San Jose, CA, 95120 if you wish to mail anything.
byramjohn@comcast.net

Sadly, I only know there was a William born to Sarah Wilson by the time of the 1850 Census in Monroe County, TN. I have no information regarding his specific age at the time of the Civil War or whether he was still living. I have gone on the presumption he was alive and might have been in the War and possibly survived it. However, William Wilson is so 'generic' without any further detail. I do not know who his father was either. I simply know that my ancestor, Sarah, was the mother of four, William being one of them.

Byram-Maxey, Pike County, GA

Seeking information on families of Clarissa Byram who married Jackson Maxey and Lucinda Byram who married John Maxey, both marriages occurred in Pike County, GA. Would like to know how the two families are related, if indeed they are.

Clarissa Byram said to be the daughter of Beverly Byram and Sarah Williamson but I have found no concrete evidence or proof to support this. The marriage of Clarissa and Jackson Maxey is said to be mentioned in the book, "The Maxeys of Virginia." I haven't seen the book. I have a copy of this marriage record from the book in the Pike County courthouse. They were married 29 Oct. 1834 by Malachia Lawrence, J.P. (Spelled Malachi in other references). Reference: Page 83 in marriage book covering 1834. Would really love to know who Clarissa's parents were and what the documentation is.

Another marriage in Pike County occurred 4 Aug 1836 between John Maxey and Lucinda Byram, performed by E.D. Re---g (?), J.P. (Marriage book covering 1836, page 124) Have no information on who Lucinda might belong to.

An interesting note is that in 1880 Blount County, Alabama, a John and Lucinda Maxey appear next door to Martha J. (Parker) and William Entrekin. Martha (Parker) Entrekin is the daughter of Martha Byram Parker (wife of John Parker) who was also the daughter of Beverly Byram and Sarah Williamson (evidenced by a story in Georgia Memoirs, written in 1895). Here is the Maxey/Entrekin census entry:(print VERY faded):

1880 Blount County, AL, Beats 22 & 8,
HH#273/273
...Maxey, John L., wm, 44, head, married, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Lucinda, wf, 43, wife, married, spins, SC, SC, SC
...Maxey, Rebecca, wf, 20, dau, single, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Idela T., wf, 17, dau, single, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Emma L., wf, 14, dau, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Talula T?, wf, 12, dau, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Sarah E., wf, 10, dau, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, William, wm, 7, son, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Charles A., wm, 3, son, AL, GA, SC
...Maxey, Hiram, wm, 22, son, married, GA, GA, SC
...Maxey, Catherine, wf, 18, daughter-in-law, AL, GA, GA

#274/274
...Entrican, William, wm, 34, self, (no occupation listed) GA, SC, SC
...Entrican, Martha (Parker), wf, 32, wife, GA, SC, SC (daughter of Martha Byram Parker, granddaughter of Beverly Byram)
...Entrican, Amos, wm, 14, son, GA, GA, GA
...Entrican, Ada C., wf, 11, dau, GA, GA, GA
...Entrican, Emma, wf, 9, GA, GA, GA
...Entrican, Nancy, wf, 7, GA, GA, GA
...Entrican, Mary, wf, 5, dau, GA, GA, GA
...Entrican, Albert, wm, 2, son, AL, GA, GA
...Entrican, James, wm, 4/12, son, AL, GA, GA

This John Maxey is too young to be the one who married in 1836 in Pike County, but the coincidence in proximity was too much to ignore.

Would love to know who these Byram girls and Maxey boys are, their parents and any other information anyone would care to share.

Many thanks in advance,

Judy Kilgore
Newnan, GA

Beverly Byram of Pike County, GA

Trying to find any information on Beverly Byrom who came to Pike County from Mecklenburg Co., NC, sometime before 1826. Beverly purchased land in the First District of Pike, Land Lot 174, from John Waid of Gwinnett County on 29 July 1826. This land is about halfway between Hollonville and the Flint River. He appears on a tax list in Pike in 1827 and on the 1830 and 1840 censuses. Beverly married Sarah Williamson in Mecklenburg on 13 April 1807. Sarah was the sister of Beverly's brother's wife, Hannah Williamson Byram, wife of James Byram of Coweta County.

Also am trying to find the relationship of a John Byram/Byrom who purchased land in 1823, same First District, but lots 181 and 182. These are right in the middle of Hollonville and my sister and brother-in-law own part of one of them. (How's that for a coincidence? Beverly is not our ancestor but is connected.) If Beverly and Sarah were married in 1807, and had kids the same year, the oldest would only be 16 in 1823 and not old enough to purchase land. So this John is probably not Beverly's son (unless Beverly was married previously to another woman). The only other known brother is James of Coweta. Would love to know who this John Byrom is.

Am trying to prove Beverly's children but can only prove two -- James (m. Louisa Webster), who was the only child named in his will (he mentioned other heirs and shows a bunch of kids in the census), and Martha, who married John Parker, and is mentioned in Memoirs of Georgia as being the mother of Henry G.Parker, the subject of a sketch in the book. Actually, she is called Margaret in the book but all censuses show her as Martha. Descendants confirm the name "Martha."

