Surname: Byrns, Jackson, Speares, Long
Our school, Jo Byrns was named for Congressman Joseph Wellington (Joe) Byrns who served for 14 years in the House of Representatives in the US Congress. We are trying to trace and record his genealogy. The known facts are that he was born on July 20, 1869 to James H. and Mary E. (Jackson) Byrns of Cedar Hill, Tn. He had 5 siblings of which he was the oldest. We would like the names and families of his siblings. His grandparents were Miles J. and Sallie (Speares) Jackson and John and Elizabeth (Long) Byrns. The Byrns family came to Tennessee from N.C. as did many other settlers. If you can contribute to our efforts please email me with any information.
Limited information that we have to date is that James H. ( Joseph's father) had 4 brothers named Bass, Ed, John and Albert. This is "I think" information and not proven. James H.'s father may have been John Byrns.
We are looking for brothers, sisters and their families in addition to the ancestors of Joseph Wellington Byrns.
Thank you for any information you may give to us.
