I have an original carte de visite photograph of “William Byrns – Detroit, Mich.”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1865-1866, and he looks to be about 4 years old. The photo was taken at the time 2cent revenue stamps were placed on the backs of the photos.

I found William Byrns in the 1880 census for Ovid (Branch Co.) MI, and he was 17 yrs. old, the son of Francis and Mary Byrns. In the 1910 census, he was William H. living in Detroit, age 49, and he’d been married for 20 yrs. of wife, Louise, age 43.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to William Byrns.

There are no other Byrns' in Buffalo New York aside from my cousins and I. If anyone has any information. Please email me. There are all kinds of Burns, Byrnes , even O'Byrnes but no Byrns? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Edward Byrnd would have had a birth date somewhere around 1900-1910.Thanks

The Kansas room in the Hays library has information on the Cochran family. My wife and I spent about 5 hours there last week. My Mother was Ethel's first child. She had six in all. I think John has traced the Byrns family history back quite a way. It looks like there is a branch of the Cochran family in Erie, Kansas. Let me know if any of this helps.

D'Agnant / Byrnes link in New York City c.1891-1913

In researching my Byrnes family history, my cousin has come across a Dagnant buried in 1913 in our Byrnes Family plot in New York City. This plot was bought by my great-great grandfather, Claude Edward Byrnes, in 1891. We cannot figure out the relationship quite yet. If there is anyone who has these family names from 1891-1913 linked (or even singly but with times and places matching) in their history, I would welcome any information you may share. The places are Queens NY, New York (Manhattan) NY, Cleveland Ohio before 1890, and possibly French Canada between 1864 and 1881.

Hello,

What a surprise to see your notice! I haven't done research lately on my great grandfather, Henry A. Byrns, but just typed his name in today while looking for other US veterans' records to support information on a document.

I have located some information in the National Archives about Henry's service record aboard the "Bermuda". I remember talk of his Civil War service and do have what I think is a photo of him around 1900. He lived in Somerville, MA after the war.

I would very much like to see the photo you have. If you have the ability to scan it and e-mail it to me I would be most appreciative.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Erica Dodge

Hi. My name is John (Jack) F. (Francis) McCourt jr. Originally from the Boston, MA area (Brighton, MA specifically). My family currently lives in Kennesaw, GA. My father's name was John Francis McCourt (born in 1924 in Brighton, MA) and his father (born approx. 1895 in Malden, MA) was Walter Francis McCourt. Francis is apparently a common name among Irish families. That is about as far back as I have been able to track my family history. I have always wondered if we had some connection with Frank McCourt (Angela's Ashes). Perhaps he is a Francis as well. Do you think? In any case, love to know if their are any relatives out there. I understand that my Irish ancestors (on the McCourt side) hail from County Kerry in Ireland and on my grandmother's side (maiden name Walsh) come from County Cork. Love to hear from anyone who counld shed light on McCourt genealogy.

Jack

McCourt family

Hi Ursula, I haven't forgotten about you - just haven't had time to work on this family history stuff too much lately. I will try to get a list together for the information I have on Hugh McCourt real soon. Since we e-mailed last I have a copy of the gravestone inscription for the McCourt family in Banbridge. I believe this is from the Banbridge Roman Catholic Graveyard. It says:
O'Neill (polished granite in low railed enclosure) In loving memeory of William O'Neill who died 3rd September 1876. And of his wife Eliza O'Neill who died 20th May 1880. Wilhelmina McCourt grandchild, died May 1879. Also Sarah McCourt who died 5th June 1904 aged 57 years. Also Bridgid, grandchild of above Sarah McCourt, died 1st march 1926. William and Elizabeth McCourt. Also Henry McCourt. May they rest in peace. (The will of Elizabeth O'Neill, late of Drumnagally, county Down, widow, who died 20th May 1880 at same place, was proved at belfast 23 may 1881 by James maquire of Banbridge in said county, merchant, one of the executors. Effects under L22.)
The Henry mentioned at the end is my grandfather's brother. William is Henry's son and Elizabth McCourt's maiden name is McQuaid. William and Elizabeth died fairly young ~ 1928 leaving a very young family of 6 children, who were raised by their grandparents. I have no idea who the rest of the people are or how they are related.
What does the F. stand for in your John F. McCourt's name?? My dad's name is David Francis and we always wondered where the Francis came from since all the kids seem to have been named after relatives.
We just may have a connection somewhere between our families!! I'll get back to you soon with the other info. Take care. Kathy

I am working on my family history and have hit a wall on the Byrns branch of my tree. My Great Grandfather Chester Robert Gains married Sarah J. Byrns in Ashley, Ill. on September 2,1900. Sarah was born in Paris or Delta County, Texas on January 21,1880 and her father was George W. Byrns and a census record shows him in Missouri with a younger Sarah and her mother was Lou.

I was just taking a shot that because you are working on Byrns in Missouri you might have run across George W. Byrns in your searching. I am out of Colorado and if you have something please email me at jcgains@aol.com. One other thing is that George W. Byrns was a policeman.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