Other children mentioned by other researchers, but with no documentation or source, are:
John, b. 1809;
Mariah who married William Holland/Hollon;
Clarissa who married John Maxey;
Sara, and
Mary Phoebe who married James Dingler.
I have no clue where the names of these children came from but there are marriage records of all these people in Pike County. (I have copies of the originals if anyone wants one.) The children's names were found in a file on the private MyFamily.com Bethel UMC site (Coweta Co.) and sent to me by a descendant. There is no documentation on how someone came up with these names. This is what I would love to find.

In the 1830 census, Beverly's household shows 5 girls and 2 boys, in addition to the two older adults, male and female, which I am assuming are Beverly and Sarah. In 1840 there are only two older men, both age 60-70, in Beverly's household, and a big smudge in the age 70-80 female slot, so I don't know if Sarah was still there or not. There were no other persons in the household so the children all married or left home before 1840. Beverly made his will in 1849 and did not mention a spouse or name any children individually, except James.

If anyone has any information on where I can find proof and documentation of Beverly's children, or if anyone has more information ... anything ... on other members of this family, I would be extremely grateful. Beverly's family currently is the subject of a series of articles running in The Citizen, a newspaper in Fayetteville, Georgia (www.thecitizen.com). Any who contribute information will be given full credit. Several articles on the family of Beverly's brother, James Byram, ran several months ago.

Many thanks in advance,

Judy in Newnan, GA

I am Victoria C Byram and Robert Alexander Epps Ggranddaughter, Ginger Orick Barritt. The land has passed out of family hands now. I recently went back to the site of the cemetery which has been vandalized to the point where most of the headstones are missing. But I have access to the cemetery and will photograph what is left if someone would like for me to try to find someone. I do have a few pictures of the cemetery, but not really specific headstones. The headstones of Alford Byram and Sarah Jane Shook Byram, my ggrandparents are gone, but my father knows the spot where they are buried. The ground is sunken in that spot. When my father passes it will be only me who knows where these are.

Hi Clint, it looks like we may be on the right track. I will have to do some more checking but the puzzle pieces fit. There are 3 buildings in which James may have occupied. One rebuilt in 1880 (198), one rebuilt in 1885(206) and the other is one which I am a tennant of(200). I have not been able to find out so far if 200 George was a victim of the Windsor fires of 1874 - destroying nearly the whole town. I know the buildings either side did burn down. I have records that indicate the building was built in 1840 - but this could be incorrect, particularly as someone had mentioned 1856 when I first moved in. Cant remember who though. In any case I have old pictures of all 3 buildings which I will obtain original copies of and email them to you. At the moment I only have photo copies. It might be a nice addition to your collection. As I search however I am sure more information will pop up on your ancestors. I will be searching through the census records next I think and will take copies of any relevant findings for you.

It is all very interesting. If correct this is one of the oldest buildings in the area and nothing much has been documented about it. I'm having a bit of fun finding out.

If you would like to contact me directly, my email is nessiesatwindsor@bigpond.com. As I run my own shop it has been difficult to find the time to get back and do some research. I will do it, just a matter of when. I'll let you know as soon as I have anything.

Regards Vanessa

Hello, I dont know if you can help me or not but I thought I would send you a message just in case. I am not related to any one in your family. I am actually trying to research a building, located at 200 George Street Windsor. I am a tennant of one of the shops in the building and am having difficulty tracing the history.

I am of the belief that it may have at one stage been the business of a James Robertson Bryam, who apparently owned a chemist.(1856???) It was later home to the Hawkesbury Gazette. Perhaps this gentleman is a relative of yours?

Would love to hear from you if you have time. There is every possibility I am wrong with my information howver if right you may wish to add what I find to your family history???

Thanks and Regards Vanessa

Hi, I do have John Jefferson Byram in my book, "Byrams in America." I have very little information about John Jefferson, just that he died in the Battle of Fredericksburg. I have only one child listed so would like information on the other children.

John Jefferson Byram was son of Ebenezer Alden Byram, b.1781 in Morris County, NJ. Ebenezer was marrie to Eliza Burtsell and they had 14 children. Ebenezer's father was Joseph Byram, b.1753, Morris Co., NJ. Joseph wife was Esther Douglas. They had 13 Children. Joseph's father was Ebenezer Byram, b.East Bridgewater, MA. Ebenezer's father was Abigail Alden. Abigail Alden was the g-grand dau of John Alden and Pricilla Mullins. Then it goes back to Ebenezer Byram and Nicholas Byram, Jr. and then to Niclolas Byram who was born in England/Ireland in 1610 and was the first Byram to come to America.

The only child I have of Ebenezeer Alden Byram is John Alden Byram, b. 1856 in Brooklyn, NY. He married Harriet Francis Gregg. They had Sabra Maynord, 1883, Mary Clayton, 1885, Edna Pressy, 1888, Ida Alleson, 1893, Harriet Francis 1897. I have information on each of these girls in my book but the Byram branch stoped there.

