I would be shocked if there wasn't a connection! My great great grandfather Martin Keady (1839-1917) lived in the 2400 block of M Street in NW along with a gaggle of other Keady/Cady family. I haven't found his immigration paperwork yet but if I can link him and Patrick coming over about the same time, it would build the case that they might be brothers.

Hi Ted, thanks for your help. As you can probably guess I am completely new to using message board and did not realize that it would be posted in America. I am in England and my grandmother was born in London. I have a copy of the 1911 census with her on as a young girl of 16 which puts her year of birth at 1895, but this has not helped me find a birth certificate. Can you or anyone else help me with this problem. Much appreciated.

A state would help. In some states birth and death certificates didn't become mandatory until the 1920's. The feelings in West Virginia, for example, were that if you were breathing you were alive, if you were not you were not, and a sheet of paper wasn't going to change anything.

Here are all of the girls named "Mary something" in the 1900 census born within 2 years of 1895. There were no Mariannes or Amelias. Do any of them look familiar?

Mary E Cody [Mary E Cady]
Birth: Sep 1894 - Colorado
Residence: Rositer, Custer, Colorado

May Cady [Mary Cady]
Birth: Jun 1894 - District of Columbia
Residence: Washington, Washington, District of Columbia

Mary L Cody [Mary L Cady]
Birth: Mar 1895 - Georgia
Residence: Warrenton, Warren, Georgia

Mary L Cady
Birth: Mar 1895 - Georgia
Residence: Warrenton, Warren, Georgia

Mary E Cody [Mary E Cady]
Birth: Jun 1893 - Georgia
Residence: Warrenton, Warren, Georgia

Mary A Cady
Birth: Nov 1895 - Massachusetts
Residence: Hinsdale, Berkshire, Massachusetts

Mary Cady
Birth: May 1893 - Massachusetts
Residence: Boston Ward 13, Suffolk, Massachusetts

Mary Cady
Birth: Feb 1896 - Massachusetts
Residence: Boston Ward 13, Suffolk, Massachusetts

Mary E Cady
Birth: Oct 1894 - Michigan
Residence: Boardman, Kalkaska, Michigan

Mary Cady
Birth: Feb 1896 - Michigan
Residence: Woodhull, Shiawassee, Michigan

Mary Cody [Mary Cady]
Birth: Jun 1896 - Michigan
Residence: Ypsilanti Ward 3, Washtenaw, Michigan

Mary Cady
Birth: Feb 1897 - Michigan
Residence: Detroit Ward 16, Wayne, Michigan

Mary L Cady
Birth: Nov 1894 - New York
Residence: Auburn Ward 6, Cayuga, New York

Mary F Cady
Birth: Nov 1897 - New York
Residence: Buffalo Ward 24, Erie, New York

Mary N Cady
Birth: Jan 1893 - Ohio
Residence: Toledo Ward 8, Lucas, Ohio

Mary M Cady
Birth: Aug 1894 - Ohio
Residence: Toledo Ward 14, Lucas, Ohio

Mary R Cady Jr.
Birth: Jul 1894 - South Carolina
Residence: Lee, Williamsburg, South Carolina

Mary E Cody [Mary E Cady]
Birth: Jun 1897 - Texas
Residence: Justice Precinct 6, Denton, Texas
The Parents of Benjamin Johnson Cady

The parents have long been thought to be Joseph C Cady and Lucy Cady. I believe Joseph C Cady 176x-1821 and Lucinda Johnson are the parents. As Lucinta *1767-1856, was listed on the Probate records in 1821 and she was living in 1850 with her son Joseph Jr,in Butler Co,OH. BJC lived nearby off the Hamilton Turnpike at the border of Butler Co.
BJC named his second son Joseph Daniel Cady the name of his father and uncle, Joseph Jr named a son Johnson Cady. there are other relations, Daniel (1790), David (?), Naham (1816).
There is also hard evidence from BJC's daughter Polly Martindale's who with her brothers visited family in Cincinnati before migrating to Texas,in 1855.

