I am a descendant of Casper Cable. The thread said you have tangible proof of his service in the revolutionary war with Washington. Your help in sharing this matter would be appreciated. I think it is a great story and would love to be able to verify it.

Thanks,

Kathy

Re: Cable Family

There is alot about Abraham Cable. 1729 - 1805
Here is one story I found He was quite the man, very important. He had a number of children. My family comes from his son Christian Cable.

Source: dtivener@richnet.net , Donna Tivener:
ABRAHAM CABLE (2nd s/o Philip & Maria Brady Cable) was in Stony Creek, prior to summer of 1762. He moved into the area from Germantown about 1760. He settled at the juncture of the two Indian trails, one running north and south to Niagara Falls and Canada; the other going south from Brotherton, to the Indian villages in Tennessee. This crossing at Brotherton was a very important spot in the life of the Indians and later the early settlers. Henry, George and James Brotherton were there when Cable and his large family moved to the "crossing". Abraham was born in Switzerland and married ca. 1752 to Mary (Maria) V. Magdalene in Pennsylvania. He was naturalized in 1762. Cable was a well-read man for his day, he could read and write German, French and English, he was a surveyor and mathematician. He had traveled far and wide among the Indians besides being familiar with the law. History states Abraham was promoted to the rank of Col. in Bedford Co. Pa. in the Rev. War. he was present at the battle of Yorktown. He loaned the
Government a large sum ($50,000.) in gold to assist the financing of Washington's army. This was never repaid, this has been certified in the papers of George Washington, now in keeping of the Government in Washington D.C.

I too am a Cable descendant. You mention Abraham but you didn't show any dates. Since I have 6 Abrahams' I would like to know more info on him and on any of the other family members you mentioned so I can see if I have any of them in my database.

I am so pleased, I knew that we were related as my father and uncle remember her!

I just couldn't work out which of her brothers we were descended from, as I was thrown out by some information I was given which turned out to be false.

Our entire family sat around a laptop on Sunday to try and prove the link, and we finally managed it! It turns out that we are descended from her brother Fredrick William! So pleased to finally prove it :)

Fredrick William is my Great Grandfather.

Cable Family

Abraham Cable was my 5th great grandfather. My line comes from his son Christian Cable. We slowly moved from Penn to Ill to Missouri and then finally to Colorado and my uncle Virgil Cable lived in California. It seems the Cable family has come across America. Are there any of my relatives who know my father Forrest Cable, son of Walter Cable. We once visited Cables in Missouri when I was little. Not sure where some place around Kansas City MO. I am the last of the Cable family here. There are no more sons to carry on the name.

Jenny, I just came across your post. I would also like copies of the pictures. I am related through my great grandmother Rebecca Cable Dugger (married Joseph Oliver Dugger)--Benjamin Dugger Cable ---Benjamin C Cable --Casper Cable. I received some pictures last year of Cable relatives. They are through another family branch that I haven't done much work on. Will be happy to share.
My husband is decended from this family. His ggrandmother was Rose Cable. Her father went by the last name of Cabral. The family story is, they originated in the Azores and moved to Hawaii when a fruit crop in the Azores was bad one year. From Hawaii, they moved to San Francisco and then up to Washington State. Some of the family remained in San Francisco, apparently. I found this story repeated in a book entitled: "Port Townsend - The City That Whisky Built by Thomas W Canfield. It has a picture of Marion Cable on the cover.

Re: Cemetery Headstone Pics - Cades Cove, TN: Cables, et al

Maria, Thank you for enquiring about the cemetery. There are 12 (verified) cemeteries located in Cades Cove and each have deaths of children at early ages.

John Cable (man who seat aside the land for the cemetery), was my g.g.great grandfather. Being as how Cades Cove was remotely situated, doctors were not always available to care for the people, even though some did live there at one time or another. When none lived in the Cove, the families relied on mountain medicine or had to send to Maryville for a doctor. If they had to send for one, it could take several days for him to come, which could be too late. The children were many times brought into the world by midwives and sadly, several did not make it. This doesn't mean the midwife was the reason. The Law infant children (I am the great nephew of them) died at birth from complications. Also, epidemics did visit the Cove, Typhoid and Influenza in particular. Accidents, cold night mountain air and contaminated water sources played a part that resulted in death, as well.

If you have other questions, feel free to contact me at Cablesmill@aol.com and I will do my best to answer. If you have another visit to the Cove planned, or anyone else you know, and would like me to meet you there to pass along some history of the community, I'd be happy to do so (no charge).

Regards,
Rod Law
I would love to have the pictures. My grandmother was a family history buff before it was a popular thing to do and without the help of computers. I have recently begun going through her notes and with the help of ancestry.com I am hooked! My grandmother was always more interested in my grandfather's history than she was her own and the discussions always came around to Casper Cable and Sue Simerly. I can't wait to see the pictures. My e-mail is bertie1313@yahoo.com. Thanks so much!
