The Byrd Family from Oklahoma, Texas, TN

I am trying to find information on the Byrd family and relatives. My dad's grandfather was Willie J Byrd (1876-1935) married to Luvica J Sailing. Their children were Betty, Marion, Mary Jane, James, Cleo and Lucinda. I believe his father was William Byrd (1850-1935) married Rebecca Jones. William's father was John Byrd married a Cynthia Delph. Not sure if this is correct and if so who is John's father. HELP!!!

My Grandfather was Sam Byrd. I don't have much information about him, however, I believe he left Mississippi and moved to Chicago,IL, in the 40's or 50's. He was married to my grandmother, Daisy Grace Byrd, from Lexington, MS.

Maybe a Relative,
Vera Travis-Smith

The info I had was copied from the the folder I received from the library's genealogist. It was listed under Joseph Bird, but the folder said Bird/Byrd, which is why I included both names. The reason I was looking there is because Blount County's courthouse has some war memorials placed in front of the courthouse and I saw a John Bird in the Revolutionary War and a Bird on the Civil War Memorial. I would not be surprised if it was spelled Baird, Beard, Byrd, Bryd, or Burd. The spelling in those days seems to be based on the abilities of the writer. Patti

I am hoping someone with a paid subscription might be able to help me. Due to the economy I can no longer maintain one and may have a find of some worth.
While visiting Blount County public Library's genealogy section I found this and would appreciate someone checking it out and letting me know something. The following is the information I have.
There was a Joseph Bird/Byrd who was living in the part of Tennesse that was NC. That became Grainger Co., later part of it was split into Anderson Co., then Campbell Co., then Scott County. Joseph had a land grant and this is what the records say:
Joseph Bird/Byrd-1794, 100 acres, North District, Book 9, page 106, grant #178, Eastern District, on first bottom above the mouth of Big Buffaloe on the North side of Clinch River.

This same record also mentions a William and Jesse Bird/Byrd living near him in Scott County, TN. They had their own land grant listed much later in 1847, 500 acres, Eastern District, Book 28, page 236, grant #27109. These are from the Land Grant Books of North Carolina. Any help would be appreciated. Patti Skorski

Henry was born in Orangeburg, SC 1805 and died 1862 in Mize, Ms. Its likely the family moved from SC to Al (Mobile) after 1819.
Heather,
I have been looking for proof that Bryant Byrd was Jesse S. Byrd's father. Kenneth Byrd has a lot of information on the Stewart County TN TNGENWEB site. I found a document on Napolleus D. Byrd that confirms that Bryant was ND's father and that he had 12 brothers and sisters who had died prior to the article. Bryant died in Yell Co, AR prior to 1860. According to other researchers, Bryant's wife Sarah ROSS was part of the Ross and Byrd families who were missionaries to the Indians, however I haven't been able to confirm Indian Blood in our ancestry. I believe our blood line can be traced back to John Byrd - Rebecca Sutton in Albermarle NC, but there are a lot of gaps.

The name "Evelyn" makes me think that ancestors might be William Evelyn Byrd II of Westover Plantation in Charles City, Virginia. He wrote those "Nasty" diaries from 1705 to 1741. His daughter Evelyn Byrd died of a broken heart at Westover and is said to haunt the place. He founded the city of Petersburg Virginia. My ancestor John Oliver, Jr. married an Elizabeth Byrd and they settled in Petersburg, Virginia but I can not connect her to William Byrd. John Oliver, Jr was born in York County, Virginia where the father-in-Law, ??? Parke was from. I know that Elizabeth Byrd and William Byrd II were born around the same time frame but William Byrd I is not shown with a daughter named Elizabeth, but I know they are related. If anyone has any info, Please HELP.

Sandy
