I am researching the lives of the Canadian spinning wheel makers of the turn of the last century in Saint-Hyacinthe, and am looking for descendants of Henri Cadorette, son of wheelmaker Michel Cadorette, born 1896, married 1919 Marie Heloise Claire Lalime. They had two daughters, Marie Therese Madeleine m Dominique Dupont and Marie Marthe Pauline m Clement-Paul Fournier.

I would love to know anything about Henri's father Michel and brother Philias, who ran the wheelmaking business. I believe Henri was the only child of Michel Cadorette who had any children.

Thanks for any leads or information.
Henri Cadorette vs. Henri Cadorette

In looking at ancestry hints for a person in my family tree (Victor Henri Oscar Cadorette son of Michel Cadorette and Celina Simard) I came across several family trees that have this Henri married to the wrong spouse. The Henri Cadorette that married Marie Laura Josephine Jubenville in 1914 is not the son of Michel Cadorette and Celina Simard, he is the son of someone else - this can easily be seen if you look at the marriage record. Henri, son of Michel and Celina, married Marie Heloise Claire Lalime in 1919. I just wanted to warn anyone researching the St Hyacinthe Cadorettes to check the actual records before taking what's in these trees into your own.

Michel Cadorette of St Hyacinthe 1853-1929

I am a member of a group of spinning wheel enthusiasts who are interested in a particular kind of wheel made by a particular group of makers in the years from about 1880 to 1930. One of the makers was Michel Cadorette, of St Hyacinthe, son of Maxime Cadoret and Elisabeth Sevigny, born 1853 in Ste Rosalie, died 1929 in St Hyacinthe, married Celina Simard in St Hyacinthe in 1874. He had a shop on Rue des Cascades near the Yamaska river. He and Celina had many children, of whom two (Cleophas and Philias) became wheelmakers after their father. I have shared ancestry with these gentlemen (Philias and Cleophas were third cousins to my great grandmother) so they are in my family tree. Cleophas died in 1910 at the age of 41; Philias married in 1929 to Aurore Guerin and apparently had no children. I own a spinning wheel bearing his mark.

If anyone reading this is, or knows of, living relatives descended from Michel and Celina, I would love to speak to them privately to find out more about these men who made these spinning wheels, or even see photos of them if any exist.

I am trying to find out any information at all on my grandparents. My mother passed away when I was 17 and I can't seem to find out anything about her parents. His name could be spelled Cadaret and her last name could have been LaValley or LaVallie. I know they were in Newport or N.Troy VT. around 1900-1910. I have been told that he is buried in Newport, VT.

Rosa Bassett

Dear Carol:
Poking around the surname boards and saw your messages. We are descended from Joseph Bassett's (Bessette) brother, Moses. I have a little bit of information on some of the people in your messages. My sources are: 1900 VT census; WorldConnect, cemetary, and family.
Marie Adelaide Rosa Cadorette, b 8 Jan 1860 in Ste-Cecile de Milton, Monteregie, Canada. Father: Pierre Cadorette, b, 1823 and Mother: Adeline Bonnier de La Plante, b 1832. She married Joseph Bessette, 26 Apr 1876 in Roxton Pond, Monteregie, Canada.
The census says they had 3 children, Emma, Nellie and Henry. I talked to Annie Brassor Booth (now dead) and she told me that Emma was adopted by Joseph and Rosa. Her birth date is May 1881, Nellie is July 1885 and Henry is Mar or Nov 1899 (both dates are listed). I don't have a death date for Rosa, but the gravestone says 1929. In the Probate records, Greenfield, MA courthouse is a legal document listing Jeddy Patnode as surviving spouse (no other information) and wife, Clara, deceased on 26 October 1912, and listing her children: Clara M. Rau; Rose S. Peffer; Agnes M. Scully; Frank J. Brassor; Arthur A. Brassor; and William J. Brassor.
Hope this helps. Something to work with in any case. I have not seen original records to verify any of this. It is good to remember that few records are 100% correct and that accounts for the conflicting information. Good Luck.
BJB

Cadorette (Cadoret)