Now the bad news, where were they from. Lucinda listed born in CT, Joseph was in PA in 1790, Daniel was in NJ in 1775. Their son's listed birth in PA,NY and CT.

Elizabeth Cady wife of Timothy Puffer

Is there an actual record that Elizabeth Cady, the wife of Timothy Puffer,is, in fact, the daughter of Ebenezer Puffer? I realize that many people working on this line have strong circumstantial evidence that this is the case. However, other reseachers indicate different parents for Elizabeth and those of us who are newcomers are left wondering which parents to use. If there are no actual records that Elizabeth is, in fact, the daughter of Ebenezer, (and I have not been able to find any such records), than those of us who are more cautious in assigning parentage will be forced to leave this line at a dead end. This would be most unfortunate, since it is obvious that Elizabeth is descended from Nicolas Cady (b. 1627) in Suffolk, England and it would be very nice to have the intermediate threads.

Jill

Ezekial Cady had an uncle Stoddard Brimfield Cady who served in MA during the Revolutionary War. I don't know if Ezekial's father Charles served. Anyway, you are certainly invited to attend the SAR ceremony in Chatham , NY. Though the Cady's being honored in NY are not in your family line, they are obviously cousins with Ezekial!

The SAR grave marking ceremony is planned for May 2012. I can e-mail you a flyer with more details as they become available.

Craig Ferguson

Ezekiel served in that War for 12 days, along with Adeline's brother, George C. Carley, their father, Albert A. Carley. An uncle also served in that battle. A request for Bounty Land filed by Ezekiel Cady, dated 20 April 1855, attested to by George Carley and Joshua Abbott was denied as no proof of service but the later records do contain the name.
Col. Stoddard did not keep records of his company's service and many lost out on their Bountys because of that.

Allan Clyde CADY b.22 Sep 1884 MN; d. Mar 1916

Gascoyne Gazette, 22 Mar 1916, p 4 col 4

The sad tragedy which took from our midst one well known friend, Clyde Cady, has caused a deep gloom throughout this vicinity. Everyone who knew him will miss his smiling countenance and congenial disposition. His family has the sympathy of the entire community.
*****
Gascoyne Gazette, 22 Mar 1916, p 5, col 3

Sad Death of Clyde Cady

It becomes our sad duty this week to chronicle the untimely taking away of one of Gascoyne's most highly respected citizens, Allan Clyde Cady.

Having taken his wife to the home of her parents near Cadyville, S. D., last Friday, he was returning to Gascoyne when his auto became stuck in the mud. Mr. Cady then went back to the Cavin home for a horse with which to extricate the auto. In passing out of the yard, thru a gateway, the horse was seen to plunge and fall, throwing Mr. Cady violently to the ground and upon investigation he was found to be unconscious, remaining in that condition until about 3 o'clock Saturday morning when he passed away. Altho three doctors were called and an operation was performed upon the skull, their efforts were of no avail.

It was believed that the horse caught his foot in the gate, which caused him to fall, thus throwing his rider.

The body was brought up to Gascoyne Saturday to the saddened home, which he had left a few days previous so full of life and with all the bright prospects that a young married couple, with a cozy new home, usually have.

Allan Clyde Cady was born at Maple Ridge, Minnesota, on Sept. 22, 1884, being nearly 31 years and 6 months old at the time of his death. He was married the 30th of November, 1915, to Miss Sarah Cavin, of Cadyville, S. D. who with his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. A. D. Cady, Sr. two brothers, Arthur and Leroy of this place and other relatives, survive to mourn his loss.

