Yes, I heard some of that info from several people, however I did not know about Rebecca's house (we probably saw it then!) Any time we're on a trip if I see an old cemetery I make my husband stop so I can take pics and post a list to relevent Boards. I know I'd love it if someone did that with my ancestors in Virginia.

Sandy, you've probably heard by now that this cemetery in Cades Cove is the Cable Cemetery. Rebecca "Becky" Cable donated the land in front of the cemetery for the Cable School, which was also used as a church and for funerals. Her house is located near the Visitor's Center in the mill area. Glad to see you took photos of this cemetery while you were there. It's a beautiful spot.

Casper's daughter Sarah (Sally) was my g-g-grandmother; she married Cornelius Bowman, one of their sons was George "Wash", father of my grandfather, Robert Lafayette.
Robert married Carrie Lee Moreland, my dear grandmother, and their son Warren was my daddy. I live in Maryville, TN, near Cades Cove, where some of Casper's children and descendants came as pioneers in the Smokies.

I'm a direct descendant of Kasper Goebell/Casper Cable. Our information is also that he was a Hessian soldier, from Hanover, Germany, and that he settled in TN and changed his name.
I don't want to read too much into "hyderandy." However, my grandmother and old Casper's descendant, was Martha Miranda Anne Hyde Shelton. Guess what she was called
before her marriage: Randy Hyde.

I wish to make a few corrections to my last post after having read the section in the book again. The name of the book is "Hazel Creek From Then Until Now". Kaspar Goebell was a Hessian retained by the English. After capture by Washington's forces, he escaped and rejoined his unit in the area of Charleston. Later, he turned to the side of the Colonials, changed his last name, married and moved to TN.

I recently visited Cade's Cove with my wife. I purchased a book while at the Smokey Mountain National Park, "Hazel Creek, Then and Now" by Duane Oliver. In the book, he states that Kasper Goebell, later Cabel, later Cable was a Hussian retained by the English to fight the Colonists. Captured in 1776 by Washington's forces, he then turned to the side of the Colonists, changed his name a couple of times and settled in TN. He is father of my great-great-great grandfather, Samual Cable 2nd to settle at Hazel Creek. My other g-g-g grandfather, was 1st to settle at Hazel Creek, Moses Proctor. My brother has the family tree pretty complete back to this generation.

Hi bruce. I think we corresponded many years ago about the Cable family. I have put my Cable family info on both Roots Web and ancestry and have filled in some gaps but still cannot find anything on the Cables past William. According to a man who is researching Martha Brooks who was Alva Cable's wife his parents were Stephen and Chloe Sturges Cable. This may be true but Stephen went to Ohio in about 1812 when William would have been just a teenager. It could be that Stephen and was an uncle to William and that Alva was James F's great uncle although I have never seen him referred to in that way. Just thought I would touch base with you again. Found a picture of my mom and Harry Cable Jr taken in 1926 on the Mackinac Board walk. If you would like a copy please respond to this.

My great uncle Clyde is Walter Cable's brother. Walter was the son of Felix Cable, son of Apollis. Clyde claimed to the family before death that Apollis was Cherokee Indian, though I have no written or visual method to prove this yet. Can anyone confirm?

Have we found anything on John, Apollis's father? I can't find any info besides being born 1821 in Pa (1850, 1870 census) He also resided in Bullskin Township, Pa in 1850 (1850 Census). Also lived in Tyrone, Pa n 1870 (1870 census).
I have his wife being Margaret Zimmerman, married in 1845.

Any info on parents and birth and death dates?

I have no ideal when her book will be ready to publish. My sister-in-law lives in Gray which is between Kingsport and Johnson City just off I-26. The reunion takes place in North Carolina just a few miles past the state line on US 19E. The reunion site is about 1¼ hours from Kingsport. A group meet on Friday and visit cemeteries. Saturday we meet for lunch at the Cranberry Community Center located where I-19 E and 194 split. If you want to send a phone number via private email I will talk to Marie and if you are interested have her call you. She will be interested and can give you the name of a Cable cousin who lives near Cades ove and come to the reunion almost every year.

