I am decended from Nancy Jane Cadenhead (who would be my ggggrandmother) who married William Rogers. Any information would be appreciated. This has been a hard line to follow as Nancy (I believe) live quite some time longer than William and with many different family members.

I have found my mother, Frankie Fay Cadenhead...and my two half-brothers (Joe and Jon-Allen) and am learning more about the Cadenhead clan all the time! I am looking for my half-sister Lesia Moose (born about 1957) and Jack Douglas (born about 1970). I will pursue other avenues, but perhaps there is information out there.

John Tyler Cadenhead and his wives, Birmingham, Alabama

There is confusion about this family so I'm going to try to clear up some misconceptions. The confusion stems from John Tyler Cadenhead marrying a mother and her daughter, and having children with each of them.

John Tyler Cadenhead (1 Jan 1875 - 29 July 1940) married about 1903, Mabel Clair Milam (14 Aug 1870 - 12 Aug 1955), divorced from Ernest George Walter Koehler of Dresden, Germany.

Mabel was the daughter of Laura and Robert Milam of Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama.

Mabel married Ernest George Walter Koehler on 11 April 1899 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. On the 1900 Census, Mabel and Ernest were living in Oshkosk, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Daughter Minnie "Ruby" was born after the census was taken.

Their daughter, Minnie Laura A. Koehler was born 31 July 1900 in Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. She would later be known as Ruby Laura Koehler and Ruby Laura Cadenhead.

Mabel and John Tyler Cadenhead gave birth to daughter Lois Cadenhead about 1908-1909 and son John Cadenhead about 1913-1914.

Ruby Koehler appears on the 1910 census as daughter of Mabel Cadenhead, step-daughter of John Tyler Cadenhead. Young Lois Cadenhead also appears with her parents, John and Mabel, and older half-sister, Ruby. John and Mabel are listed as married seven years (his 1st marriage, her second).

On his WWI draft Registration, John Tyler Cadenhead claims his wife is "Rubie Laura Cadenhead" in 1918.

On the 1920 Census, John and Mabel appear as husband and wife, Ruby Cadenhead is listed as "daughter", the other children listed are Lois, 11, John, 6, Bob, 2 years 10 months.

John TylerCadenhead and Mabel Milam must have divorced at some point.

Mabel later married James Curry on 3 June 1922 in Enlsey, Jefferson County, Alabama, according to Alabama marriage reocrds.

On the 1930 Census, the family is listed as Charles Curry, with wife Mabel C., and step-son John Cadenhead. Listed in same household but as a separate family are John T. Cadenhead, 55, wife Rubie, 29, (first married at age 15), sons Robert, 13, Warren, 10, Leland, 6, and daughter Leona, 3 years, 11 months.

John Tyler Cadenhead died 29 July 1940 in Birmingham. Ruby is listed as his wife on his death certificate and in his obituary.

Also listed in his obituary are four sons, John Jr., Robert, Warren, and Leland Cadenhead, and daughters Mrs. A.J. (Lois) Thomason and Leona Cadenhead. Deceased family members aren't listed.

Ruby Laura Koehler Cadenhead died 21 October 1984 in Birmingham. Listed in her obituary are one daughter, Leona Cadenhead White; two sons, Leland and Rev. Robert Cadenhead; two brothers, John Cadenhead and Ernest Koehler William Koehler; and two sisters, Lois Cadenhead Thomason and Thea Koehler Terry. Deceased family members aren't listed.

Mabel Clair Milam died in 1955 as Mabel Clair Curry in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida. Her daughter, Lois Thomason also lived in Tampa.
I believe you are talking about Christian Allen Cadenhead. His father is Van Allen Cadenhead who grew up in Burligame Ca. Burlingame High School Class of 1959, then he went to Pepperdine College and for a time sought an acting career in Hollywood, as "Ty Anders". The mother of Van Allen was Elizabeth, my mom's best friend and was like a second mother to me and the father was Van or "Big Van" as we used to call him. He worked for Waterman Steamship Company in San Francisco. They were from Mobile, Alabama before they moved to the hills above Burlingame. My mother and I went to the same church with Elizabeth and Van Allen. I remember Van having a son named Christian at some point and I believe I met him a few times. In the late 1970's Elizabeth and her son, Van Allen both lived in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area and my mother also moved there. At some point Elizabeth moved to Tennessee to be closer to I believe Christian and we lost track of her. I believe the father of Christian lives on Maui today. Van Allen, the Dad introduced me to 45 record players, Elvis and got a '57 red and white convertible when he graduated from high school. We knew the family very well. The last time I saw Van Allen, the dad was in the early 1980's.

No, but I know my dad has been in touch here and there with his half-brother Bronco...

Nice to meet you, cousin. I have a sister also, Leslie. My dad wrote one of the first earlier posts (like 9 years ago) but I don't think he ever saw any of these replies. It would be great if you could email me some information like birth dates and stuff like that. I've learned more about the Cadenhead side of the family from this thread than I ever knew before. I have a couple of pictures of our grandfather I can email to you.

Who is the other person, Frankie? Amazing info

pcadenhead@gmail.com

I am the daughter of Frankie Fay Cadenhead. I believe she was born in Los Angeles in 1941. I am interested in finding out ANYTHING about her. I was raised (since birth) in Los Angeles by my very wonderful grandmother on my father's side. At 45 years old, my father is still resistant to providing me with any information about her. I've only been able to locate one document that provides me with any clue. Any help would be much appreciated.

Harley was not only close kin but a friend as well. We shared our research for many years. The last 3 years of his life his memory had left him. He did not use a genealogy program and only he understood his system. This left his son out in the cold when trying to figure it all out.

My Cadenhead History now has over 3000 linked persons and 500 pages of print information. I have not looked to see if I have you in it but will do so this PM.

Do you want to be included in my mailing list? When I make new discoveries I always send it out to persons on my list.

Charlie Royall
cnroyall@wcc.net

So sorry to hear of Harley's passing. I always enjoyed our talks and emails about Cadenhead family history. He will be missed.
Cynthia Cadenhead Taylor
