Dear Daughter of Wellington Cabezas and Sonia Perez. I was a very good friend of your father, Wellington. He was also known as Carlos Perez. I met him in the Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1986 and we became friends. At the time, your brother Giani was a little boy of about 3-4 years old. I am a paralegal and I was serving time for forgery when I went to jail. Yor father and I became friends and I wrote an appeal of his federal conviction for which he had received 15 years in a federal court in Houston, Texas. He also had 7 years from a New Orleans court. I worked on that case also, and there was also another situation about your little brother. Giani had fallen from a second story balcony in the St. Bernard Housing Development and was injured and placed in a body cast. Your father was concerned that a woman who had befriended Sonia was attempting to get custody of some money which the Housing Authority of New Orleans had awarded to Giani for his accident ($80,000). The woman had filed a petition for Dative Tutorship, meaning that if she got custody of Giani, she would have controll of the money as well. I successfully wrote the opposition for your father and because we won his federal appeal, the woman was not permitted custody of Giani or the money. Yor father was transferred to a state prison to finish the remaining two years of his state sentence. We had planned to get together when I was finally freed, but I spent another 7 years in prison before getting out. I also looked for him, asked other Colombians that I knew (in 1994) to no avail. I searched the internet, unsuccessfully, by Googling his name. Every so often I've thought of him and Googled his name. It wasn't until today, more than 20 years after I last saw him, that I Googled his name and found your message that you were looking for your family. I am sorry to learn that "Carlos" was deported and then murdered. I am very sorry to learn that. He was as good a friend as anyone could have. I must tell you that "Carlos" was a very religious man who read the Bible daily and encouraged others to do the same. He had his troubles in life, with the law, but he was a good guy who I will always miss dearly. I realize that your internet message was posted in 1994, and you may not receive this message from me. But just in case you do, please let me know. Also, I was concerned last year when I watched the news on TV and learned that a young man named Giani Perez was killed in New Orleans. He was about the age that your Giani would be. I am unaware of whether this was him, but I hope it was not. Please advise. It is my understanding that your mother passed away in New York during the time that your father was in jail in New Orleans. Please reply. I sincerely hope that you will be successful in finding your family. If I can be of any help, please tell me.
I am a 51-year-old African-American male residing in New Orleans, and your father was a very, very dear friend to me while we were incarcerated. Since my release from prison in 1994, I have changed my life tremendously. I had hoped for years and years that "Carlos" and I would someday reunite and be friends in the free world. Nicanor Viñas Cabezas, nació en Andavias, provincia de Zamora, España. El pueblo esta situado aproximadamente a 16kms de Zamora, la capital de provincia. Es un pueblo agrícola y ganadero en su totalidad, se halla junto al embalse del río Esla, afluente del río Duero. Nicanor era de oficio agricultor – Señas: raza blanca, de cabello negro y ojos pardos, estatura 1m 582 centímetros, llevaba aire marcial; fue muy buen trabajador. Partió del puerto de Cádiz, España en el barco de correo “Antonio López” el 30 de agosto de 18__. Iba destinado a Cuba, pero en el viaje le fue tan mal, que desembarco en Puerto Rico el 13 de septiembre con el Batallón de Infantería de Valladolid y allí quedó. Se separó del ejercito en 1875, y nunca volvió a España.

Datos recopilados de los libros parroquiales por el Reverendo José Maria Casado Salvador quien es párroco de dos parroquias una en Andavias y la otra en La Hiniesta, Zamora, España.

--1847 -- nace la segunda hija. Doña Juliana Viñas Cabezas quien se casa con Don Juan Manuel Serrano, de Valdeperdices, provincia de Zamora, España”. Tienen dos hijos: Don Casimiro y Doña Leonor.

--1854 – nace Don Demetrio (hombre jovial y dicharachero) se casa con Doña Mauricia Álvarez, tuvieron cinco hijos:

Narcisa Vinas Rodriguez de Izquierdo was my aunt. Her mother Lorenza died giving birth. My grandfather remarried my grandmother Norberta.

Narcisa Vinas y Rodriguez de Izquierdo was my aunt. She had nine siblings. My grandfather Nicanor married twice. When Lorenza Rodriguez died giving birth, he remarried my grandmother in Trujillo Alto Puerto Rico.

I've written on this message board before trying to find my family and I am updating my info. I am the oldest daughter of Sonia T. Perez from the Bronx, NY and Wellington H. Cabezas from Colombia. I was born in Dec. 1982 in Oregon. My brother Wellington, Jr. was born in Jan. 1984 in TX. My baby brother Giani was born in Jan. 1986 in New Orleans, LA. My father was in prison for a few years in New Orleans, LA but in April 1994 he was deported back to Colombia and murdered a year later. I have an unlce in California but no info on him yet. I have a maternal grandmother named Cecilia Perez in the Bronx. She has been living in an NYC shelter for 40+ years and does not know any english. I have no way of finding her.