Hello. My name is Paula Ann Cadorette Coley. I am very interested in obtaining more information on my father's family. My father (Joseph Roland Cadorette) was born to Joseph Thomas and Exina Bessette Cadorette. My grandparent's Joseph and Exina had six children: Antionette, Bertha, Cecile, Peter, Joseph, and Margaret. I only recently learned that the original spelling of our surname was Cadoret. There are very few remaining members of my family that I know of and I would love to obtain any and all information possible in order that I could create a family tree with all possible information for my children and grandchildren. We referred to our grandfather and grandmother as Pepere and Memere; which is what our grandchildren call my husband and myself. During a recent visit with my aunt (she is the only remaining child of Joseph and Exina), she advised that she had learned that our surname was originally spelled Cadoret. In fact, she also learned that throughout her life, she always thought her birth name was Margaret, however, only recently learned that her name is in reality Marguerite. Any information that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me at my email address Memerex3@aol.com and please reference the name Cadorette or Cadoret in the subject line so that I don't delete the email in error. Again, thank you very much for any help you can provide. I look forward to hopefully hearing from someone whom I might very well be related to. God Bless. Paula

I am looking for information on my grandparents. My grand father was Phileas Cadorette and I always thought my grandmother's name was Mary LaVallee but found info. on a baptism certificate that says Marie Vallee. Not sure if this is true but have been told that Mary or Marie was born in Winnipeg Canada. This I am not sure of either. I have that Mary LaVallee's parent's names were, George & Lucinne. What I would like to start with is Phileas Cadorette and Marie Vallee.

Do you know of a family website where all us relations could share with each other directly. I belong to one for another line and have not only gained info but morale support. You should consider maintaining one. I'd join! Thanks for the info that you have supplied--will check them out after the holidays. Margaret

CADORET, Eli Samuel

Hi - in searching all of these message boards, I have yet to come across anyone with the same line of Cadorets that I am a decendent from ... my mother is a Cadoret; her father was William George, born in 1897; he had a brother, Joseph Eli, born in 1895; their father was Eli Samuel Cadoret, born in 1856; he married Cora Ella Ackley abt. 1885 in VT. According to the 1900 census in Shrewsbury, VT, where it lists 'where father was born', it says "At Sea" ... which means he was from somewhere ele, probably England [my mother thinks]. If anyone can help figure this out, I would appreciate it greatly. Oh, one more thing, my mother says that Eli Samuel was a twin and his brother's name was also Joseph. Thanx !!!

Another Correction ~ I found out that Eli did not have a twin brother after all. He was the 10th child of 15. Joseph T Cadoret and Mary French were his parents. He married Cora Ella Ackley in Manchester, VT in 1885 and was buried in 1911 in Ludlow, VT. I have traced Joseph T Cadoret's parents as Joseph Cadoret and Mary C <Unknown> m abt 1800-1812 in Canada. If anyone can help in finding further information to trace this family further back, I would appreciate any clues to lead me in the right direction. Thanx in advance ... RWB

Jean Baptiste's father was Alexandre Cadorette, born 1831 and married on July 2, 1865 to Celanise Roireau dite Laliberte. I can't get any farther back on the Cadorette side, but I managed to get much further tracing Celanise's family history. I can send the info to you if you would like.
Hello I'm Donna Cadaret, descendant of 'Cadaret/Cadarette' family from Amherstburg, Ontario who came from Acadia in 1701 - settled there in early 1600's. The family of 1800's was: Joseph Cadaret born 1867, John Cadaret born 1858, Louise Cadaret born 1863 (someone was looking for Louise's details, my great-grandfather, Joseph was her brother). Their parents had died and they were raised by the 'TREMBLAY'(Honora and Gilbert Trembly) family in Amherstburg, Ontario - they later moved to Toronto. I do not know the names of the parents of John, Joseph and Louise Cadaret, do you? Also, after a trip to France this summer - the Duras, Aquitaine region, we found the name to be spelled, 'Cadret' - I think the pronunciation caused people to ad the 'a', 'o', or 'e' to Cadaret. I believe it was probably 'Cadret' as we found in that region of France. Also, they had vineyards, and made 'Rothschild' wine - if that helps. Email me please - thanks.
