My ancestors were 1 of 16 families appointed by the queen of Spain (I want to say) to travel from the Canary Islands to the New World to colonize and set up a church. They ended up in San Antonio, and built what is known today as the San Fernando Cathedral, located in the heart of downtown SA. Learned this from cousin, who lives in Goliad, Texas
