I have access to Samuel Caddells Death Certificate. He died at Glasgows Western Infirmary on 29 March 1912. It shows his parents as John Caddell(deceased) & Mary Jane Cranston(previously Caddell)Maiden Surname Brownlee.
Also his wife as Mary-Ann Montgomery . She registered his death.

Hope this helps
Susan

We may well be related! I have engaged an irish genealogist from Belfast who is trying to find (with difficulty great grandfather (Samuel's) birth details which will make the link with his father John and mother Mary Jane Brownlee.
I live in the south of England and am 60 years old. I am not familiar with Facebook or Yahoo! Do you still use your hotmail account?
My Grandmother, Mary Louise McCarragher was a Caddell. Her father was Samuel Caddell and mother Mary Ann Montgomery. Could it be possible that your father was my grandma's brother?
I know that Samuel and Mary Ann moved to Scotland in the early 1900s with Mary Louise and Kitty her sister. My grandmother came back over to Armagh when she was 18 where she met and married my grandad, George McCarragher, a widower aged 60. I understand that Mary Ann lived in Glasgow during the 1920/30s.

A cousin remembers the names of Gertie and Violet. She thinks that maybe these were the names of my grandma's sisters.

I know my Grandfather immigrated here with his brother Fred and a number of his brothers went to Australia around the same time or maybe later.

Hello Barbara
it was a thrill to read you posting, I'd just about given up hope of hearing from anyone. By the way, my name is Mary, I just used Maggie to sign onto ancestry.com. I'm hitting a brick wall in my research, your family info is a help. My father George was number 13 (I believe) out of 16 preganancies (my poor grandmother!) . The first child was born in 1898, the last one was born in 1924. Not all of them survived to adulthood, one died as a baby, and I think two died at birth. My father is the only one left, he was born in 1919. He was older when he married, my mother is much younger than him. Did your father ever speak of any of his great aunts/uncles or Caddle cousins? John is a problem as I'm not sure where he was born. Ireland or Scotland? Ellen immigrated to the USA in 1862 and was born in Ireland. Have you looked at the 1880 census yet? It lists them all. The address where they lived was 185 Greene Street, NY, NY. I am hitting a brick wall in my research. I need to find out where John was born. anything you can remember, even if you think it's trite, would be appreciated. Hope to hear from you,
Mary
macaddle@aol.com

Hello John
we are second cousins, how do you like that? My father George is Andrew's son. I've been hoping to hear from relatives of Andrew's siblings. I've been doing a lot of research, I found our family in the NY 1880 census. Thomas and Andrew were small children at the time. I've done research in the Jersey City library. Isabelle's name has showed up in the old directories, I have to look thru my notes for the other names that you have mentioned. Our great grandparents were John Caddle and Ellen O'Brien. John was born in 1828, Ellen in 1842. Ellen was born in Ireland, John, according to the 1880 census was born in Ireland. In other family documents I have found, John is listed as having been born in Scotland. Do you know anything about that? Did your grandfather ever speak about his parents? My father knows nothing about his grandparents as they were dead before he was born. I would so like to hear from you, my email address is macaddle@aol.com. Maybe we could compare notes?
Thomas' other siblings were: Delia, Josephine, Maggie

Hi Susan,
Doing some calculations I reckon Samuel Caddle must have been born between 1863 (when his parents were married) and 1878 (when his father died) I have a record of 2 other siblings, Hannah Jane born 1866 and Thomas born 1871. I also have the same problem about the spelling variations of Caddle/ Caddell. Once again thank you very much.
good hunting Sam

Caddle family

My grandparents were Andrew Caddle and Mary Granger. He was born in NY in 1873. She was born (I believe this information to be correct) in 1880, also in NY. They lived in NYC and moved to Jersey City, NJ. They had many children, I'm told my grandmother gave birth to 16. Andrew 1901, Thomas (Buster) ?, William 1903, Margerite ?, John (Jack) 1912, Dorothy 1914, Mary (Mae) 1916, George (my father and only surviving sibling) 1919, Francis 1923, there waa an older son named George who passed away before my father was born. There were two who died young, Leo and Bobby.
I hope to find desendents of my grandparents, I don't know if they had any siblings. Any info will be appreciated.

I believe that I am related to you in some way. I think that my grandfather (deceased) was the John Caddle (born 1912) from Jersey City. My dad who is John Caddle Jr. was born in Jersey City and moved to Keansburg, NJ when he was 9. John Caddle Sr. married Ruth Dixon and they had 3 children, Edith, John (my dad) and Barbara. I would have to ask my dad the name of his grandparents to see if they are the same as yours. If you would like to be in touch with me, please feel free to send an email.