My e-mail address is byramjohn@comcast.net. I would like to work with you to expand on the family of John Jefferson Byram.

William, My book was published in 1996, about 11 years ago. I do not know if the family member whose address I have are still living or at the same address if they are living. For the data that you requested I used were: Source #107, Mr. Ronald Byram; 1317 Hermes Ct.; San Diego, CA; 92154. Source #108, Mr. Charles Ray Byram; 16905; Hergstat Rd.; Silverton, OR; 97381. Source #116, Mr. Dennis Clark Byram; 3220 Armstrong Ct.; Coeur d' Alene, ID; 83814. Source #585 Mrs Eva Byram; 1043 190th Street; Waverly, IA; 50677. I would go to source #585 first. She is the youngest.

All I have about Arthur Ray Byram, after he was married is: "Arthur and Jennie lived near Waverly, IA. Arthur first farmed and later sold life insurance." Then I list their 6 children. Your Ivan C. is Ivan Chester Byram; Clarence E. is Clarence Earl; Merwyn R. is Merwyn Ray.

I do not find any connection with this family branch and the "Bryant's of New York."

The only "Moore" connection is Jennie Evelyn Moore (b.18 Jan 1881, Waterloo, IA, d.1 Feb 1955, d/o Naaman Moore & Caroline Bower.)

In addition I have the Byram history back to Nicholas Byram, born 1610, who came to Masss. USA in the 1630's. Ivan Chester Byram was nine generations down from Nicholsas Byram. There is a tie to the Rev War and to the Mayflower in this line. There is just too much to fill in. You may find my book in many genealoyg libraries or through the Morman Church or I will sell you a copy. byramjohn@comcast.net

Helen,

Have you been able to find the portraits of Ebenezer and Abigail? I do portraits as a side line, and mainly emphasize on the antebellum and Civil War era. I have done a few portraits of my ancestors from other photos of them. I too am a decendant of Ebenezer and Abigail Byram and if you can find the paintings, get good pictures of them, and I'll do you a hand colored set. If you want email me and I'll scan some of my work for you. Good luck!
Erik

Elizabeth Byram m John Hindmarsh Felton, Northumberland, England 1783

My great-great grandmother was Elizabeth Hindmarsh. She married Robert Waugh who was a blacksmith in Chesters, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Elizabeth was the daughter of John Hindmarsh, agricultural labourer and Elizabeth Byram (or Byron: two different spellings in the register for their wedding!): I am now trying to trace them. The Scottish 1841 census tells us that Elizabeth was born in England and there is a record of her parents marrying on 8th June 1783 in Felton, Northumberland. Unfortunately Northumberland seems to have stacks of John Hindmarshes - this one was "of the parish of Newburn"; and wrse, I've found two candidates for Elizabeth Byram, one born in Lesbury and one in Alnwick.

My only hope is that someone else from those families knows something: I think otherwise I've hit a brick wall. Any help welcomed.

Many thanks

Graham Simons

Hey Vanessa. My name is Clint Byram and yes James Robertson Byram is my great great grandfather who was a chemist in windsor 1855. The only information that I have about the building in Windsor is that James Robertson Byram handed over the business to his oldest son who was James Cooper Byram who sold the building in 1899. I'm pretty sure that my great great grandfather built that building in 1855 to 1857 when he arrived from New Zealand. My great great grandfather retired in 1901 and moved to Waverley. He died in 1910 at the age of 83 after my great grandfather was murdered by his wife and her boyfriend.
I know that this is not much information about the building but if you have any information about my great great grandfathers building, please email me.

Regards Clint

He and his sister were later abondoned by their mother, and one story is that they were first abondoned by their father vs. the other is that their father died in the war.
This William was supposed to have been scottish, and would have been born betw 1820's and 1840's.
Their mother was supposed named Belle Sayer?
Children were Odelia and William Byron. They were born in mid 1860's and ended up living in Devils Lake ND after being abondoned.
Later our William married a Murphy from the Dakota Territorya and then moved to nothern MN and had my grandfather there, along with many siblings.
thanks for any thoughts/help

Hi Susan

Thank you for including details re; your grandmother. I knew from letters and a photo that she'd moved to Australia, but I didn't know her married name or date of marriage.

James was affiliated for 73 years with the Brunswick Methodist Church, according to his obituary. I believe that he was an organist at the church, but not the minister; he worked in the leather trade. He was remarried in 1932 to Bertha Elizabeth DAVIES; I don't believe that there were any children from this marriage.

Do you have /need any further info on the rest of James children, or his parents and grandparents?

Lesley

Look Up Request--Byram's in America

Thank you John. That sounds like quite a book. I would have to wait until I saw it in a library. Do you know of any descendants of Arthur Ray Byram and how I may contact them? I am very interested in a copy of the photo of the couple and the short paragraph on the immediate family for my Moore family collection.

One thing in particular I wanted to find out was what town in New York the Bryants came from (Hattie Bryant, daughter of Sardins Bryant and Annis Brown). I would like to figure out if they are related to the other Bryants who were in Bremer County.
