Richard Byrd signed a will on March 5,1803 in Hawkins Co, Tn in which he named children; Charles, James, Mary, Elizabeth, Richard, Michael, David, and John. Believed to be children but not mentioned are Minister William Byrd who married Lydia Adair, Jane/Jean Byrd who married Randolph McDonald, and Ann(Nancy) Byrd who married David Day Sr.
My gggg-grandfather, Michael Byrd, Richard's son is buried in Marshall Co, Ms in what is known as the Byrd Cemetery an abandoned private cemetery located in Section 31 of Township 4 South of Range 3 West of the Chickasaw Meridian. His tombstone states he died November 2, 1857 in his 70th year of age. I list his birth as 1784/1787 in Tn. He is listed on the first Marshall Co tax roll of 1836. He apparently came here after 1830 when he is listed in the Franklin Co, Al census.
Michael married Patsy (Sally or Polly) Logan daughter of Thomas Logan on July 11, 1810 in Madison Co, Alabama. The 1820 Franklin Co, Al census for him indicates she had died and by the 1830 Franklin Co census he had remarried (about 1820/1822). Buried beside him in Marshall Co, Ms is his wife Jane Byrd born abt 1800 in Georgia, died April 10, 1866.
One of Michael’s sons, John married into the Chickasaw Nation and his grandson William Leander Byrd was Governor of the Chickasaws in Oklahoma from 1888 to 1896. I have never been able to figure out the connection between Michael and Leander Guy who Michael named children after. Leander was also in the Militia in North Alabama with Michael and also moved to Marshall Co about the same time Michael did.
I have a list of 409 descendants of Richard and his wife Elizabeth Buster. Would love to have any other info you might wish to share on this family.
