Father of Phoebe Cabbage, b. 1800, Grainger, Tenn., is John Cabbage, b. 1758. I have no information on her mother Grandparents are Heinrich Kabbis, b. 1730 in Germany, and Anna Maria Kabbis, b. 1730 in Germany. Obviously name changed from Kabbis to Cabbage, perhaps on arrival in America.

I am the daughter of James T Hendrix. I note that you say Trolland, but he spelled it Trolen. I wonder which is right. I am interested in any info that you have. I was just recently contacted by Justin Hendrix, son of John Valpo Hendrix son of Esco and Mary Ruth. He is very interested in the family history. My email is iowa470647@msn.com

I am not sure if you still check this board but if so, it may be a stretch, we may be distantly related. My Great Grandfather was a Ananias Rissanen and he too immigrated to Canada in 1905. His father had the same name and was the son of Jafet Rissanen. I am not sure where which farm/village Jafet was from but both annanias's were from Pielavesi, Kuopio, Finland. When my Grandmother passed I found letters, pictures with the name petter (note on letter said my grandmothers 2nd cousin) and Eino, and a few newspaper obituaries matching some of yours. Please respond to deannastover@hawaii.rr.com
Thank you,
Deanna Stover

E-mail to the address you gave was returned.

I descend from Adam Cabbage (1755 – 1844); John Cabbage, II (1789 – 1884); Henry Sylvester Cabbage (1821 – 1865). Your Lucinda is a sister of this Henry Sylvester.
Henry’s wife was Amelia Elizabeth Moore (1825 – 1910).

I have the data for Lucinda’s children. You probably know Lemuel’s middle initial is T. I have had his last name as Womack, without the “s” at the end.

My line goes on through Jonathon Wiseman Cabbage (1860 – 1960) who is my grandfather.

If you need or wish any of the data back to Adam Cabbage, I’ll be glad to share.
I have not been able to be certain as to who Adam’s parents are for sure. Some believe Henrich Kappis. His Rev. War records show he was born in Chester Co, PA, but enlisted from Shendandoah, VA.
Hi,

I am doing research for my husband's family, and it appears that Lucinda Cabbage & William Lloyd Stevens are his gggg-grandparents. They had a daughter Nancy Jane Stevens who married Lemuel Womacks. Nancy & Jane had a son Chester Clyde Womacks who married Inez Mills (who we know nothing about). Chester & Inez had a son, Glenn Womacks who is my husband's grandfather. Glenn married Cleopal Calaway who is still alive in WV. If anyone has any more information, date, places, etc. please email at twoinluv@swbell.net

Thanks,
Jenny Moore
817-490-1975
twoinluv@swbell.net

I believe one of my ggg-grandmothers was one of the unknown daughters of John Cabbage. My ggg-grandmother was Anna (or Annie) Cabbage b. 1806 in Grainger Co., Tennessee. She married William Capps b. 1802 Chatham Co., NC. Twice she and William lived near Arnold Cabbage, first in Vigo Co., Indiana and then in Keokuk Co., Iowa where they lived next door. I believe Anna and William followed her brother Arnold to Iowa. Anna died in 1864 and is buried at Rock Creek Cemetery in Keokuk Co., Iowa, as is William, 4 daughters and one son.

She and her husband, William Capps, moved from Vigo Co., Indiana to Keokuk Co., where the Cappes remained. At one point, they lived next to Arnold's family (according to census data). I would be interested in hearing more about the possible siblings of that generation.
I am not related to any of the Cabbage famlies but I saw one of your inquires while looking around on the message boards the other day. It didn't happen to be this particular message, but one that you stated that you were looking for information on the Cabbage or Cabage families. I am a life member of the Union County Historical Society, which is located adjascent to Knox County Tennessee.
Suzanne,
I messed up my whole computer system, so I don't know what I told you, if anything. My husband, John Verlin, is your mother's first cousin, so your first cousin once removed. We aren't worried about parentage, your forefather John Cabbage (your Adam's grandfather) did not have a named father. Would love to have you join with us. If you come to Tn stay a few extra days and we will take you around to see the relatives. If you e-mail me at jv-ma-cabage@worldnet.att.net, I'll tell you all about the family. Adam McDonald is buried at Milan Baptist Church in Union Co., TN. Paul and Clifford's wives are living, Trula has one daughter living. We met Marion and Nola years ago in Lenior City area and tried to get them to come to the reunion, but they never did. We never met your Mom, Marion, but heard she was a nurse. Let me know your direct e-mail address and we will correspond.
Mary Anne
Dear Mary ann,

Surely, slow is fine, I understand .
I have one last important question.
Well I think I already asked
about the books, do you sell them
for each year ,,,or do they come
with membership dues yearly.
I want them.