The funeral was held at Scranton on Tuesday a.m., at 10 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. Father Belch of Bowman. Remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery at Scranton. Short services were held at the home here at 8 o'clock. A choir of five voices rendered the music, namely, Mr. and Mrs. Hert Perison, Mrs. L. V. Skoglund, Jessie Wescher and Link Fischbein. The Bazette extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and relatives.
******
Gascoyne Gazette, 29 Mar 1916, p 5, col 1

In their write up of the recent death of Clyde Cady, the Bowman County Pioneer, published at Bowman, has the following to say of Gascoyne:

Gascoyne is one of the liveliest and most enterprising villages in the country, and this man who has been so suddenly taken away had a large part in making it so. He will be greatly missed in that part of the county.
I found my copy of Ellen Larned's History of Windham County, and read thru the section on on the Battle of Bunker Hill. Hundreds of men from Windham County, and esp. Pomfret went to Boston to help with the defense in June 1775. So it is possible that Nathan Cady did go. Larned lists about 3 officers from each regiment or company, but not the hundreds of privates. Larned also did not mention Washington's Roll of Honor. The section is in Larned's Volume II, pages 137-159.

Hello. I have found a paper dictated by my grandmother, ELIZABETH GILLETT-HAMILTON (her parents were MARY JANE CADY and ISAAC GILLETT).
This is the notation: "Mother and Father of MARY JANE CADY

Barbara Mary Gillett Cady
Capt. William Cady

Their Family:
Sara had one son, James Wilson.
Mary Jane, who was my grandmother.
MERRITT had one Girl.
Walter Died in the CIVIL WAR.
Henretta (possibly a misspelling for Henrietta?) had one girl Ellen or Ella.
Joseph had 7 Children:
Edward husband of Lottie (Charlotte Cady) father of Gladys/Howard/and Edward.
Carolyn.
MERRITT father of Bud Cady, Ruth Cady's husband and son.
Florence.
Henretta.
William.
George. "

This is the end of that list dictated by my grandmother Hamilton. Apparently Grandma couldn't remember the names of ALL of the Childrens' children, unfortunately.

We had a MARGARET FOX in the family and I'm trying to remember if she was previously a CADY. Maybe I'll find her history on Ancestry. com

Hopefully this is of some use to you.
I am gathering more on the family tree.
Bletz6 has gathered a lot, by the way.
Oh, and the BUD CADY, son of MERRIT & RUTH, is MY GODFATHER.

Also, we have an ancestor named JENNY WHITE (can't remember her parents' names at the moment.)

Good luck.

Is there some original source that DAR has on microfilm?

I am curious because there is a missing first name of a Whitmore in Killingly records. I'd like to see if the missing name could be interpreted.

Naomi Goring

I am again doing some research in Hamilton Co.,OH. A couple of thoughts. 1. Robert had to have been born before 1820, if he served in the Civil War in 1861. There was an age limit to consider. 2. There were Cady's this area who seemed to be related, up to 1830. Naham Cady was there after the Civil War. I am not sure if your Robert is related as Naham's parents were from NY and PA. If Roberts parents were from VA, he was likely from a different Cady line. Possibly, of Scotch-Irish or Anglican parents.

Thanks for the information. Some of it I was aware of and some of it is new. I think that Mary and Sam came with her son and his family to Oregon and very likely could have come there via Kansas. Her grand daughter, Ada Tompkins, my grandmother, told a story of her family coming west with a wagon train but I think that is a tale. I will get a death certificate and maybe that will give me a little more information.
Thank you so much for your reply.
Lynda

Hi Steve
Willaim Cady was my Great granduncle. He died in California after leaving Arizona. His grandson (Willaim Cady III) lives in Shevport Louisiana but may have moved to Grand Lake in SW Louisiana by now. I was in McNary LA. yesterday and went and saw some interesting stuff. There was a road there named Cady Rd. Unfortunately the place i went to was closed and i didn't find out much at all. My great grand father... Ross Cady, picked up and moved his entire family to Arizona for a short period to run the steam locomotive for uncle Will. If you get this and would like to communicate my email address is fireman1953@hotmail.com I would be glad to share what i have.
Bruce Fontenot
