Hi! I haven't been on here for years, but I was alerted by email of your reply. Martha Ann Shuck's son Poleman Wesley Cage is my GG Grandfather. He traveled from Dent County Missouri to Alberta Canada to farm (most of us still live here in Alberta).
We also have heard the same stories about Martha being Cherokee! There has to be something to this story if all branches of the family in the US and Canada have the SAME story. Unfortunatly we don't know anything besides just that. There are tales of her (and siblings) being left on the Trail Of Tears and adopted by a white family, but until I see some proof of this, I can't believe it without a doubt. I think it's so neat that we all have the same mystery in our branches of the family tree...there just HAS to be some way to find some concrete evidence. Do you have any suggestions? I will be as helpful as I can if you need me to do anything! Since I was a little girl I was always so intrigued by the 'Indian Lady' in Grandma's photo album. I'd like to exchange email addresses, but I'm not sure how to do so without printing it on here for everyone to see :)