I was shocked to find out that
Adam had sons. Paul Cabage,
Clifford Decatur Cabbage,
Trula Melvina Cabage , mother was
Bertha,
If they were Adam Mcdaniel Marion
Cabages sons and daughters,
that would be half brother
and sister of my mother and then
Aunt and Uncles to me , if I am right ?

I would like to say hello to those
people if they are alive.
Or if they would like to say Howdy to me.

And he had a few brothers and sisters too.

Thanks and take your time , no hurry
whatsoever on this .....:)
God bless you ..... Suzanne Marie

Ps, I guess my mom never wanted to come
to the reunions because she felt
everyone would put her down cause
she had a child out of wedlock
, but that was in 1959, this is
2000....big difference. I see
the name Hendrix alot on this board.
My mom married a Fred Amos Hendrix
that lives in Lenoir city, but
divorced him, that was my name growing up,
my last name.
I wish I was there, I should have just
went. But my mother and my aunt both
are so ashamed of me being born out of wedlock, they would have not have gone.
and I didn't want to hitchhike . LOL .
I was 18 then, Now I'm 40. And not in
good health. I found out the reunion this
year is june 29th, I think, anyone
have the exact address and town.
Judy also told me John and his wife post
to this board, if so Hello.
My mother is Mildred , daughter of Adam
Marion Mcdaniel Cabage. I am Nolas
granddaughter . I was sent 2 books
of Cabbages and I was so happy, I cried.
I saw my Granny when she was young.
and so beautiful and all kinds of people
that I have never met. and I see
alot of them lived within a mile
of where I grew up, and yet I never
got to meet any of them. I wonder if I could
have had a family that loved me. Or
maybe someone might have needed my help ,
and I could have helped them. Life is short.
Family is precious . If God is willing,
I might come to this reunion. however
I live in Oregon . and thats a long way.
God bless all,
Suzanne Marie

James' first wife was Elsie Mason, Elsie was from Nebraska. They were married 30 Sept 1911. I had your name and address but not your mother. I have all of the information from Mary Perry Hendrix line from Mary, Neal (Ina), Alfred, and Ernest. We live near their old home place. Mary was my father-in-law's first cousin. If you would like to share your Hendrix info, you can send it to me and I will put it in a folder at the Roy Acuff Museum in Maynardville. My e-mail is jv-ma-cabage@worldnet.att.net.

James Hendrix married three times, I don't know the first 2 wives, his third and final wife was Leanora Hoag in 1940. They had one child Nollie Jeanette born in 1936. She (myself) had four children, Russell Eugene, Susan Kathleen, Scott Allen and Loreilie Kay born Sue 1956, Russ 1960, Scott 1963 and Lori 1965. All living. Nollie married Roger Edward Mohr in 1955. I would like toget this information to the proper Hendrix database, but I don't know how to go about it. John Hendrix had three sons with Mary. John Esco, Alfred, Charles. Alfred had three sons and a daughter with Ina O'neill (maiden name ?) Howard, Rush, Alfred Jr. and Peggy. Peggy died in her 20's. The only living child of Alfred is Howard who is 66. Peggy had one child Douglas. Robert Hendrix had no children. JOhn Esco had one child Val who passed away in his late 20's I believe. He had one child. I can probably get more accurate information from Howard if you are interested. Alfred's wife Ina passed away last week.

Re: Grainger County Cabbage

Holly:
Jacob was the son of John Cabbage, b 24 Feb 1758 in Chester, PA, d 8 Jan 1852 in Grainger, TN. John was a Revolutionary War veteran. I have his war and pension records. The name of his wife is unknown. He had a number of children. I am descended from one of his sons, Alexander Cabbage. His other children were John Cabbage, Jacob Cabbage(your ancestor), Phoebe Cabbage, Arnold Franklin Cabbage, Elizabeth (Betsy) Cabbage, and two other daughters that I don't have names for. I have dates and spousal names for most of them. Beyond that, I don't have anymore on Jacob, But I have a complete history of my ancestors from Alexander. I hope this helps.

My husband is a descendant of Jacob Cabbage, b. approx. 1794. He m. Frances Bolton, b. approx. 1798, Feb. 7, 1818 in Grainger County, TN. They had a daughter, Jemima, b. December 18, 1832, who married Alexander McPhetridge Oct. 19, 1854. Does anyone have any additional information on these Cabbages? (Other children of Jacob on the 1850 census include Russel and Perlina) Who is Jacob's father, and where was Jacob born? Thanks.