Howard graduated from Lawrence Park High School in 1950, and Gannon College with an accounting degree in 1960. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an accountant with Uniflow. He was a member of the Seibenbuerger Club, the East Erie Turners and the Zukor Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen A. Cable. I did find a 1920 census: Alcoa, Blount Co. TN which lists:

Cable, Joe C. head age 35 born NC
Annie wife age 28 born TN
Tracy O. son age 1 yr 4 mo born TN

1930 is same city, county & state:

Cable, Joe head 44 born NC as were his parents
Annie wife 34 born TN both parents in NC
Tracy son 11 TN
Wendell son 10 TN
Joan dau 6 TN
M. L. son 5 TN
Marcel dau 3 TN
John Mark son 11 mo TN

It also tells us that Joe was 32 at first marriage & Annie 22. Joe was a barber by trade & had no military service. However, I did find Joe's WWI draft reg. card. His name was actually Joel Columbus Cable. He was born Oct. 24, 1884 & lists nearest relative as wife Annie. It also lists occupation as barber & they lived in Marysville, Blount Co. TN. Date of registration was Sept. 1918

I very well believe you may be a descendent of the well-known Casper Cable (Goebel) & Elizabeth Baker. Should this be true, then you & I would be related. Nice to meet you & I hope to have been of some help.

My Father's family were originally from New Orleans/Natchez, Ms.. G-G-G-Grandmother was Virginia Cable (Natchez Indian) her husband Tom Cable, finally the family settled in Tallulah Louisiana. The family names are Dunkins, Cubics, Williams,and Cable. One of the Cable brothers was killed during the Civil War. Anyone out there who may be a relative?

Does anyone know if a descendant from Casper Cable has been able to prove an Oath of Allegiance for his service in the Revolutionary War after he came over to the Colonist side?

I understand about his service as a Hessian soldier, but would like to prove this for membership in DAR for many family members. Many have looked for land grants and have not been able to prove anything substantial.

I have been to where his homesite is across Forge Creek near Rabbit Creek trail. I thought I had a picture of it, but I don't. I am trying to find Kathy Gail Cable who has a birth brother named Tim from Sioux City Iowa.
Tim was adopted. He was born in January 1955.
Kathy Gail Cable tried reaching out to Tim approximately 7 years ago, 2001-2003 timeframe. At that time, the connection did not work out.

I am a decendant from a William Sherman Cable born in Campton Kentucky, August 1865. I show he was married to Lilly Charles. Their daughter was Eula, who was my paternal grandmother. I show his father was Jacob, and his father was Joseph and his father was Casper. I see your threads show a different spouse for William. I have him married to about 1906 and divorced about 1920's. Do you have anything more on him. I see you indicate he died in Wildhorse, when did he leave Kentucky for Oklahoma?

My grandparents' old farm is just a few miles from there in TN; somehow I have not read the message about when the reunion is-- when is it? I am also in touch with Cable cousins who are descendants of Benjamin, Elizabeth, and Conrad, children of Elizabeth and old Kaspar; I will get the word to them, but one is is CA and one in Maine who I doubt will try to make it. The other is in Grainger Co., TN, and he is coming: Rod Law; his grandfather was John P. Cable, a resident of Cades' Cove. I am also in touch with another cousin who is from my line, Sarah (Sally) Cable.
I will also tell her; she lives in the Knoxville area.

Hello-
I will work on trying to get something more definitive for you, but he did receive 250 acres to swear alliegiance to the Colonists; he was with a friend that went with him just about everywere he went, and I will get his name too. They served in Cowpens, SC, then in Randolph County, NC. He married Elizabeth there and I assume his land was also where he ended up at the end of the war. I have access to some family books that may give more information on that. Is there no listing of him in the Colonial Army Rosters?

Jacob Cable, married in Scioto County

I am new to researching my ancestry, and I hope someone can help me.

I have an ancestor, Jacob Cable, who was married to Bethsheba Howels (Powell?) and resided in Scioto County.
One of their children was Malissa (or Melissa) Cable, who married Alexander Lewis.
One of their children was Mervin Lewis, who married Martha Jane Exline, my great-grandmother.

Looking for information:

Henry Cable born 1832 - some census records say PA, some NY.
Married Eveline Fisher, lived in Springfield Twp, Lucas County, Ohio. Died 1909. Children Hiram, Henry, Rebecca, George, Wesley, Mary.

Samuel Cable born 21 Mar 1814, PA - possibly Butler County (per gravestone). Married Roseanne Shepler, children Mary Jane, Catharine, Julia, Elizabeth, Louisa, Harriet. Mary Jane married Matthew Scott and their son William Scott married Rebecca, daughter of Henry Cable. Third counsins?
